  1. So there is this prof. at one of the programs I got into, that I'm really interesting to work with (same regional and substantial interests). I didn't contacted him before. However, his Ph.D. is from late 1970, which means he is probably near retirment. Is it OK to ask him how many years he plans to stick around and if I can have him on my committee? If so, what is the best way to do so? I probably will choose his dep. in any case, but I would like to have this information. On related subject, there are other (younger) profs. that I want to know if their will remain at the department for the next 5-6 years. Is it OK to ask? I cannot come to the open day (intl. applicant) so e-mail is the only option. If I was in their shoes and wanted to move on, I wouldn't sure if I liked to share this info with prospective grad student...
  2. Anyone else here still waiting for Wisconsin-Madison? It seems that they released they acceptances and rejects already...
  3. I believe that V155 is too low for most of these schools (maybe besides Duke, Brown and Penn). If you can get at least by 6-7 points more at the retake, this will improve your chances a lot. I would also suggest looking for Notre Dame, Indiana and Northwestern- overall, they are good for PT Good luck!
  4. I took GRE yesterday. This is my second time, the first one was August 2010 (I'm that old; apparently, the scores from July 2010 onwards are still valid). According to the unofficial results, I improved my Q and V scores by few points (and I hope that AW as well, because my first one was only 3). Anyway, after the test I needed to choose score recipients and to decide if I want to send all scores or only the recent ones. I was really tired after the test, so I clicked on "send all" -thinking that the fact thay I did the test for the second time can be interpreted as a sign of seriousness. But now I'm thinking that maybe I should have send only the recent scores and that the 5 years scores gap can look bad on the application. There is nothing to do about the 4 recipients, but I will probably apply to 8-9 schools, so I'm thinking wheter I should send them only the recent scores or all scores. Or maybe it all just doesn't matter. What do you think?
  5. International applicant, already Ph.D student in my home country. Applying for top programs, hoping to focus on comparative politics 4.0 GPA in BA and MA, good letters, V159/Q157/A3. I'll be doing TOEFL again and I wonder if I should retake the GRE also Or maybe the solution is to apply for schools that value GRE less? But I'm not sure to where... Thanks!
