  1. That's really strange that you would meet the requirements for other university's 2 year MSW programs, but not Laurier... Jenste's recommendations for non-MSW programs seem like good fits for you as well
  2. Have you considered Laurier's MSW program?
  3. Welcome Jenn! It sounds like you have some great working experience, so I wouldn't cut yourself short What unit of CAS do you currently work in if you don't mind me asking?
  4. @b39 lack of professional experience was one area I required improvement on right after graduating as well! So, I have definitely worked towards gaining more balance with my experiences I have heard that U of T is very research oriented and I am thankful for that because I would like to continue down that route, however the idea of living in TO is a little intimidating for me. And the application questions.. sheesh do not get me started on those! @ash_d19 it was luck of the draw for me really, I was on a job application frenzy after graduating my undergrad and having been unemployed for 2.5 months. But I applied through my university's job portal/system however take a look into specific departments at universities, colleges and hospitals
  5. @b39 do you have a specific stream or area of focus in mind for U of T and Laurier? It sounds like you have some great experience for this year!
  6. There's a new topic started for 2015 applicants Thanks smpalesh!
  7. I graduated with an Honours BA in Health Studies & Sociology in 2013 and I am currently working for a research team at a hospital that looks at children's development (from all aspects - cognitive to physical etc.) over the lifespan in addition to studying their mother's well being I have a diverse volunteer background ranging from 2 projects abroad to community organizations involving teaching, coaching, and CAS, and then fundraising and advocating for national organizations like Kids Help Phone! I am hoping that my lengthy volunteer involvement and good academic standing make me a good applicant for U of T's and Laurier MSW programs as well as Guelph's CMFT program. Best of luck to all!
  8. Also there's this link which has more up to date information http://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/eng/labourmarket/ojf/findoccupation.asp
  9. Hi there! Hope you don't mind me joining in on the conversation, but this website might be helpful to you when looking at job prospects by province/region/city. You can search by job, wages, education etc... Hope this helps! http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/home-eng.do?lang=eng
  10. I understand where applicants with a lack of experience are coming as sometimes your educations steers you in the direction of where you want to go career wise in which case individuals do not always realize or are advised to do some volunteer work to reinforce their later developed interest. Fortunately, this is not the case for me I am just curious to know if either U of T or Laurier had specific documents in their admissions package requesting applicants record these hours? I have had a look through both school's packages briefly awhile ago and do not recall seeing this, but since I am not applying for 2014 I could have overlooked this or something may have changed from when I did look. I believe I recall Ottawa requesting an outline of applicants' hours for volunteer work whether paid or unpaid...
  11. Just wondering if this is posted on the U of T website (700 hours of volunteer work), also: how do the calculations work in terms of paid experience? how many years back are these hours accounted for? Thank-you
  12. When are the summer courses usually offered (month)?
  13. Does anyone know how many students U of T accepts for their 2 year MSW program?
  14. Just wondering if you have applied to the U of G MFT program prior to this year?
  15. I am not applying for advanced standing since I did not graduate with a BSW, but thank-you for the link
  16. Hi everyone! I have been following the 2013/2014 posts and wish you all luck I remember how stressful this time of the year can be with applications and waiting on results I was hoping someone might be able to share some insight with me as I am hoping to return to school for fall 2015 - has anyone come across Canadian universities (preferably in Ontario) that offer a dual or joint degree for MSW and a masters in public health or global health? I know U of T offers a collaborative program in community development and health service and policy research in addition to specializing in the following topics: Children and Their Families Social Justice and Diversity Mental Health and Health Social Service Administration Social Work in Gerontology But I was hoping there might be more options out there, especially since the closest program I can find only takes 3 students a year (again at U of T- Health Administration/Social Work (MHSc/MSW) Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you
  17. I am hoping to get some advice from graduates or students in the program as to whether they would recommend Guelph's MSc in couple and family therapy or an MSW - things to consider employability after graduation, workload, work environments, pay, job type flexibility etc. thanks!
