  1. That was last year, 2015. I am currently completing my MSW at UofT
  2. Don't worry about the "under review" they are not good at updating that. Mine still said "under review" and didn't change to "decision made" until 2 weeks after I got my acceptance letter.
  3. Not sure about that. I heard in the first big batch that came out, ROSI changed to invited (will note that it didn't change to "decision made" until 2 weeks after I got accept so don't worry about that). I think the acceptances went out over a period of time and then the waitlist acceptances went out after the time period where the first round had to notify by. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not positive. The first round will have, if I remember correctly, about 3 weeks to accept or not.
  4. That doesn't mean anything. If you are in it will say invited. And unfortunately it is way too early for the 2-yr programs to hear. It'll be sometime in March.
  5. Hi, I am currently attending the advanced standing MSW at UofT. Yes, you can do a placement outside of Toronto but you have to organize it yourself. I live in Kitchener-Waterloo and am currently doing my placement there. They will support you but you will have to do the legwork yourself. Make calls, send out resumes, etc. You don't go through their system that the other person posted (the PAS), you opt out of the PAS.
  6. I am going to be completely honest with you and tell you the odds of getting into UofT with a 70 in research are very low. If you are interested in UofT I would recommend redoing that course to get your grade up.
  7. I deferred my acceptance from 2014 to 2015 and I am now currently the advanced standing program at UofT. I deferred due to health issues and they were very accommodating.
  8. UofT has a Social Justice and Diversity stream which I am currently attending. It is VERY focused on structural/anti-oppressive MSW. For the one year MSW at UofT the admission rate is about 1 in 3.
  9. I don't think it is true at all that everyone gets an A. That is actually kind of ridiculous. Maybe if they're getting a graduate degree in basket weaving or something. But you can certainly get the grades if you work hard and do your best. That said, I think not going it probably a good decision for you at this point. You seem really freaked out and unsure of yourself and that's not a good place to start from.
  10. I was accepted to UofT for fall 2014 but due to my health I couldn't attend. They deferred my acceptance until fall 2015 and I received a new acceptance letter when the fresh batch of acceptances went in. A deferral means your spot is guaranteed for the following year.
  11. IMO it is a bad idea. You're an adult. You made a decision. Now stick with that decision and finish your program.
  12. ohgosh - Do you realize how many times you said "so I've heard" in that post? You shouldn't be trying to influence other people's decisions based on heresay, and shall I say, maybe a bit of sour grapes.
  13. Heif1 - I have no paid work experience at all. I have around 3000 hours total between volunteering on a crisis line 8 hours a week for 5 years and my practicum during my BSW at a women's crisis centre. I got into UofT Advanced Standing with that. I cannot encourage volunteering enough, it really helps your resume and application and doesn't seem to be looked at as less than paid employment.
  14. I deferred so I already did the course registration last year before I had to withdraw. The course registration is done on ROSI. You will be told what day it is and it opens at 6am. Be on there at 6am. Last year certain classes filled up within 3 minutes. You can only add one class at a time so make a list of which ones are the most important to you and also which ones you absolutely want to have in a certain spot. Electives are usually only offered in one spot, one time during the year so those fill up fast. The evidence based social work research class that all 2nd year/advanced standing students has to take has a number of sections but they also fill up quickly so if you want your preferred spot get registered fast.
  15. I don't know anything about those schools at all but going to school in the city you want to work in makes sense, especially in the social work field. You are going to want to make connections during your MSW program. Seems like an obvious choice to me.
  16. I know you've already made your decision but my advice for anyone in this situation is never rely on a waitlist that may never come through. A waitlist is never a guarantee of an offer.
  17. I requested to join but it didn't give me an option to leave a message. Hopefully the moderator will just ask me if I am in the program or something.
  18. I don't know about your specific schools but I deferred my Master's degree last fall until this upcoming fall due to health reasons and my school was very accepting of it.
  19. Not everyone is accepted at U of T either... It is ranked 16th in the world so it is pretty prestigious.
  20. AMetallo - 90 people are accepted to the Advanced Standing at UofT and approximately 300 people apply. It is almost 1 in 3 odds which is awesome.
  21. jenste - I get my information from experience. If you drop out mid-semester they want the entire semesters money back right then. I had to stop a semester 7 weeks in because of health reasons and I had to pay them back all the money. It is one thing to finish one and do another. It is another to drop a semester. They aren't going to fund two programs at the same time.
  22. AMetallo - Obviously you can make your own decision but I still think it is a bad idea to enroll in one school and then leave when already in the program. OSAP is not going to fund one program and then fund another a month later. Just not going to happen. They will fund your BSW and then you quit and then you are on the hook for paying them back completely and then also on the hook for paying for your MSW out of pocket. OSAP is pretty strict about these things.
  23. Fenris70 - Definitely not the case for me. I grew up in severe poverty, got married at 20, had 3 children, and since then have used OSAP, loans, and my wonderful husband's income to get through a 4 year undergrad, a 1 year BSW, and now heading into my final degree, the advanced standing MSW. And I got approx. 3000 volunteer hours during the time period I was in school. It can be done and I have definitely had no financial help from my parents.
  24. Emilymasters - No it is not common for people attending MSW programs in Canada to get funding. There are limited scholarships at some programs and as mentioned York offers funding. As for UofT, I would wager that all the acceptances have likely gone out by now and they are sending out the waitlists/rejections. I'm not trying to be discouraging but I would be really surprised if acceptances were going out this late in the game.
  25. I am attending the Advanced Standing program this fall and already starting to feel the pressure! I have to opt out of PAS (their practicum system) so I can get a placement in my own area which means I have to go through the process of trying to work with their person to find a practicum. As I was deferred from last year I already went through this process and I am not looking forward to doing it again.
