  1. I would go with option #1. I am in the same boat as you...mostly rejections. I got into one place with no funding and the second school hasn't made funding decisions so I might stay where I am now and teach for a year and reapply. I wouldn't apply late this year because the economy is SO BAD that it is highly unlikely you would be able to get funding with a late application. And you also don't want to rack up debt. i say study study study, retake the GRE, save some $$ and apply next year. I think that is what I will end up doing as well. good luck!
  2. Congrats to eveyone on their acceptances. I called OU, Syracuse and GSU. Left messages with OU and GSU. Syracuse told me that they have not made all of their decisions yet. I guess I am waitlisted. Who knows. UCONN told me it would be a 'couple of weeks' before they decide on funding. 2 weeks from now will be the week of the 15th. How am I supposed to inform them of my decision whether or not to attend if I don't have any information about my funding package by then?? I am beyond frustrated.
  3. I am in the same boat. I got into my safeties. And I really don't WANT to go to either school. I might stay where I am now (Miami) and teach for a year (I was offered a position---unoffically---won't sign anything til april 15---as a full time instructor) and then retake the GRE, work on my POS a LOT MORE and really figure out where the best fit for me would be!
  4. Okay guys so I need some opinions. I did not get into my top choices of schools. I got into UCONN and Rutgers. Still waiting on Syracuse but highly doubt I will get in there. However, the chair of my dept offered me a full time teaching position for a year. I'd be teaching the same classes I am teaching now only 4 sections instead of two. The pay is good and full benefits. I would also be able to save some $$$, pay down my student loans, retake the GREs and really focus on my statements of purpose...visit some schools etc. I'd reapply this coming fall - to my top choices and I'd really investigate schools that would be the 'best fit' for me. Then again, UCONN is close to home and I really miss my friends. But...I've heard there are a lot of departmental problems. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh decisions decisions!
  5. WOW. I. AM. SPEECHLESS.
  6. I think the worst was the email I got from UMASS-Amherst. They tried to be nice about it, which just made it worse. Just be honest : You are a ruh-tard and we are not admitting you mmmmmkay? In all serious though I got rejected from UMASS and UNC off the bat and then got into Rutgers and UCONN so I feel okay I am still waiting on 3 schools. I think everyone here could use a laugh:
  7. I got into Rutgers but without funding so basically I cannot go there. I applied to MAss Comm PhD programs. EGADS I am so irritated. I still have not heard from Ohio and Syracuse. I thought I stood a good chance of getting in at OU but Syracuse I know is a huge reach. I got two rejections right away (from UMASS and UNC) so if Syracuse and OU were rejecting me then why haven't they just sent me a rejection letter? Does this mean I am likely 'waitlisted'? I've called both schools and they are still 'making decisions' (though I called them in late Feb). Should I call again?

  9. Seriously! I did not even get a Skype interview. Which makes me think I am rejected...but if so...why not tell me already?!!?
  10. I am still waiting to hear from Syracuse and OHIO. Syracuse's deadline was 12/10 and I called but they told me they are still making decisions. I would like to think that if I had been rejected I would have found out by now...but I don't know...is that a bad sign or a good sign???
  11. Congrats on your acceptance!! I hope it goes well!!!! That is fantastic! I understand about your trepidation though...it is hard to make a touch choice like that! I guess I will not be attending GSU I am still waiting to hear from Syracuse and OHIO. Syracuse's deadline was 12/10 and I called but they told me they are still making decisions. 12. Alternatively I could move back home with my Dad....wait...scratch that...I can forge a career at McDonalds!
  13. I might teach full time for a year, save $$, and reapply. More money means I can buy $9 bottles of wine instead of my usual $6-7 limit!
  14. I think that was just for the PhD in Media Studies....
  15. If you don't mind me asking, what did they offer your friend for a package (funding, assistantship etc)? Thanks!
  16. I actually had to CALL them to find out if I was in or not...because online it said app pending.....so I think their comp system is down/messed up. I found out i was in when i called....I suggest you do the same.
  17. Thanks PR Guy...one of my profs STILL HAS NOT sent in the rec. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. She will send it before the deadline but still...I wanna know now!! I am confident I can get in there. But right now it looks like these are my choices Syracuse--If I get in with funding I will go GA State UCONN Ohio U I am going for a PhD in Mass Com....emphasis on film and feminist pedagogy. What have you all heard about OHIO?
  18. From what I hear, they have a great program. I liked what I read on their website as well. I applied for a PhD in Public Communication. Anyone know anything about GSU? Anyone applied there?
  19. I now have a lot of reservations about attending UCONN. The program doesn't seem to be a good 'fit' for me. The department is going through a lot of problems right now (from what I have heard from others) and that it takes people about 7 years to complete their PhDs because the courses are not offered often enough. Plus the professor I was speaking to told me that several of the faculty members are on maternity leave....and they happen to be profs I want to work with. Plus the department is entirely quantitative in nature. Their website is VERY misleading. So....I think if they offer me a spot I will have to decline. I just don't think their program is flexible enough for me to be able to study what I am interested in studying. Oh well. I still have to hear from Syracuse, Ohio and GSU.
  20. Well I had the interview....she just wanted to clarify what I was interested in. I say a lot of "ums" when I speak....I hope I didn't blow it. She said "thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak with you" but did not make me an offer....I guess they are calling several students and maybe later on this week they will be making offers. Who knows.
  21. To my surprise I got an email from the Professor I want to work with at UCONN. I have a phone interview later this week.
  22. The professor I want to work with at UCONN contacted me via email to set up a time to talk via phone !! I am taking this as a good sign :)
  23. I was not contacted for an interview at Syracuse but I called to inquire about my application and they told me they were still making decisions. I don't know what that means...if I am rejected just tell me already. I am going home in a few minutes....maybe UCONN has sent me a letter....we shall see.....
  24. I know how you feel. hang in there!!
