  1. Hey, more power to ya. I'm interested in picking up Syriac somewhere along the way.
  2. Woah, I didn't even know it was an option to pursue Syriac before Hebrew.
  3. I lol'd at both of your examples of an address. Just thought you'd like to know.
  4. While he could have been much more polite, his response isn't all that rare unfortunately.
  5. You won't see me laughing. Your credentials are spot on.
  6. That's quite impressive...
  7. Thanks for the input, just trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.
  8. That's helpful. As always, I appreciate your speedy, effective response.
  9. I'm glad you feel that way lol. Yeah, I really enjoy Medieval Latin as opposed to Classical Latin. I don't know, it just feels like it has more character; it really demonstrates the evolution of a language.
  10. I'm just curious but how many letter writers should I have for my program. I have two of my Religious Studies professors that I am on extremely good terms with lined up. Likewise, I have one of my Classics professors ready to write for me. All these professors will be able to write glowing recommendations for me, having taken many of their classes. However, I feel like I should have another Religious Studies professor in line to write a recommendation. Is it a good idea to have a profession outside of my major write a letter? Will it even matter?
  11. Well, although I feel like a major slacker, here it goes: Latin - 3 years (Medieval especially) Greek - 1 year (ugh)
  12. Goodness, I couldn't give mine up. I mean, my pets keep me going through the rough times.
  13. I'm pretty sure that it's almost assumed that you will waive your rights. Besides, I wouldn't want to know really.
  14. Hardcopies are just so much better than online systems. But hey, I enjoy the feel of paper on my fingertips, probably why Kindle hasn't been that big of a hit with me lol.
  15. Well, I need an MDiv to pursue minsitry...my PhD will be under further review now lol.
  16. These two articles have pretty much depressed me, lol.
  17. I'd say we're all prone to bouts of inordinate uncertainty and undeserved certainty. Somewhere in the middle is probably the healthy way to be, but who cares about being healthy
  18. Looks like it was a pretty active month for the forum.
  19. That's not just bad, that's abysmal.
  20. What an interesting profile. I just happen to go to school in Appalachia as well. My dept. has about 15 students in a 25,000 person school...talk about small.

  21. I believe the man may have, with his chilling review, told you all you need to know.
  22. I can give you some general tips: (1) Summas are always best when dealing with competitive programs. It seems obvious, but keep your grades up. (2) Your LoR need to be top-notch, coming from professors who know you well and are willing to put their professional reputation on the line. That being said, try to make sure your recommenders have some sort of reputation in their field. The more well-known they are, the better. (3) Try to show some initiative outside of school, pursuing your interests without being forced to. (4) Before you start dealing with your target school's faculty, read some of their major works (5) Fit is really important; apply where you will be at home.
  23. Looks like Chicago to me.
  24. I think it really depends who you're working with. I've been asked to use Chicago and APA more oft than not.
