  1. You know, I worked quite a lot figuring out what schools I should apply to and polishing my application materials. However, I never expected how much number crunching is required after one is accepted. It's a fair bit of logistical planning. I hope you hear something! Is Oregon where you're currently attending?
  2. That's how I got funding at OU this cycle. It definitely happens.
  3. Grad Cafe is definitely one of the most cordial forums I've ever visited. Happy to say I frequent it. Congrats!
  4. So I'm going to a recruitment weekend this upcoming weekend. They gave us names and brief bios of others attending, and I couldn't help myself but Googling everyone. Creepy? I feel a little creepy, but I also feel like its justified because it's research.
  5. I'm of the mind that any news is good news. Life likes to throw obstacles in our way, and you can't overcome them until you know what they are. And wow! York takes that few? Huge congrats on that acceptance, then!
  6. Hm. Gluten-free laminated dough? That's a tough one, though I think you could make something similar. I'd look into a gluten-free flatbread recipe, maybe a roti or something similar, then use a chocolate spread on it and roll it up. Not exactly the same thing, but I bet it tickles the same snack urges.
  7. Way more than 4 creme eggs. I'm a trained pastry chef, and I can tell you with confidence that one can eat quite a lot of chocolate in one day.
  8. Congrats! I'm still waiting for my RPI rejection. I'll probably email someone if I don't by sometime next week.

I feel as though it's a little bit rude to graduate programs as well. If I get awarded one, it might affect my decisions as to where I attend. As it stands, I have to hold off until late March.
  10. Just remember, there's no such thing as failing. Either situations become more difficult, or you give up. I'm sure you'll be fine! I bet everyone else at Cornell thinks they aren't good enough either, and if they don't, they are probably arrogant jerks.
  11. I know exactly how you feel. When the last school I had nothing from finally gave me my rejection, it was quite nice.
  12. Congrats to whoever got into HASTS.
  13. Yup! That's what I'm hoping. The primary difference between my two offers is that they lead to different careers. BGSU would head towards teaching, and I would love to teach, regardless of the level. There's incredibly strong pedagogical training in the PopC program at BGSU. However, OU would give me a MLIS, and as I've already spent about 13 years of my life in libraries (9 years in management), it's not absurd to imagine that getting a MLIS is a good decision. I would be a very, very qualified applicant for entry level jobs that require a MLIS. There's no doubt I could find a job. Hard decisions. I could always get a MLIS after the Pop Culture MA, but it might be unfunded. It's not easy to get funding for MLIS degrees.
  14. Same. Been doing a lot of number crunching for cost of living with stipends. Now that I have two funded offers, I figure I should be a little bit subjective about it.
  15. I was at work for both of my funded offers. I work a lot.
  16. I mean, I can't say if contacting pinch is a good idea or not. But I would. At this point.
  17. Hm. Possibly! That'd be a judgment call, but he was the one who sent out the decisions.
  18. That sucks. I'd like to hear from RPI. I'm fairly positive that I'm not accepted. Maybe wait listed, but not accepted. I was told by another forum-goer that their meet and greet is next week for accepted students. At this point I'm wish they'd let me know out of courtesy. Then again, maybe they have some highly irregular admissions process. I dunno. I'm confused. They told me they hoped to finalize results by early March. I'll probably email them if I don't hear back by the end of next week-ish. Yeah, and it's hard to know how many of those are MA students and how many are PhD students. Four-fifths of those acceptances could be MA acceptances.
  19. I'm in a similar situation, and I think I'm just going to take out loans for the fees. It's only a couple thousand dollars a year for me, and an extra $200-300 a month would be a serious quality of life improvement. It'd be the difference between ramen noodle dinners and decent food with an occasional happy hour beer. Those small loans should be my only debt for graduate school, though. Assuming I don't have some large financial burden pop up.
  20. You know, I never realized how big that department is. https://www.petersons.com/graduate-schools/bowling-green-state-university-college-of-arts-and-sciences-american-culture-studies-program-000_10041901.aspx I know that Petersons isn't exactly 100% accurate, but even if it's close, they have a fairly large combined MA/PhD contingent each year.
  21. They haven't told you yet? Guess they are really dragging their feet.
  22. I still haven't heard from RPI. Their meet and greet is next week, so I would like my rejection already. It's impossible to guess if I'm even on a wait list because no rejections from RPI STS have yet to be posted.
  23. Today would be the day, I assume. A lot of programs send out contacts on Friday afternoons. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
  24. I should state, just for the sake of clarity (in case others stumble into this thread), many people spend much more than 5-6 years to finish. This is a little bit old, but.. https://www.cgsnet.org/ckfinder/userfiles/files/DataSources_2010_03.pdf To @ecneicS, I think it means it's just insurance, but it might be possible to secure funding later. I imagine most programs state this because they have to forecast budgets, and they can't really say "you can be here as long as it takes". Of course, the exact intent of the wording probably varies from program to program.
  25. Same, although I think I'm finally slowing down. However, they are starting some major construction in the building I'm in soon, so who knows how that'll affect things. I'm a bit late to the party, but congrats @SLPgradstudent! Haven't been trolling these boards last day or two as much as I usually do.
