MSc SLP in Canada, what are my chances?
Persis replied to SLP-want2b's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
In Canada, the pre-req classes are not necessarily comm Disorders classes. The pre-reqs are phonetics, developmental pyschology, physiology, statistics & research design, one general linguistics course, anatomy, a neuro and a speech science class. The school you want to go to determines which pre-req you will need. So if your undergrad is in linguistics, psychology or some type of science then you should be fine. -

That sounds interesting, but if SLP is your dream i wouldn't give up. There are plenty of jobs in the field and you get a job in that too. -

ImpulsiveNixie, i know that i will be drowning in research articles and reviews. I did a lot of those in my undergrad. I am merely talking about helping professors in their research studies i have no interest in. I am sure that i am not the only that doesn't want to be a lab rat. People who are clinicians do not do research only professors do. However, as clinicians we have to read the up to date techniques and strategies that works and doesn't work. I am just saying that i have no interest in doing that. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Online or in-person leveling courses for non-trad student?
Persis replied to ng03's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Thanks LMZ, that is awesome. -
I am not interested in research at all. I did not do any research in my undergrad. I just want to be a clinician. Will not having any research experience affect me getting into grad school?

Transcript nightmare- help please!
Persis replied to Sœur d'une Étoile's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
It depends. Every school is different. I am in Canada, and i know that my school will record both grades for the same course. The first attempt is recorded as duplicate. The second attempt is the grade used to record your GPA. However, they keep second grade regardless of whether it was a higher grade or not. I know some schools will calculate both attempts. So, you might want to check your registrars and see how they do this at your school. Some schools will allow you to repeat and will record the highest of the two. So, every school is different. Again, check with your school.
