The ASHA requirements have recently changed. Your physical science must be physics or chemistry. Your life science must be a human bio, anatomy/phisiology, or animal biology. Check oUT the ASHA website to be sure what classes you need. You may still get into a program, but if you don't have a suitable science you'll have to take it during your grad program so you can become asha certified. This happened to me.

When do students normally start searching for cfy positions? Do they normally begin right after graduatio?

DO you think it's necessary to study a lot and review past notes prior to starting grad school? 3. What was the biggest adjustment going from undergrad to grad 4. At your school, were supervisors helpful in aiding you in figuring out lesson plan ideas for clients? 5. This might be silly but..Did you ever have any free time in grad school or were you basically always studying or preparing? 6. What was the most stressful part of beginning grad school?

What a great and helpful post for future applicants! I see a few people concerned with the gre so I would like to add in my two cents for any future applicants who is reading this thinking "I'm a terrible test taker and I don't know if I can't get into grad school because of the GRE." I am here to tell you it is most certainly possible. I didn't hit the 50% mark on the quantitative or verbal (I did get a 4.5 on the writing which is decent) and I got into 5 awesome schools- one of which included my top choice. It truly depends on the school. Mediocre GRE scores are not an end all be all especially if you have a rather high GPA (I had a 3.93). Im not saying don't study, because you should and aim for at least 300. I am just saying, don't be like me and cry all the time because you think your GRE scores will prevent you from getting in anywhere. So not the case if you are otherwise an outstanding applicant. I wished I had someone from this perspective giving advice last year! So, please study and do you best. But if your scores are not outstanding, make a huge effort to show you WILL be an excellent grad student despite a stupid GRE score that means nothing.

Does anyone have any comments regarding a PC vs MAC? Which type are you all bringing to grad school? I'm in the market for a new laptop (currently own a dell) and am not sure. I've seen students have issues with stuff that's not Mac compatible but soo many students still have them. Perhaps I should mention that I already own an iPad.

@nata25 I've been told that emu does not send out waitlist notifications. So you may be on there! I know a lot of people have declined the offer (including myself) so hopefully you'll hear something around April 15:)

It also could be a "We dont know about you yet" email. I called Michigan State asking what my status is and she said that there is no wait list yet and the people who have not heard anything yet are simply individuals whom the adcom has not decided about yet. Either way, you're still in the running.

Congratulations!!! I've also been rooting for you )) if you end up at gvsu, you will love west michigan. Not quite as warm as Cali but an overall great place to live.

Yes EMU will probably be the last school you hear from. It's likely due to the amount of applicants they get (according to edfind they got almost 500 last year or something) the only thing I really know about it is that it's two semesters longer than most programs.

One of my professors also suggested a "flip" video camera or something similar. They are useful for obtaining speech and language samples for people who may be non verbal so you can assess their non verbal communicative abilities.

I visited WMU and I loved it. The faculty were welcoming, the facilities were impressive, and I've been told from a student in the program that the clinic sees such a wide variety of comm disorders so the exposure and experience is great. Good luck in making your decision.

Hi! Wayne state sends their acceptances out in waves. Those accepted today were their "top applicants". Then I suppose after a few decline the acceptance they will send out more! Don't fret yet . If you do the skype interview with gvsu do you know have to do the one hour writing task then? (Just curious)

Besides getting asked to interview at a few schools, I got my first "notice." Waitlisted at Miami university of Ohio. While this was my last choice due to distance, it makes me bummed/pessimistic regarding my other schools. Oh well.

@autismadvocate I'm pretty sure you will get in anywhere you want to and probably everywhere you applied. Your stats are among the best I've seen. Save the worrying for those with the poopy gre scores like me haha

Nice topic. My hope is to get an acceptance SOMEWHERE My dream is to go to either grand valley state university or western michigan university. My guess I might get into one school I don't really want or wait listed to a few (bad gre scores)

Hi! My university, Wayne state university, offers a chem class geared towards non science majors. That's what I took and it was online.

It clearly depends on the school. Some of the schools I've applied to won't even consider you unless you got at least a 3.5 on the writing. And a lot of people I know have been advised to just send the score with the highest writing score. But clearly for others that have posted they don't get that impression from the schools they're applying to. Personally, I'm hoping my gre scores won't hold me back (150v 148q 4.5aw) I have a high gpa and good experiences so hopefully I'll still get in somewhere.

Is anyone else confused about the academic update? My Csdcas app says "AU submitted" and they got my fall grades 12/26... Today is the deadline for most of my schools (they're "orange" coded schools). Can anyone tell me if my application is going to still be considered even though they have all my other grades except fall 2013? I tried calling Csdcas but the person I spoke to wasn't very helpful and didn't really answer my question.

Hey everyone! In need of some advice... I am super concerned about my GRE scores. I took it twice and feel like a third time would have been a waste seeing as standarized tests just never go over well for me. So the first time I got a 150V 148Q and 4.5AW The second time I got 154V 145Q and 4AW As of now, I have only sent the first set of scores because of the terrible Q score and the fact that I went down in writing. Should I send the second anyway? Do I even have a shot with these scores? Luckily I have a 3.93 GPA, tons of experience with individuals with special needs, working with kids and adults, and over 50 observation hours, etc. (I wont bore you with all that I've done). I am applying to only schools in Michigan and some in Ohio.. I really appreciate anyone's response. Good luck to all
