  1. Why these schools specifically? their funding situation is not the best.
  2. why did you apply to a program where you didn't have shared interests w/ faculty, and why did they accept someone who didn't share their interests? Getting in anywhere else w/ a 3.5 PhD gpa is going to be hard.
  3. With the exception of UCLA and Irvine, all of those programs are very quant heavy in IR. I would suggest trying to boost your quant GRE. Verbal is obviously killer. also note that rumor has it trachtenberg is retiring, so don't put his name on the SOP!
  4. who knows. your grades are good; thats all we know. undergrad prestige isn't terribly important, dont's sweat it.
  5. 1) your gpa is low. if you want to go to a reputable phd program your best bet is to get a MA and excel. 2) i dont understand what "in those countries with scholarship" means in this case 3) you should do a MA in english to improve your English language skills.
  6. yes. retake
  7. Do you want to do positivist constructivism or nonpositivist constructivism?
  8. What political science works are you interested in emulating?
  9. what does this mean: ( and still working on future published paper)
  10. Well you definatily do not want to say anything like this in your SOP: "improve the problems of recent scholarship in Westminster systems?"
  11. Then even if you get it, you face the problem of "I want to study Candian/British politics but literally no one in the department does that". Better off finding a better fit from the get go.
  12. If you say in your SOP, "I am applying to X university to study Canadian politics" And X university has no professors that study canadian politics, then your file will be in the reject pile for sure: bad fit. why would they accept you when they can accept another student who has the same topical interest as you, but in addition wants to study the regions that they specialize in?
  13. Grades are good. GRE Q is low, especially for your research intersts. Do these schools have people you want to work with? For example, who at Columbia in CP studies Canada? Blattman doesn't count. Who at NYU? Cornell? Etc.
  14. All funded PhD programs will be selective. There are a lot of good people out there. I'm not sure if Kent State's PhD program is selective. I don't know if its funded. If its not funded, don't even think about it. If it is funded, only do it if you don't mind making 25k a year and do not desire an academic job afterward.
  15. Depends. Where are they? Are they in undergrad journals? No. Are they in political science journals that political science professors submit and read? then definitely, No one is saying it is bad. But, if they want to get into a top program, its going to need to be higher.
  16. Its a great score but esotericish is right that the Q score is low for top programs.
  17. Any respectable PhD program is fully funded.
  18. All we can do is tell you that you have a shot.
  19. We really need your GRE scores. also remember that its a crapshoot.
  20. I get the first part, but how is columbia different than other programs w/r/t funding and length of study? also check out HE Goemans at Rochester.
  21. no. 4.5 for me. still got into a CHYMPS
  22. The bottom line is, if this is what you want to do, you need to go to a top program for your PhD. OU is not one of them.
