  1. Could be incorrect, but it I think I'd fair far better against other undergrads.
  2. Waiting here, too. I might actually have a chance if what was supposed in the NSF thread is true (each year is reviewed independently of each other in each field). I'm crossing my fingers.
  3. Congrats!
  4. Congrats! I'm waiting on a confirmation of acceptance for mine before I announce it publicly. I'm probably more stressed about properly filling out the electronic form than I was waiting for results. Ergh. It's a little bit unreasonable to fear that I incorrectly ruined my graduate acceptance because I botched up an electronic form, but..

I would not be disappointed if this was the case.
  6. If you think it'll be a better environment for both a intellectual and practical reasons, I would probably take the loans. However, I wouldn't take on extra loans simply because of higher rankings. I'd personally only take on extra loans if it was a better place for me to learn. Just my two cents.

Hm. That's interesting. I'm applying as an undergraduate senior. Very interesting.
  8. Neither do I, but it's hard to argue with the price! It'll be around a $75 drop in cost in monthly bills between me and my spouse's cell bill. And ack! $90 for internet? I hope it's at least fast internet.
  9. At this point I don't think it's out of question to give a gentle poking. Maybe I'm off base in my assumptions, but I think it's probably fine to do so. In completely unrelated news, I jumped on the Nexus 5x Google Fi deal. I'm migrating over because Google Fi will make my monthly payments more affordable. Yay for the preparation for poverty.
  10. I'm more of a mezcal fan, but Patron wouldn't be undesirable...
  11. I thought I'd offer another bit of praise for Chromebooks. I've used mine for nearly three years and love it. Even though it was only a few hundred dollars, it still works perfectly. I love mine so much that I've considered getting a Pixel and using it as my primary computer. I do almost everything on the cloud now. Reference management. PDF markup. Music storage. Everything. If anyone wants some feedback from a long time user, feel free to send me a pm.

I'm curious if this will affect the reward chances.
  13. Unfortunately, no! Not I, but there isn't a gaggle of us on here, either.
  14. Some of us have obscure enough interests that there isn't any scholars/mentors at top programs. A lot of us will be in this position. We'll be fine.
  15. Good to hear about USCD! I'm glad you found a good home, and a well-funded home, to boot. The admit day went great, thanks! I haven't officiated my decision yet, so I'm keeping it on the low until I do. However, I know it's the right place for me to be, and that's what matters. I'll be sure to post an update when I make everything official.
  16. I've totally done this. Just let it bake a little. I'm feeling far more confident about my decision now that I've been boiling it over for a week or two.
  17. Ugh. My boss came in and had a chat with me about what I thought about options, and I think she was almost in tears when told hear I was considering leaving for a funded offer; there was always a possibility that I'd stay employed and pursue a degree part time. Now I feel like a bad person.
  18. I agree. I can only speak anecdotally, but I definitely think you could with teaching experience. I've met several applicants in various programs that have done really well and have had little else but substantial teaching experience (e.g., formal tutoring or mentoring for years).

    FAFSA?

I'd consider filling it out just in case an emergency came up and were short of resources. Is there a good reason why you shouldn't fill one out?
  20. I know nothing of the department, but I've been to Stillwater several times. It's nice, albeit it in the middle of nowhere.
  21. I'm not sure how IUPUI handle's admissions, but a quick google leads me to believe these are two separate programs. Most graduate programs decide independently of each other, so I'd think it rather unlikely that you could switch programs. You could always ask, but I'd be doubtful.
  22. You can thank me later.
  23. Congratulations!
