  1. FYI 2 Year MSW applicants.... Hello, Thanks for the updated Resume – it will be added to your file. This year, admission offer letters for the two-year MSW Program will be sent out from mid-March to mid-April. As decisions are mailed out, your status on the On-line application will be changed to Decision Made. By mid-April all MSW decisions will be sent out. Due to the high volume of applicants, we are not able to respond to messages regarding when a decision will be made on an application. We ask for your continued patience. Best regards, Angela Umbrello Administrative Coordinator, Admissions & Programs Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto
  2. I emailed Angela last week to send an updated CV and inquired about the strike, no response so I am guessing they're just busy with admission decisions, the flood, dealing with the strike (even if it doesn't affect us, it surely must be causing some extra work for them) etc.. I woke up thinking tomorrow was March 1st, but once i realized the date definitely started counting the days and weeks until I could expect some kind of response haha
  3. I wish there were "Like" buttons on here haha
  4. Hello! Thanks for the hope! I did not get an "official" letter or email but I emailed to inquire as I applied 2 years ago and received an email a few days during the interview week. Their wait list would likely consist of the other 8 students of the 16 invited to be interviewed, given the process required to be admitted into the program I highly doubt they have any issues filling those spots. Unfortunately, that's the nature of such a competitive program! I have been looking into it and attending the information sessions for 5 years... this past year was the only one I haven't attended haha Good luck with your other programs and I apologize for not having such hopeful news! I notice you seem to be applying to an equal amount of MSW and counselling programs, any preferences?
  5. That slightly embarrassing moment when you realize ROSI has a tab for "Tracking Activity" for every time you log in and check your status, the admissions committee or who ever updates that must be finding that amusing....
  6. I agree, I wish our letters would start arriving! Does anyone know for certain whether the strike at U of T will be affecting when the 2 Year applicants receive letters?
  7. Just wondering if anyone who has been accepted to U of T or Laurier knows if any of their references were contacted
  8. It's unfortunate to hear that you all received news that came across as disappointing, especially since you all seem to be hard working individuals who have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort into preparing yourselves for these programs. I understand how long a year may seem for those of you planning to apply for 2016 as I was rejected the first time I applied to Guelph's program and again this year. Having had the experience of being rejected the first time has allowed me to change my perspective of these admissions letters regardless of it being an "acceptance," "rejection," or "wait list." I try to remember to see these letters not as a stamp of approval, success or failure but rather an indication of what opportunities lay ahead. My personal experience of being rejected has motivated me to re-evaluate my application and myself to see what can I do to challenge myself, figure out what are some things I have been wanting to do that I have put off because I keep telling myself "now is not the time," or if I am entirely not content with something change it to figure out what new direction I want to take. Ultimately, these are the things that have led me to apply for an MSW which I did not consider the first time around. Even so, if I am wait listed or rejected from the MSW programs this year I know it will be disheartening but I know that there are more opportunities to gain new experiences. @smpalesh your disappointment is understandable given your relentless perseverance, so hopefully you can find some comfort in everyone's support. Like you said U of T is a great school and top choice for many applicants, while it has its barriers for you it seems as though you have a supportive family to help you through it and the school seems very willing to accommodate your needs
  9. Very true, not to mention as much as I can my boyfriend's ear off about this entire process it helps to have other people who are in the same position. I was recently told by a student who will be graduating from the program this year that Laurier might be combining the curriculum for CPPO and IFG, again I am not sure when this will take place but have you heard anything about this? Also I find your research interest and goals very interesting, hopefully you'll have the opportunity to pursue them in the Fall
  10. @selis love the signature emoji's, I definitely chuckled
  11. Hi Dawnzii! Congratulations on the acceptance from U of T, I hope you were able to take some time to celebrate your accomplishment so far I think your question can depend on numerous factors: 1. The program's curriculum - U of T offers several specializations in addition to collaborative degree options which is great if you have a specific focus in mind. Laurier to my knowledge (someone can correct me if I am wrong) but from a student currently graduating I have been told they are combining their IFG & CPPO curriculum. 2. Tuition Fee - this might not be 100% accurate as I looked at previous years and I am also a 2 Year applicant.. http://www.fees.utoronto.ca/Assets/Student+Accounts+Digital+Assets/14+15+Schedules/1 U of T for 1 Year- $10,030.96. http://legacy.wlu.ca/page.php?grp_id=36&p=12504 Laurier per Term $3,655.03 3. Program Size 4. Commute/Living Costs 5. Research Interests and Future Plans - Are there any of the professors who have research interests that align with yours? or is there a university that has connections to practicums with certain organizations you'd be interested in working for in the future etc.. These are just some thoughts to consider!
