  1. I share the same feelings. Luckily my wife is successful and can support me while I limp along lol. GRE scores should be moot if you hold a Master's degree. It is a shame that it is being used as the sole deciding factor for many schools. I spent a lot of money for them to review my application, and for it to get tossed out before they even read my LORs is insane. What am I paying for?! Why am I wasting my recommenders time? Back to the drawing board (or testing center...)
  2. I really appreciate that! Yeah, not looking forward to the hundreds of dollars towards another GRE and the hundreds of dollars towards another round of applications. I don't know why schools don't waive the GRE score for people with grad degrees. Seems like an antiquated system.
  3. Feeling pretty deflated. Rejected from my top schools because of my GRE score. I used the same score that I used to get my Master's and figured that by having a Master's I wouldn't need to prove I was capable of graduate-level work with a standardized test. I was wrong. Holding out hope for a couple of programs but have received 0 interviews. Not looking forward to asking my recommenders, yet again, to write me LORs
  4. Gotcha! I applied social, so maybe the process is different? Just holding out hope as the rejection letters start flowing
  5. Rejected from USF CNS Program. Official, through email. This one stings...
  6. It may even be your GRE coupled with lack of experience. I have 10 publications spanning 5 years, a Masters in Psychology, and a 150/153/4.5 GRE. I haven't heard a peep from any programs.
  7. For real! Why are they advertising for a program that I already applied to? Like, you got my attention already...now let me in!!
  8. I am in a similar predicament. My scores are 150/153/4.5. I have a Masters (3.64 final) and 10 publications, as well as having worked in 5 labs over 8 years. I haven't heard a peep from a single program, and I am convinced it is my GRE that's holding me back. I am already planning on retaking it for the next round. At the end of the day, we know that many programs use the GRE to determine if an application should even be formally reviewed.
  9. That feeling when you get an email from a school and it's just an advertisement... Status: Titillated. Disappointed.
  10. Yep! Nothing official on my end either. Kind of assuming that there's a few that I absolutely didn't get into...but I'm holding out hope for a few of them too. I wish there websites weren't such trash and that they showed interview dates, deadlines, and accurate contact information.
  11. Haven't heard a peep from anyone. The only school on my list that I know sent out invites is FSU, and I didn't get (as expected). Feeling a little beat down at this point. Waiting another year seems horrible.
  12. Relatable. I am studying for my Personal Training cert as we speak. The tragedy of having anything but a PhD in the field of psychology....under qualified to do almost anything in the field of psychology.
  13. That's kind of what I am figuring. I didn't decide to apply until October, so I had no time to study and retake the GRE. I am just hoping that I get into any program so I don't have to review Algebra again. I'd rather stay sharp on stats. I am assuming I'll hear something next week from my schools. After that, I can probably just assume that a PhD isn't in the cards this year.
  14. It blows me away that people in the field of psychology are totally okay relying on a single standardized test to determine if a person is capable of attaining a PhD. It's a racket.
  15. I feel you! I haven't heard a peep from any schools. I have a Masters, 10 publications, and a decent GPA. BUT my GRE scores are below average. I took it in 2014 and got 150/153/4.5 and figured it didn't matter now considering I've already proven I can handle graduate work....by having a graduate degree. The radio silence from my schools has me concerned that I underestimated the admissions team...or maybe gave them too much credit for using the "whole person" concept.
  16. That's what it's there for! I made it red because that was the closest color to the "schools color" lol! Although, it's probably me subconsciously assuming that I won't get it. Your username is super relatable haha! But, no, I haven't heard from them yet. From previous posters, it looks like the interview is 1/30 - 2/2? So there's still hope! Huzzah! So there's still hope! haven't heard from any of my schools.
  17. Haven't seen a topic on this, since it's a relatively small field. I have only applied to the one Legal Psych program in my state, but it's my top choice. Anyone know of the process for these programs? Since they're small, do they do formal interviews?
  18. Especially when you are paying an application fee, transcripts fee, and test score fee. The LEAST they can do is have some undergrad intern in the Psych Office send an automated email.
  19. I have applied to 7 schools and haven't heard a peep from any. One of mine was FIU. When did you hear from them?
  20. Woops! My apologies! I clicked on recent posts and didn't notice this was a sociology-specific forum.
  21. Wow, that's news to me! Last time I applied to PhD programs was 2014. Back then I heard a lot of people having to do multi-day in-person interviews. A little bit of a relief, so thank you! BTW I'm applying to primarily Social Psychology programs, not sociology, although I feel the admission process for the two are pretty similar. Totally relieved to hear this. I'm applying to Social Psychology programs, but I'm sure the info is the same. I am honestly relieved to know that I won't be driving around my state doing in-person interviews. I heard that the admission selection letters arrive in April, so I suppose I will have to wait until then. Thank you!
  22. Anyone ever been offered admission without an interview? I am getting anxious...I gave up a slot to go to Air Force Officer Training so that I could pursue my PhD with autonomy, so I have a lot riding on this.
  23. First off, I am very new to this site! I am wanting to apply to Edinburgh for the MSc in Research Psychology. I am nervous about acceptance because my GPA may only be a 3.2 in October when I apply for the Fall 2014 year. I am published (with an Edinburgh PhD graduate), working on a second publication (with the same professor), doing field research in Cognitive Neuroscience for another professor this summer, and have been working at a research and evaluation center at the University of North Florida for over a year. The problem was my freshman year (cliche, I know) but I entered into my Sophmore year with a 2.74 and currently hold a 3.13 (proudly!). I have A's in all of my Psych Research and Experimental courses, as well as my statistics courses. I am the president of Psi Chi at my university, and am heavily involved with other psychological organizations on campus. What do you guys think my chances are??? I do a ton of research and paper writing. I am very extracurricular. I'm hoping that will outweigh my inadequate GPA!
