  1. Just thought I would add in my two cents as well since I am currently attending WLU 2 year MSW program. I was initially waitlisted for both schools but received a letter of acceptance on the first day the waitlist opened up for WLU. From my understanding, the committee judges applicants based on minimum criteria first, and then personal statement. As someone with a fair amount of research experience I was surprised to get into WLU but I think this speaks to how I approached my personal statement. In hindsight, I tailored my U of T statement based on what I thought they wanted, rather than letting it be an opportunity to reflect myself and understanding. I did this because I knew it was competitive and it was originally my first choice. With my statement of interest for WLU, I wrote it a few days before the due date and my responses were more natural and reflexive. So, yes WLU is strict on the hour requirement (it is a minimum criteria) but it's based on good reasoning. Plus, I think these hours can be easily accumulated when considering the dynamic roles of social workers and related social work experience. For those deliberating over their acceptances remember, each school has its niche as well as its quirks but remember part of being a social work student is navigating these hurdles. Best of luck
  2. Hello! If you start from the earlier pages you can read some applicant's background information (GPA, employment and volunteer experience etc). Otherwise you can try personally messaging people and jump to around page 132 From the research I did prior to applying for my MSW, the main difference between U of T and York is: U of T = more clinical, research and evidence based approach where as York = emphasizes an anti oppressive approach. I can not elaborate much on York asides from the fact that they do offer a considerable amount of funding for students. Their MSW program was not one I considered based on what my academic goals and distance/commuting. On the other hand, U of T offers a wide range of specializations in their MSW program in addition to their collaborative degree options.

  4. From what I understand the two programs differ greatly in terms of the curriculum (York = Anti Oppressive Perspective/Socially Progressive, U of T= Clinical (Evidence Based Practices) and Research Oriented). Hope that helps!
  5. Just a reminder that there is a facebook group for Laurier's 2 Year MSW Program: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1397129410607604/?fref=nfor search Laurier MSW 2 Year Full Time.
  6. Received acceptance from Laurier off of the wait list this morning!
  7. @Ivm2015 & @katkatkat mine also says decision made, my guess is that this is updated once they received our reply to whether or not we wished to remain on the waitlist
  8. Angela indicated that if you have not received an update to your application via ROSI or mail by April 15th to call her directly. This is my first time applying for the MSW programs and second time applying for Guelph's CFT program. If I am not admitted off of a wait list this year I will reapply to Laurier and U of T as well as apply to McMaster's Post Degree BSW and Lakehead's HBSW
  9. I completely forgot about students graduating, can you tell I've been out of school for awhile haha
  10. I am wondering if someone can possibly confirm this, but from reading the past forums and the deadlines people were given to accept offers it appears that Laurier and U of T will start contacting their wait list candidates end of May and Early June. As well, I received notification that wait list candidates for Laurier and U of T have until April 28th & May 8th to reply so that's also what leads me to believe there is potentially another 1.5 month or 2 month wait until the list actually starts to see any movement. Is this correct?

  12. I have noticed several people mentioned experience working or volunteering as a board member for various organizations, can someone with similar experience provide some insight as to what this entails or how you obtained these positions. Thank you in advanced Feel free to PM if preferred.
  13. @AMetAllo I believe 140 are accepted for over 800 applicants, I believe that's what someone else indicated
  14. U of T has sent out all decisions as of yesterday and will not inform applicants of their decision unless you have not received something by Wednesday.
  15. Did anyone else receive a letter from U of T - rejection or wait list? I do not have an update on ROSI or any mail.
  16. Laurier indicated in their email that the wait list is not ranked and that the committee would review all applications when considering wait list candidates. Maybe U of T follows a similar method!
  17. Congratulations! Can you let us know what your ROSI and SGS say? I know SGS usually takes longer to change.
  18. I'll have to have a look at this, not because I have yet to receive any offers for the schools I applied to but because I have experienced an issue with the admissions process in the past. Due to administrative error my application was not even considered for admissions. Also several MA students from various programs have also looked at me quite shocked that there is no interview testing for MSW programs which many other programs involving a clinical aspect require. This is likely because they are waiting to receive replies from those they have sent out offers to before deciding whether or not to place applicants on the wait list or to reject them.
  19. I think both schools have an excellent reputation and it's important to remember you only get what you put in. Look at it this way, applying to MSW programs do you think either Laurier or Toronto placed emphasis on where you completed your undergrad? Not likely, they were mostly interested in your experiences and what you have accomplished professionally and personally. This to me is very important to consider when choosing a grad school, you have to think of what school offers you the best potential to succeed. Not necessarily provide you with the opportunity (e.g. placement) but the environment to succeed. (This is not to say placements are not important, I am simply suggesting that it is one aspect of your education so consider the other aspects. Classes, course content, class size, training, mentors/professors, skill building etc.) Having transferred between 2 universities in my undergrad I learned this the hard way, but am glad to have had that experience. I had come to understand that while the first university I went to provided me with more opportunities up front, when I transferred to the other school the opportunities were there but I had be to be a lot more self-sufficient and really advocate to get the chances and experiences I wanted. This experience contributed immensely to my work ethic and drive, which I am not so certain that I would have developed this from the first university. So, while you are thinking long term after graduating consider that employers do not look at social workers' education like a "brand name" they place far more emphasis on the worker. I have landed many opportunities when the possibility did not seem likely because I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Consider that when choosing