  12. Welcome to the forum! I wish this forum helped ease my mind but some days I think it makes me more impatient, especially knowing that the advanced standing applicants are starting to get offers haha If you do not mind me asking what are your reasons for your preference between Laurier and U of T?
  13. Very true! I'm in favour of altering my obsessive behaviour over ROSI and Loris to finding Ryan Gosling meme's instead, it's a lot easier on the mind..and eyes haha
  14. Welcome! There are two blue links: 1. online form and 2. Master of Social Work. The first one is apparently supposed to redirect you to a page where you would have filled out more detailed information for contact purposes and also indicate the status of your application, the second one redirects you to your references which is the one you are likely clicking. I am aware our offers will not be out just yet but I just wanted to make sure I was able to see what others are able to view so that when the time does come I have the option to view it as well
  15. I know offers of admission are currently only going out for advanced standing applications, but I just want to clarify that you click the "ONLINE FORM" to be redirected to the admissions decision page? If so, have any other 2 Year applicants tried the LORIS trick? When I click on that it redirects me to a different page indicating an "error." I know 2 Year applications probably have not even been reviewed yet, but I just want to make sure my account is functioning haha LORIS (Laurier Web Information System) HELP | EXIT Application Menu Welcome, to LORIS APPLICANT SUMMARY Your contact information reflects what was noted in your application for admission. 16. Now why didn't I think to find a Ryan meme! Love it haha
  17. Hoping to bring some humour to this waiting process ....
  18. I wonder when 2 Year applicants will start receiving notifications, since they have started the Advanced Standing Applicants. Oh dear, the nerves!
  19. Same here jjmr89, now I am also reconsidering. On one hand, I have a specific focus in mind that is policy and research based in the field of health and mental health which requires a solid foundation of policies, current issues, the history etc... On the other hand, I would also like to ensure I have the opportunity to obtain skills related to therapeutic intervention.. I think I just need to remind myself these decisions can be made later IF I am accepted haha
  20. The 2 Year Admissions feels so far away and with the Advanced Standing applicants awaiting their letters so soon, I feel even more impatient now ! Good luck to everyone
  21. @purplegrey I could be wrong, but that appears to be concerned with teaching assistants and non-tenured positions. So, unless the professors on the admissions committee are part of that group of individuals I do not think it would affect the admissions process. However, someone could always email Angela to find out a definite answer.
  22. Good luck! I looked into Calgary's program but I want to stay in Ontario so I decided against it, but their curriculum for their program definitely struck my interest. Do you have any specific specialization or streams in mind for any of the MSW programs? I have applied to 3 schools - 2 MSW's (Toronto and Laurier) and 1 for Couple and Family Therapy (Guelph). The CFT/MFT program is a counselling program, but not psychology-based and very clinically focused. Unfortunately, they only interview 16 students and accept 8 into their program. So, competition is extremely steep!
  23. @Prairiegirl2015 where did you apply? @Rox I am not 100% sure but I believe some schools will offer funding when they send their letter of acceptance, at least this is the impression I have from previous posts for applicants accepted to York's program. As for other scholarships and funding I believe some application deadlines have passed, but I am sure there are other ones.
