  1. Never heard of it. I'll give it a try. I like archestudent's description of postrock as it is close to mine. I usually describe post-rock as some sort of fusion between minimalist/modern classic (Glass, Cage, Riley), ambient (reminiscent of Helios and the such) and progressive rock. Helios:

  4. My goal in life is to become pinkster. In about 36 hours she managed to get more down-votes than Loric. That is quite an accomplishment, albeit a negative one.

My parents had me when they were both graduate students. To this day, despite the lack of sleep and being tight on money, they still refer to that time as the best time of their life. ps. I'll chip in for the lions.

  7. I checked with my previous roommie and he only got his forward email late in January last year. What a bummer.
  8. RA 35 hours a week for 12 weeks, iirc the salary is around 20$ and hour. Other than that, I'll be spending 4 weeks at the ICPSR.

  14. Every Canadian university with a quota as to proceed to departmental evaluations (A: recommended or B:not recommended). They also need to communicate the results of those evaluations as per the SSHRC's rules. The applications which are A-listed by the department are entered in the national competition and then evaluated by one of the five committees.
  15. Submitted mine two weeks ago. I was A-listed by the dep. I currently hold a M.A. SSHRC and I'm fast-tracking to a Ph.D. program. It's a long wait indeed.
  16. The deadline here was the 15th. I unofficially heard back from the dep. they met and I was A-listed. We'll see how it goes.
  17. Find your to-be advisor and have him critisize your "Program of Study".
