  1. has a month and a half left to work and is fearful that *MIGHT* not be enough time to get it all done!

  2. My boss knows; he was one of my LORs and I gave him 9mos heads up. The funny part is that HE is keeping my departure a secret from HIS boss as long as possible. It's an odd and interesting position to be in.
  3. This is a terrible time for state and local governments in CA. I know, I work for one and have been since 2002. (Non Federal) Governments experienced the recession later than the private sector, but now the pain is hitting full force. My department has been cut by 10 employees (1/3rd) over the past year and at all levels. I'm not convinced I will wind up back in local government in NY, at least right away since they appear to be in the same boat. That said, by the time you complete a program, things should be beginning to improve and prior to that there shouldn't be any reason why you cant intern at one or more jurisdictions (which would be invaluable for networking) while you are in school. One plus for the bay area is they are comparatively affluent and are full of different jurisdictions that need management at all levels.
  4. This thread is making me cold just thinking about it. I moved from Chicago to San Diego over 10 years ago and subsequently lost most of my real winter clothes. I've since relocated to a portion of the state that does have subfreezing winter temps and (rare) snowfalls but it hasn't changed the fact I've become a kinda wuss when it comes to cold. Aside from the novelty of a real snowfall, I'm not overly looking forward to real winters again. Completely opposite, I dislike the combination of heat and humidity as well. Yuck. (Yes, I'm a weather wuss).
  5. could you get student loans to cover the uncovered portion of the living expenses? It's not like you will be piling up a great deal of debt with that GA
  6. I hate printers, especially home ones. They're made from the cheapest parts or have real expensive cartridges that leads to a surprisingly high cost/page. Check and see if your university has a printing allowance wrapped up into its fee structure. Mine does, I get a certain number of prints automatically. If you have something like that and not an overly large demand for printing, then it may be cheaper to print on campus. Something to think about.
  7. It varies from school to school and probably within schools as ad-com members review applications. This subject is something that garners controversy and occasionally lawsuits. Im not an expert in this field and generally steer clear of of these discussions as I lack any substantive experience in this topic that would be useful for your situation
