I had to write a thesis for my masters. I consider my thesis research and findings were the starting point of my interest in SLP!

That's awesome! Congrats! I haven't heard anything from Elmhurst yet, and I didn't even know they did interviews. Whoops! I'm really not sure!! It seems like a lot of schools send out acceptances/wait lists/rejections at the same time, but I could be completely wrong about that. I hope you hear something soon!

Sooo....any one else heard acceptances/wait lists/rejections yet? I feel like there should be a flood of decisions in the next couple weeks! I'm getting antsy!!

SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD
sayjo replied to twinguy7's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My post would have looked very different last week before I was accepted to U of I. My DREAM was for my husband & I to be able to move back to central Illinois to be near his family. Now it looks as if that dream has a strong possibility of coming true. So, my current dreams/hopes/guesses are... Dream: Get offered an assistantship somewhere! Hope: Get into several other schools (especially SIUE) so that I can have a range of programs to choose from. Guess: I might get into one or two more schools, but I doubt I'll get an assistantship of any kind. -
arthritiskid, major congrats! That's very exciting news! Morgrach1, try not to freak out too much. Honestly, your stats look good to me. If you've already gotten an interview, that means that your stats are looking good to the schools you applied to as well! In my opinion, a lot of people on this website (myself included) tend to be type-A personalities or perfectionists. I firmly believe this website gives a skewed view of what "average" stats are. Yes, higher stats can be better, but they don't necessarily tell the whole story. You might have lower stats, but awesome LORs and a killer essay. I know the waiting game is hard, but keep your chin up and think positively. Best of luck!!

BA in psych, wanting to do SLP. Advice/guidance needed...
sayjo replied to Saila09's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Yes, all classes are offered in the summer. Also, just so you know, the COMD classes have a longer summer semester than regular Utah State classes. I assume that this is so they won't be squishing a lot of info into a short 6 week class. If you have any questions about the program, I would highly recommend talking to Brynne Davies. She is the advisor for all 2nd Bachelor's students and she is very helpful. As far as working, I took two classes last semester while I was a full-time teacher and it was very manageable. Some people are able to take four classes a semester while working, but I wasn't able to, since I often worked 11-12+ hours a day. I believe USU recommends to take four classes per semester if you plan to finish the degree in a year. Again, (and this is just my experience), I wouldn't stress about the LOR. The professors at Utah State are used to writing letters for the 2nd Bachelor's students and seem to do a good job. I would just make sure that you have two people that you know personally to write your other letters. -

I'm doing the 2nd bachelors, but a lot of people just take the pre-reqs. That amount sounds about right for tuition. Bonus: you don't actually need the textbooks for most classes. And there's a great online community too. I'm part of a big group for Utah State 2nd Bachelors SLPs on Facebook. They give awesome advice and support. -

I just got into U of I and one of my letter writers was my online professor for phonetics. She asked for my resume, asked what grades I was getting, and asked me if there was anything special she should highlight in my LOR. I never saw her letter, but I'm assuming she did a good job since I got accepted somewhere. However, my other two letter writers were people I knew personally and I felt confident they would write amazing letters. Also, (I feel like a USU cheerleader) I've been EXTREMELY impressed by Utah State's pre-reqs. Even though they are online, they are very well done AND you get in-state tuition no matter where you live! From what I've heard, USU is pretty well known as far as online programs go, so you shouldn't have a problem with any schools accepting their coursework. -
It was January 15th. According the results search, they usually notify in late February/ March.

Congrats to you too, SLPamy!! It feels good to have one acceptance out of the way, doesn't it? Now we don't have to worry!

Honestly, I have no idea. Your best bet is to contact schools that you're interested in and see what they say. Sorry I can't be of more help! -
Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers for you!!

BA in psych, wanting to do SLP. Advice/guidance needed...

That is the tricky part. When I started to look at grad schools, I made a spread sheet of each school's required pre-reqs. You'll see that many of them are similar. Ultimately, I decided to do a second bachelor's because it covered all my bases and would only take me a year. However, many people have been successful at just taking pre-req courses. -

I'm a career changer too. I would suggest trying to complete your pre-reqs before grad school for a few reasons: 1. It will give you a larger pool of graduate schools to choose from. 2. It will give you a better chance of getting into grad school. 3. This is my subjective opinion, but I feel like doing the pre-reqs first is a cheaper option. This (obviously) depends on what school you're going to attend, but the price per credit hour at Utah State (where I'm doing my pre-reqs) is a LOT cheaper than most of the graduate schools I'm applying to. Changing your career can be scary, but it's well worth it if SLP is what you want to do! Good luck! -
U of I just emailed me - I'm accepted!! I'm SHOCKED. I wasn't expecting to hear back from schools until March!!

Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous! You would think they could share, like good little kindergarteners. -

Yeah, the transcript I had to send was pretty cheap (like $10 or under), so I didn't mind that much. I feel like it's total luck when it comes to that. I had a bunch of schools that didn't require anything extra, which was awesome. From what I remember, Purdue was the only one that asked for additional transcripts. I know I wouldn't have liked the CSDCAS system as much if all of my schools required me to spend extra money. A few did, but I liked how convenient it was to only have to fill out one major app for 7 of 9 schools. -

Yep, that's what I did. After your application is verified (aka complete), CADCAS will let you go back into it one time and update your fall grades. Then you send a second transcript so they can verify the academic update. The nice part of this is that schools consider your app complete after the first time it is verified, so you don't have to worry about your app being late. I think CSDCAS just sends them a notice or something after your academic update has been verified too so that your schools know to look for your updated grades. -

Actually, you can. I'm currently taking classes too. I submitted all my materials early, had my application verified, and did the academic update once my fall grades posted. All my apps were done on time. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude. I just don't think CSDCAS has done anything wrong here. I personally liked CSDCAS. It was tedious, yes, but most of my schools used it so it made my application process easier. -

I know that this post isn't going to be popular, but the CSDCAS website clearly states that during peak periods they can take 4+ weeks to process application materials. I really don't think it's CSDCAS's fault if you didn't adhere to their timeline. Their website has been open for the 2014 application season since September, making it easy to ensure that your transcripts, GRE scores, etc were received in time. -
Wow, I can't believe people are hearing back already!! Congrats, Julie722 and madisong23!
