  1. I don't think HGSE releases admit rate, do they?...
  2. psych 111, why don't you email admissions office and ask what you're supposed to upload there and whether it means you're accepted?
  3. Hmm nope I don't have that option! Guess that means I'm not in ...hope it's good news for ya!
  4. Thank you, this was very helpful! If any of you UK-programme veterans are willing to give me some feedback on my SOP, please let me know! I would greatly appreciate that. Thank you, Phil413
  5. Congrats to you ! Thanks for the intel also!
  6. Congratulations, Meghangg!!!!!! That's very exciting! Will you be attending?! How long ago did you submit?
  7. tdix, when did you apply / how long has it been? I only submitted my app in early Jan so I'm definitely not complaining...just wondering how long it should take! what did you apply for ?
  8. Bobkindles, thank you very much for your super helpful response! I apologise, I should have clarified -- I'm actually looking to apply to MSc and Mphil programs (which, kindly correct me if I'm wrong, are the US schools' Master level equivalents?). Would that make a difference to what you have already responded with regarding UK PhD programs? Thank you again!
  9. Anyone apply / hear back yet? Since this is rolling, not sure when I'm supposed to expect to hear back -- is there a place we can check the status of our application? *Fingers crossed for everybody!
  10. Hi all, I am applying to a few graduate programs in the UK (or, as they call it over there, post graduate studies) and while this forum has taught me all I need to know about writing an SOP for US schools, I was aware that there may be a few stylistic differences in the personal statement/SOP for UK schools. Does anyone have any experience applying to UK schools, or would anyone happen to know, more specifically, what the key differences are for approaching the UK statement? If not, would you happen to know of helpful resources / forums for UK postgraduate studies which I could refer to? Thank you! [Edit] I am applying for MSc / Mphil programs, so am interested to know whether there are differences between the UK/US SOPs specifically for Master-level programs, if that makes a difference!
  11. Friends, forum, Just wondering whether there is anything at all for the applicant to do after the "submit" button has been hit -- implicit things, perhaps, like "this would be a good time to reach out to professors again" that would be good to do during this time (i.e. to increase our chances of getting into the program of our dreams!)? Some things I can potentially think of, but haven't acted on yet, are: - Sending thank you letters to your recommenders? - Reaching out to faculty to declare your interest (I applied to a MA program so I did not establish initial contact)? - Following up with Admissions Offices? - None of the above because it would just emphasize my desperation / be a nuisance? What do you guys think?
  12. Thank you! Happy New Year!
  13. Sorry if this has already been covered in previous threads or is already more than obvious, but does anybody know whether checking "yes" to being considered for the merit-based / need-based grants affects admission decisions in any way? Thanks!
  14. Hi Avena, I'm applying for a master's in an ed program, which is somewhat related, so feel free to PM me with your SOP and i'll be glad to give you feedback!
  15. Hi all, I know this is sort of a "no use worrying about it" sort of topic, but kindly indulge (or ignore) me . For curiosity's sake, I was just wondering if anybody has experience or insight on this matter. How much are we, as applicants, discredited in the admissions process generally for mistakes made in our LORs? For example, if we have done everything in our power to give recommenders relevant information but they submit a letter written for one school to another? Or, of course, the proverbial late letter despite multiple email reminders... What do you guys think?
  16. Thank you SO MUCH, ALL for such helpful, helpful responses. I am so grateful that such strangers online would jump so empathetically to my rescue (although I probably did sound like I was losing it). I have calmed down a little and have reached out to another professor for now, who probably doesn't remember me as well, but we'll see. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the tip on interfolio -- I checked it out, and it definitely looks helpful! I had not heard about it before -- is it expected / do most applicants use this to ease the process for their rec'ers? I didn't know this was the norm -- oops -- no wonder my professor was unhappy. Does it allow the rec'er to just upload it to interfolio, and I could submit to the individual schools, even if the contact information I submit on the application system is the email address of the professor? I also understand a professor not wanting to submit so many recs, but I was thinking the rec'er could essentially write the same one and just change the name (tailored?) of the program... fuzzylogician, if the application system directly contacts the rec'ers for their letter, how did you mean I could decide which letter to submit after asking for both? Would it not have to be the letter of rec'er whose contact information I submit?
  17. One of my rec'ers just wrote me saying she would no longer be able to write my recommendation, and there's a little more than a month before the apps are due. I am evidently freaking out - what should I do? Technically, she said she would be able to write me one general letter (ie. not tailored specifically to programs) but not send it to 16 different programs. Should I still push for it, or should I settle for one general letter, or should I try asking another professor so late in the game? Apologies in advance for the incoherence and clear not-keeping-it-together. THANKS!
  18. Do any of you applying notice the "Interest in Graduate Study" section in the application? Does anybody know what the purpose of this is -- do I have to really have to report other schools I'm applying to, and does it have a bearing on the application at all? Or is it simply a feedback for their recruiting processes? Thanks in adv.!
