  1. Oh, lol that post isn't there anymore. I understand now. I was looking at his real post and wondering what criteria you were using.
  2. Sounds like a great concept. Unfortunately, I have too little time as it is.
  3. That is true. With Greek it's there are fewer things left open for interpretation and I suppose I can appreciate that.
  4. I wish I could console you. I really wish I could, but I love Latin and I hate Greek...Years into it, I still hate it. Your hatred won't go away or at least it hasn't for me. Good luck and remember: persevere! That's the only way to make it through the pain of that terrible language.
  5. At this point, I think you're pretty much forced to just go with it on the Psych/Business end of the equation. If your program is interdisciplinary, then it shouldn't be a problem really. I wish I could see my LOR's, but you're statements make me a little more hesitant than I was previously. I'm a pretty shy guy and I think I might be slightly embarassed when presented with an overinflated recommendation, but that's just me.
  6. LateAntique, Just curious, but what criteria are you using to make this assertion? Just so I can further understand what results in getting into elite programs...
  7. You are, yet again, a wonderful help in trying to flush out my future plans! I really appreciate it!
  8. Glad to see the post made it into the "notices" section!
  9. Again, thanks for your information. If I wanted to pursue a PhD in, say, early christianity, as opposed to a ThD, would I pick up the MA along the way and would any coursework be already taken care of by virtue of already possessing a Mdiv? I am just kind of weighing my options for a doctorate at the moment, somewhat prematurely.
  10. Thanks for your advice. HDS is already at the top of my list for MDiv program and this gives me yet another reason to favor them. However, I'm still curious as to whether or not there's any precedent for someone to get an MA before their MDiv. Should I still apply to a few programs for an MA and weigh my choices later?
  11. I'm facing a little dilemma at the moment. I have a real interest in Early Christianity from a historical/literary perspective. However, I also really want to do Theology and to be an ordained minister as well. Is there any precedent for getting both degrees? Would this help me have a foot in the door both spiritually and academically? I'm truly interested in living in both worlds. What order should I get the degrees in? Should I apply to both programs at the same time and pick and choose after I get my acceptances?
  12. Looks like we're getting a lot of troubleshooting done! Good to see! I'd have to agree that the status feature is pretty awesome!
  13. I'm a classics minor, so I guess I don't count. I visit the forum from time to time, but my major is Religious Studies; so, that's where I tend to haunt. Anyway, I wish you luck with your search for your fellow Classicists!
  14. I can only answer a tiny part of your question. From what I understand, the programs you are interested in are also interested in your non-traditional status. In fact, it might turn into a boon rather than a burden! I wish you the best of luck and can promise that there are people on this forum who can give you all the answers you seek (well, about the application process anyway lol)
  15. Seems like there's varying opinions, mostly stemming from the fact that the system will take a little while to learn. Just give it time and I bet most people will really like the new layou!
  16. Exactly! It makes taking the test pretty darn difficult!
  17. I agree completely! The old format was definitely functional with its own share of character, but this one just has many more possibilities and looks plain awesome!
  18. I'm not sure if the written GRE will be easier, but I can tell you that it might seem easier. I, for one, have a difficult time concentrating when dealing with computer test taking and tend to do much better with paper copies. (It has to be something about actually feeling the paper on my fingertips. I mean, I feel the same way about reading books. I can't deal with all those Kindle thingies, I need the paper copies of my lit.) However, I would advise you to operate on a two-pronged approach and attempt to retake the GRE but have your application ready to go with your current GRE scores and add the new scores if they come in promptly. Please don't stress yourself out too much. Although some programs use the GRE as a cutoff marker, that's not what it was made for and some programs only nominally review the GRE portion of your application. If other parts of your application are outstanding, then I wouldn't worry too much about it! Good luck!
  19. So, what do you think about the new forum layout? I happen to love it!
  20. I've been advised to avoid this tactic because it makes you seem like you're unsure of what you want to commit to study. If you are unsure, they surely don't need to know it. So, I suppose you need to fake it 'til you make it in certain cases!
  21. Deep Springs College sounds like the scariest thing ever.
  22. And Bart Ehrman has been on Colbert, so we know he's legit. Jk, but really, he would make all the difference to me.
  23. I'll be applying to HDS, YDS, Emory, Duke, Wake, Boston Theological next year.
  24. While applicable to other fields, as far as I have heard from all my advisors at the undergraduate level, seeking out an advisor or making extensive contact with professors at your program is not something that is common practice. Where are you applying btw? Good luck with your applications, CBF+Pwn
