Why not just withdraw your application now? Or are you waiting to see if you made the cut? Either way, I hope you turn them down fast to help those on the waitlist...
-
Cheer up! You've still got a lot of applications out there. Maybe they knew they weren't the perfect place for you?
-
Ah ollie, that totally makes sense. I assume the natural resources is SNRE at Michigan? Good luck with your three! I hope they turn out well for you. So your interests are in environmental justice?
-
You only applied to two schools? Now that takes guts!

2008 Anthro PhD Applicants
rising_star replied to nailbitingnmiserable's topic in Anthropology Forum
Hey blakkbug, what's the combined Geog & Anthro dept at LSU like? Did you have a good experience doing your master's there? -
I think there may be over in the Ithaca topic of the City Guide. There's a user named "Cornell07" you may want to contact...
-
lol, me too. I stick mostly to craig's list though my ideal situation is probably a condo within walking distance of campus and another grad student (outside the dept or at least in a different subfield) to share it with.

i'm not really keeping mum. you could check the survey results and find out pretty much exactly where i've heard from. but the bottom line is that i haven't received funding from anywhere officially so, as far as i'm concerned, i'm not going anywhere. i may just move back home and teach high school English, which was the only class that rivaled math in its awfulness for me when I was in high school.

I'm thinking that anthropology and sociology could both use their own subforums. Sociology hasn't been active but anthropology certainly has!

Plan B: What to do when rejected EVERYWHERE?
rising_star replied to nurye27's topic in Waiting it Out
What do you think went wrong with your personal statement? I'm curious if you could elaborate on the presentation issues applicants face because I think it could help a lot of people here. Sidenote: What do you teach and to what ages? I've always thought about getting a teaching certificate and teaching high school English. -
A lot depends. For instance, our health insurance at my current school is like $1300/yr and the deductible is probably in the range of $1000 but you can receive treatment and pick up prescriptions and receive a discount. So I've never even come close to the deductible but I also haven't had a lot of out of pocket expenses. Lots of people I know are on 1-2 prescriptions and spend less than $40/month on both... So it can be affordable. A lot depends on where you can receive care and how much care is. Oh, and I wouldn't say my health insurance now is good but it is adequate.

The Official "Make Everyone Else Jealous" Thread
rising_star replied to Minnesotan's topic in Waiting it Out
Chin up, you'll hear soon! -
What if I know I might need to defer, but not for sure?
rising_star replied to Jessica29's topic in Applications
They're going to want to know by April 15 what your intentions are. And deferring doesn't guarantee that your funding package will still be available when you return. -
Just a suggestion to those posting: there is a History of Art MA/PhD 2008 thread as well. A lot of your questions/comments about specific schools may be addressed there. If there's no objection, I'd suggest moving the conversation about this year's admissions over there (unless of course Art History and History of Art are two different things).

Reputations... UCSD for Literature
rising_star replied to zaza's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Just a FYI, unless you're posting about the literature program, all of these comments about where to live in San Diego belong over in the City Guide section of the board. Thanks! -
When I click on the subforums, it doesn't actually display anything... Just the announcements. FWIW, this project may ultimately prove TOO difficult since there are poli sci threads about specific schools as well as general threads...
-
hahaha, a girl's gotta have some secrets! But acceptances and rejections have both been arriving in my inbox.
-
Why not contact individual schools and ask if they'll accept/review updated transcripts? No sense in sending them if your application has already undergone review...

I think biology might be a life science rather than a physical science...

Which MSU is this? And what are those other abbreviations you list?

while i'm (we're) waiting, give me your opinion please.

Go for it! Good luck! -
Plan B: What to do when rejected EVERYWHERE?
rising_star replied to nurye27's topic in Waiting it Out
My Plan B is to do an alternate certification program and become a social studies or language arts teacher, likely in Georgia or Florida. -
The only calculators I carry are the built into my laptop and cellphone. I don't do numbers. I interview people.
-
Oh, you guys will love this. I actually locked a "History Admissions 2008" post over in the social sciences forum and told the poster to look for the active history threads in the humanities! You can still click over to the locked post if you want.

Definitely improved. I really like the blue, btw. The font size is a bit small so I always end up enlarging it in the tab.
