Seriously considering distance learning programs. Being able to work while going to school, yes... Not having to deal with traffic every day, yes... Not having to deal with the politics of on campus programs, Yes. Not having to deal with the confines of potentially being stuck in one area or having a long distance marriage--double yes!

I was wait-listed for a different program and did find out somewhat where I was on the list. It never hurts to send an email to express your interest. Does anyone know of accredited online School Psych programs that have a good reputation? I have looked at NASP and see a few. I just do not have a good feeling about Capella. My husband moves a lot with his job and it seems online is the best way to go unless I want a long distance marriage--I don't.

Thanks Mary for getting back to me. The thing that could hold me back are grades from over a decade ago. I will have a very solid post-bac GPA which I hope they will look more favorably upon. I appreciate the insight.

I am new to this thread. I was/am trying to get into Speech Pathology programs. Long story short, my first choice was to apply for School Psychology programs. My husband is in the Navy, and there are no schools near us, so I had to change direction. I'm glad I found this thread and hope to get some good information. First question: How competitive is it to get in? People are being rejected from SLP programs with 3.8 Gpa's. I was wait-listed. Second question: I have seen a couple of NASP approved distance learning programs. Has anyone applied to those, or know their reputation? Third question: What are the schools looking for? I have over six years experience teaching high school. Work experience with kids on the spectrum. Numerous years of tutoring experience. Teaching abroad experience. A good Aw score on the GRE. (5) and a gpa above a 3.5 for last sixty hours. I've shadowed a School Psychologist. and have a lot of volunteer hours. I appreciate any insight provided. Thanks and good luck to everyone waiting to hear from schools. I do not have an research experience in School Psychology.

I am applying to SLP programs. I have an opportunity to work in a research lab at Harvard at spring break and then maybe some this summer. Will the lab work at Harvard and lor help my application? It will be a closely related field to SLP.

We are hoping to go to Texas. How are you finding the schools? I taught in California, so imagine there are some similar demographics. Also, do you think research experience helps one's application? Does Ivy League research experience matter?

Through a friend, I have an opportunity to work on a research project at Harvard in the upcoming months. It will be in a lab and neuroscience based. I am not sure how involved I will be, but my question is this... Will it immensely help my application? Before I go crash out on someone's couch, I need to be assured that having a recommendation letter from a Harvard doctor and research/lab experience will be worth it.

I think some of my volunteer work and two international work experiences are somewhat out of the norm. There are also things in my application that they might find interesting as far as sports go. My sports experiences were unique--and show tenacity. Because there was a place for awards they were mentioned. It's not always all about gre's and gpa's. One never knows what will interest the admission's committee. I would imagine they would want a variety of students in ages and backgrounds.

I'm trying to send my application off today. But if someone has time to look at mine and critique it today, I will totally look at theirs. I am at the point, where I just want to hit send, lol.

I am also worried about the credibility that would come from a distance learning program. I am old school and think you miss a lot not having the face to face interaction of a classroom and professors. Yes, I understand the world has progressed and it is the same credential. That being said, my husband moves every few years with his job, so I may not have a choice in entertaining distance learning programs. Wish someone that had done such a program could pipe in.
