Hi mlee, We don't have rankings in SLP programs in Canada. Canada only offers SLP program in 9 schools 3 of those schools the program is only offered in French. All the schools that offers the program are top notch schools. U of T, UWO, University of Alberta, McGill University, University of British Columbia, U of Ottawa (French only), Dalhousie University, University of Montreal (French only) & Laval University (French only). You can check out the CASLPA http://www.caslpa.ca/ and also a survey of all the schools that offers the program is there. Here is the direct link: http://www.caslpa.ca/system/files/resources/university_survey_%202010_speech_0.pdf

Last minute Letter of Recommendation
Persis replied to skeener687's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Perhaps we are not choosing people who knows us really well for rec letters. The person must know you very well and must be very willing to write it without hesitations. It is my first time applying, but all my references were on time. One completed mine on October 14, the second one completed it on Nov. 2nd, the third on Dec. 28. I was getting worried about the last one completed on Dec. 28th as well. But thankfully he came through for me. -

If they died? lol -
I know what you mean. My heart is towards SLP. I have been thinking about applying, but i really don't want to be a social worker. ah well.

University of Windsor has MSW program for working professionals. Alternate weekends. They offer it in Windsor, Peel Region, and Oshawa. It's 32 months if you have an honors degree in another field and 16 months if you have a BSW. It's a rolling admission.

Thanks caterpillar, i heard about the small cohort. I don't really know why.

Is anyone applying to West Texas A & M University and knows where to send our transcript? It says where to send the letters of rec and statement of purpose, but i am not sure where to send the transcript. Thanks

Hi CDAtoSLP, This is my first time applying to U of T. I know what you mean for the volunteer work. I noticed that and i was thinking the same thing. How would they know about my actual employment. So i listed them all. I listed every experience until i reached the maximum. As for the CDA not being an advantage. I heard that too. Apparently, they don't even know what CDA's really do.
-
Hi CDA to SLP, Thanks for all of that. It is very helpful. I am also in my 30's. Figuring out how to respond to post was confusing to me too. Just click on Quote when you want to respond to a particular message.
-
CDA to SLP, If you don't mind me asking how old are you? I am a CDA as well, and i am a mature student. I have only 3 years experience as a CDA. So, if you are not able to get in with all that experience then i don't think i have a chance.

Thanks sayjo. That is very helpful

Does anyone know anything about the following SLP grad programs: CSUEB, UCO, Governors State, Texas State San Marcos, West Texas A & M, & St. Ambrose. I an international applicant. I am wondering things like how hard it is to get into those schools if you have a low GPA, do they prefer their own students. Pretty much anything you know that will help me. Thanks.

twinguy7 Posted Today, 05:17 PM Well to be honest, I emailed probably 100 schools back in May and June and asked specific questions about their program, Class sizes, Cost, Acceptance Stats (gre, gpa, etc.) and did a follow up email to the schools that fit me and my gpa and needs. I narrowed it down to like 17 schools that I had a shot at getting accepted to. But now that I am applying, I think I have knocked it down to 10 schools. For me it was easier because of my GPA. I had to narrow my schools to those who look at your last 60 sem GPA since I had a 2.34GPA in my fisrt 2 years of school. But I was brutally honest in my follow up emails and asked if people with my stats and experience had been accepted at their schools this past year or 2 and I kept schools that DO accept people with my background and stats. Hope that helps!

Inny, So 3.71 is what percentage exactly? I am not really sure how U of T calculate GPA as my undergrad only does percentages. Thanks
-
Inny, Are you saying your overall GPA was 2.95 and you got accepted to U of T? or am i reading this wrong?
-
Ineg, Yes, i think you should still apply because really it is hear and say and we don't really know what they are looking for. Regarding UWO, one of my profs from my undergrad institution is a graduate prof at at UWO as well. She mentioned that they have a GPA cut off as well where they will not even look at the pile of applications that don't make the GPA for the application year.
