I just talked with a professor on committee in UCSD. She said NO OFFER has been made but expect it soon. In this case self-reported offers seem to be spam, and folks let's calm down.

Professor Strom. Based on my intel he is on committee.

Professor said it is very competitive this year in UCSD and "be prepared if not getting admission". The committee is yet to have a meeting, and supposedly decisions would made in Early Feb.

University of San Diego don't even have a phd program in political science and someone post an admission? Strange.

From what i heard, an international student admitted in 12 was not funded and he finally went to another top 15. But in 13 they funded all incoming international students. And based on my conversation with Karen, UCSD does have funding for 14' international students.

I would visit Prof. Kaare Strom on Tuesday. He is committee member and we will see how things work out.

Or, we have a more competitive year and more anxious applicants coming in the thread? Or, the anxiety of this year applicant is more intensive than that of past year? Here we got two alternative hypotheses.

That is true. and UCSD is not friendly to international students.

Some people are saying they are applying UCSD...more pressure brought on my shoulder honestly. I am a current IRPS master student, and i happen to know something about the funding in PolSci department. UCSD started to grant international students with 5-year funding package since last year, and it looks like ~22,000 USD per year while at the same time you must serve as TA.

i was having a bad dream yesterday. rejected by all 10 schools. fuck me.

Peking University right? i don't know there is a political science department in China mainland, if you understand what i mean. By the way, I happen to know some other Chinese students applying political science Ph.D. this year, and they are from Yale, Stanford and Columbia. A very identical characteristics is that they would shoot for 8-12 schools.

Seriously, is 165 really a barrier for both Q and V?
