  1. Congrats! Any leads on apartments? Will you aim to live within walking or biking distance or further out? I hope to stay close, but the closer apartments are more expensive, of course. Not sure yet what we'll do.....
  2. Well, we're just now hitting mid-April, so you might hear any day now! Good luck!
  3. Which program did you apply to, @dedelin? If it's been a while since you've had contact, I would think that you could call or email to ask for a status update. Good luck!
  4. Happy Spring! I've accepted a PhD offer from IUPUI so my husband and I will relocate to Indianapolis this summer. Anyone else bound for Indy?
  5. I'm in! Fully funded! I'm proof that low GRE scores aren't always a deal breaker. So excited! *happy dance*

      Congratulations! That's pretty sweet.

  6. Got my acceptance letter via email this morning! Champagne tonight! No more whining for me (well, not about waiting, anyway...)
  7. Yessssss! I'm in! The email came early this morning. I've been walking around in a daze with a big, goofy grin. Good luck to others who are still waiting!
  8. I was told I would hear "by mid to late March." So far March is the slowest month ever in my life.
  9. Wow, that's a late deadline! Step away from the computer for a month if you can.
  10. I've learned that we shouldn't read too much into the data on the GradCafe Results page -- if a program has a new director, that person may alter the adcom process, taking more or less time than in previous years. Regardless, we're all one day closer to knowing. Happy March, everyone.
  11. Go for a full Brazilian -- maybe that will result in a generous fellowship.
  12. Oh, how I wish more US schools operated this way. April 15th is a firm deadline for many, but knowing how much is at stake -- potential relocation, employment changes, etc. -- holding themselves accountable to an earlier deadline would be wonderful. Oh well. I guess it's good practice for us when we're in academia and see things move at a glacial pace.
  13. Was told today that decisions will come out in late march -- a full month later than they have in the past. The new director must have a much different process than his predecessor. I thought I was days away from hearing. Now I gotta wait another month.
  14. I see from GradCafe results that decisions for the program I'm waiting on have come out between Feb. 22 and 28. There is a new program director, though, so the process and timeline might be different now. So..... I'm going a bit nuts right now. Can you break the internet from refreshing a results page too often?
  15. I need a pep talk. Please, somebody loan me the discipline to not contact the program and ask when decisions will be made. I know I shouldn't do that, but......ugghhh.....
  16. Well, we're past the February halfway point, and we're all still breathing. That's something. Good luck, everyone!
  17. OMG, it came out during our phone conversation that the adcom has not even received their application packets yet!!! The deadline was Jan. 15th. I could have handwritten copies of all the packets for them by now! WTF?!?! I had assumed they would have been through at least one round by now. Seems they are moving at glacial pace this year. The funny part came when the prof noted -- by way of encouragement -- "oh, but we are meeting this month!" This month. Not this afternoon. Not this week. But this month. Gee, thanks. Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the adcom procedures I cannot change...
  18. I agree it depends on the situation. I'm an executive and will be expected to give 3-4 months notice, and to also help with an executive search. My last place of employment actually required 6+ months notice for the executive level per the employee handbook, which we all found laughable. Whether I'll be able to keep my head in the game for 3 months is another matter. My SO will start to job hunt in a new city as soon as I have an acceptance in my hand, so it may be that he needs to move before me. If the executive search is going well and my SO is moving, I may try to head out earlier. My predecessor was in the job for 18 years, and her predecessor was in the job for 15 years, so the board will be in for a shock when they get my notice. I really dread that day. Ah, the power of guilt!
  19. How's this for awkward: I'm taking a course remotely, and at the beginning of the semester the professor scheduled phone conversations with every student to get to know us better, try to minimize hurdles that come with distance learning, etc. My scheduled time to meet with her via phone is tomorrow. She happens to be on the AdCom. The application deadline was Jan. 15th so the decisions are probably not made yet, but surely they have gone through one or two rounds by now. It's going to be sooooo hard to not scream out "I don't want to talk about the class! Tell me if I'm on the shortlist or not! I'm dyin' here!!!!"
