Since you took it in April, you should be aware of the topics on the exam and where your weakness lies. I'm also trying to prepare for the cs gre and searching for materials that would help.
-
I don't quite remember the title, but there is a pdf written by a cmu grad student with questions and explanations to a test he wrote to help prepare others for the cs gre. You can also look on the ets website for a sample cs gre. Go over the cs gre outline of topics and look over your notes as an undergrad.

One of my LOR is from a professor I had for only one semester, but then I also was his student grader the following semester. To cut a long story short, he referred to me as a genius in one of his classes and was more than willing to write me a LOR from just taking one semester with him. I say that if you can show potential or demonstrate your interest, then I think it should be possible. EDIT: Why not try to get a LOR from the professors in Istanbul?
-
I suggest you just take advantage of public transportation to save money. You should get an eco pass for being a student.

Does extra curricular activities or volunteer work help your application in any way?

I don't go to Stanford, but I'm familiar with the campus (worked as a research assistant for a year). The only place I'd recommend to eat would be Thai Cafe. I'm not too fond of the other places on campus, aside from Clark. If you don't mind driving, downtown Mountain View on Castro is a pretty good place to eat. If you're from out of town, then I also suggest going to Downtown San Jose and eating at La Victoria's (don't forget the orange sauce with whatever you eat!!) or Iguana's. And if by chance any of you guys play badminton, send me a pm.

What about employers?

I went from 36 to 15.

I say minimum gpa and gre requirements are not set in stone. Though my concern with your gre scores would be your writing. If you were to take it over again, I really suggest you look at Princeton Review or Barron's for the writing portion. Following their templates gave me a 4.5 on my writing. My scores are very close to yours (760q, 490v, 4.5awa) and I actually plan on retaking the gre again if the practice tests consistently say I will score above a 750q and 650v. For now, I've been working on my SOP. Did you work on any research in school (I don't know how much research if any at all is involved in ME)? What have you been doing since you graduated? What schools do you plan on applying to?
-
I should probably just do that. I'm not really using common sense
-
I guess I should just be safe than sorry. I wanted to avoid having to pay the other school their $10 fee for each transcript.

If you're still trying to go to grad school for this, then if funds aren't an issue then check out specialty schools. I don't know many off the top of my head aside from the following US schools: DigiPen, Full Sail, Ringling, SCAD, Academy of Art, and ETC at CMU. I will say that the programs at these schools are specialized, but are very expensive. The program at CMU is about $50k a year. Don't expect any kind of funding from any of the schools I've listed too. This site contains a list of schools too: http://www.gamecareerguide.com/digital_counselor/ If you enjoyed prolog, then maybe look into programming AI in video games instead.
-
During the application process, they ask you to list the schools you've attended. At one point during my undergrad career, I took one class over the summer to cover a ge requirement. The class is shown on my main university transcript. Do I still need to have the other transcript sent even if it shows on my main university transcript? It was a summer class which lasted 1 month.

Your knowledge plus a bit of reading should be enough to get you an entry level job as a programmer in the video game industry. But you said you don't like programming, so I think that's out of the question then. If you want to work in video games, then check out gamedev.net and gamasutra.com to learn more about the industry. Also working in the video game industry doesn't really require you to have a PhD. There may be a few jobs, but it's far too few to even consider it in my opinion.

IPAX from Sony is not a company, but a collection of schools that fulfill certain requirements to be part of IPAX. So you want to get into computer graphics, but you know nothing about what you want to do. Sounds like you just want to learn how to program computer graphics using opengl. What exactly are you looking to do for work in computer graphics? There are different industries out there for computer graphics. As far as further academic study, it all depends on the person and what they want to do. I don't think you've really thought this through enough. Do you want a specialized or directed degree to get you into specific positions? Do you want to do research? If you understand and get back to me with some answers, then I can probably direct you to other programs out there.
-
I think a good place to start would be your references. Ask them for help on your SOP such as what you should be writing on or for an outline of some sort. They've been through this too.
-
Big thanks for the Quizlet site. I've been using freerice and number2 just about everyday for the vocab. I'd also recommend the Barron's book for studying for the quant.
-
Yes, definitely check with what your school has to offer. I think they may be cheaper to buy, though I'm not sure what is covered.
-
Thanks, that helps a lot. There should also be an indicator of whether they've received it or not from what I remember.
-
So schools don't keep GRE scores you've sent in the past if you did apply? It sounds like you meant that they don't keep GRE scores even if you applied before and also if you haven't applied.
-
I will keep the idea of retaking the test open. If I see any significant score improvements in my practice tests in the next 2 months, then I'll probably retake it in early November.
-
Since you bring up funding, would my chance of being accepted into a graduate program increase if I require very little to no funding? I'm speaking mainly about the public universities in California (UC and CSU). As long as I don't make a certain amount by the end of this year, I will receive a tuition waiver from the government for the public schools in California. Basically, I would just have to pay the miscellaneous fees that those schools have along with the basic necessities (housing, books, and food).
-
I'm not sure if this can apply to you as well, but participate in research, get papers published, attend conferences (volunteer also), etc. It's good to know that you thought this far ahead.

Is this the same Seth that worked at DreamWorks as a recruiter?

I'm still deciding on whether I should retake the GRE or not. My current score is 760q, 490v, and 4.5awa. I will be applying for Computer Science graduate programs. Would raising this score to at least a 800q, 600v, and 5.0awa make a huge difference? Should I just concentrate more on my SOP?
