  1. Sorry if this question has already been asked but does anyone know of a place to look at current rankings of grad art history programs? Thank you.
  2. Great thanks! I'll PM you when I know for sure if I'm going to accept Case's offer.
  3. I've been wondering....is it a good idea to email back just to say thank and confirm I've received their offer and just say I look forward to the official package/letter?
  4. I did look at their off campus housing website and one thing I noticed about the vast majority of the apartments was they don't have washers and dryers. It may sound petty but that's a deal breaker for me and my boyfriend. We have to have one in the apartment. Otherwise, pricing seems reasonable. The budget isn't a huge concern but I definitely want to be reasonable. I'm from northern virginia just outside DC but I'm finishing my bachelors in a smaller town in southern Virginia. No I've never been to Cleveland and don't know anyone who has hence my inquiries here. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll check out zillow.
  5. What a coincidence! Yes I was accepted to Case for an MA in art history. I have another offer and 9 more schools to hear from but it was one of my top choices so am I strongly considering going there. I'd appreciate your thoughts!
  6. Thanks for the responses. I was thinking of hiring someone because I'm kind of picky and I've had really bad experiences in the past with landlords. Multiple landlords. I also was thinking that this person might have more (hopefully unbiased?) insight into particular areas. My biggest concerns are safety and not living in a place with undergrads partying every night. Im strongly considering a school in a big (ish) city so, again, safety is my biggest priority. I'm also a little weary of Craigslist because I'm hesitant of the validity of some of the ads on there. Good idea about checking with the school to see if there's someone who assists with off campus housing. Some of the schools I applied to have websites for students living off campus.
  7. Sorry - to clarify I know it says via email I meant was it an email directing them to the website or from a faculty member. Thanks!
  8. Not to turn this into a witch hunt but is the person who heard from GWU here? Just wondering how you were notified. It seems to be the first posted admit. I applied but haven't heard anything from them yet. Congrats though!
  9. Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to hire a realtor to help me find an apartment? Do realtors even do this for people renting? Thanks for any advice!
  10. The one school I've heard back from and been accepted to also still says "under review" but I'm still slightly concerned about the other ones. I've checked though and it looks like everything is submitted for the apps although one of my recommenders was weeks late for nearly every deadline.
  11. I'm wondering about something similar...some of my applications say "under review" but most still just say "completed" or "submitted". Do most schools bother to change it to "under review"? Any thoughts?
  12. Domino: did or do you have a Masters when you were applying to PhDs?
  13. I just received my first admission to CWRU's MA program in art history. I don't mean to brag but not a lot of my friends and family understand how stressful this process has been. I'm so excited because this is the first time I've applied to grad school and this was one of my first choices! Still 11 more schools to hear from but I'm relieved to have at least one admission. I wish all the best to everyone waiting!
  14. Fais202: thanks for your response. I applied to the art history program. If you have any further insight I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
  15. I'm curious as an American student applying to a Canadian school about what Canis asked above. I applied to Queens for a masters in the humanities and I'm wondering how the school and its humanities department is perceived among other Candian universities. I certainly am not solely concerned with prestige but I have no idea about the "rankings" of schools in Canada. I applied because the program and my POI are a perfect fit for my research interests but I would like to hear some other peoples opinions. Thanks!
  16. Ok good to know. I'm a little paranoid! I didn't really think it would be a big deal to submit without images because the committees aren't giving us a grade like in a class....they just want to see quality writing and original research?
  17. I submitted my writing sample without pictures to the schools I've already applied. I still have a few to go. My computer is old and I had a hard time getting the file to format so I removed the pics. Is this a huge mistake?? This thread worried me a little bit. (Or am I overthinking?)
  18. TakeruK - thank you so much for your detailed reply. If you wouldn't mind I would like to ask you a few more questions. I am new to this forum and I'm not sure how to PM someone though
  19. I'm applying to a variety of schools. Luckily money for applications and support from my letter writers is not an issue but yes, I am a non traditional candidate. I am very drawn to the program and faculty at Queens and even if it's a long shot I don't think it will hurt to apply.
  20. Yes their baroque (my focus) program is quite strong from what I understand and I have done research on some things in their collection. I just don't know if I'm up for taking a leap to an international school.
  21. Just as the title says...I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the art history program there. I'd be slightly nervous to apply to a school as an international student. Thanks.
