  1. Hi to the above! I'm starting this fall and I'm BEYOND excited. Dream school.
  2. Right? And the most recent posts talking about crippling debt in the future....I completely understand that, and it does worry me. But I won't let it stop me from bettering myself now. Live in the moment! You will find solutions, but you only live once so do what you want.
  3. Well Fordham was weird and said they are revitalizing their MA program in public communications so they will not be admitting anyone for this year. Everyone's applications will be suspended. Then there's the New School for Social Research which just emailed me saying admissions decisions will be sent the week of March 15th. But they are honest about not having much funding to offer to students. Also the program I applied to is Liberal Studies, which is so general and seems more of like something you do for mental stimulation only--not to progress career-wise. So I think I might just accept my offer to NYU now. YAY
  4. I'm not going for a PhD yet (going for Masters) but I just wanted to say that I completely agree with you. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that. I feel like a lot of people are concerned about financial obstacles to graduate school, but I'm ready to take on as many loans as I need to. This is what I want to do and education is priceless. Knowledge is priceless. It will be worth it in the end, no matter how much debt you'll be in. There are ways of figuring out payments. I just look at it as a future monthly bill.
  5. You definitely are!!!!!!! That's what my first email said. Then came the official GSAS email the next morning. Don't worry!
  6. Only been accepted to one so far....waiting on the rest. BUT the acceptance was for my top choice.
  7. Ahh congrats to you all in Studio 20!!!!! So exciting!
  8. Mine said recommended too! "I am writing with great pleasure to tell you that we have recommended to the NYU Arts and Science Graduate School that you be accepted for admission at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, in the magazine concentration. You will be receiving an email from the Graduate School within two weeks." But on the phone the director had told me I have been accepted, so I wasn't concerned with the word "recommended" although it sounded a little scary. Lol I'm doing a masters, how about yourself?
  9. Haha, I know what you mean! So frustrating. However, you will be accepted. Are you receiving a letter in the mail? That could take some time. I got a phone call and then email from the program director saying I have been accepted, but the official notice from the graduate school was to come 'within 2 weeks.' I ended up getting the email the next day. So 2 weeks might be the time it takes to typically get from the program to the graduate school? I'd still be jumping around excited & sharing the news though if I were you! Congrats!
  10. Thank you! That's a good point.....the thing is though, NYU is offering me a pretty good scholarship. I know that The New School isn't big on funding....they were even honest about it during a grad school information session. They don't have much money to give out. As for Fordham, I'm not too interested in going because of its location & also it's a public communications degree as opposed to journalism (which I'm getting at NYU).
  11. It was official from the graduate school! Thanks to the replies above!! I'm excited. Guess you're right....couldn't hurt since I already know that's where I want to go!
  12. I received a notice of admission to my top school. My question is..........I know that I want to attend this school over the other 2 I applied to (which I haven't heard back from yet). Although I have until April 15th to notify them of my decision, how soon would be appropriate to tell them if I already know I want to accept their offer? Is there a period that seems too soon (i.e. 2-3 days after notice)? Should I wait a week?
  13. I received a phone call yesterday from the program director saying I have been accepted. That was followed by an email from her regarding the acceptance to the program & scholarship information, and today I received the official acceptance from the graduate school itself.
  14. Hello! Yes.....first I received a phone call from Meryl, then a few hours later I received the email from her that also included scholarship information. I got an email from the GSAS this morning.
  15. That's frustrating! It must have just been the magazine writing that heard back today. My undergrad gpa was 3.68 (majored in communications), got average GRE scores, really strong recommendations.
  16. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! :DMagazine writing! You?
  17. I just received a call saying I have been accepted & I'm receiving a scholarship!!!!!!!!! I've never been more excited....this has been my dream school since I was a teenager!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone currently attending or waiting to hear back? Is this program pretty on par with Columbia's J school? Any insights would be great!

  21. Do I take notes during the class like a student??
  22. Thank you!!!!
  23. I'm sitting in on a journalism class tonight at NYU.....the department chair that had emailed me saying she was impressed by my application invited me to do so and it has finally been arranged. What I'm wondering is if I'll be expected to speak with the professor before/after the class? Are they going to sneak in an interview of some sort?? As far as I know, they just arranged for me to sit in......I don't even know if I'll be seeing the lady that contacted me. Any thoughts?
  24. "By way of introduction, I am the director of the magazine writing program and I’m writing to tell you how impressed I am by your application. Your essay was well-written and compelling. At this stage I am reaching out to the most promising candidates to say that I would be happy to speak with you and answer questions about the magazine program. yadda yadda yadda, ends with ....' I look forward to speaking with you and appreciate your interest."" I received this email about 10 days after I submitted my application. I called her and spoke with her, asking some questions, but my question to you all is.....would you consider this an unofficial acceptance? Or not quite. Can I get excited yet??? Also she invited me to visit the campus and I'm actually sitting in on a class today!!! So excited.
