  1. For me the adventure is still there-both schools I got into are just three stops away on the same train line in the same city-but even then I still feel a little bummed that I turned down NYU. I still wonder what doors the program might have opened for me. It's ridiculous, I know. Baruch makes far more sense financially, will most likely help out my career the same way Wagner would have and plus they recruited me into the program. Fortunately these thoughts are relatively fleeting and I feel at ease about the decision, hence my banishment of my "decision meter" earlier this month.

  3. Being the technophile I'm leaning towards using a stylus on an iPad app or that recording pen device that JaeB recommended on the iPad thread. I haven't been in school for 12 years now (aside for work-specific training seminars) so I'm open to learning new tricks as well as remembering old ones.
  4. Shifting timelines isn't just limited to the New School. NYU "adjusted" theirs on a few occasions too. Out of curiosity, any reason why you didnt apply to NYU?

  8. Well I'm moving TO NY and won't miss (most of the time) the isolation that comes with living in out in one of the least populated areas of this state. Subway riding beats driving literally everywhere. And I'm not out in the remote areas. Im also not going to miss the dearth of cultural, retail and entertainment opportunities that comes with living here. I'm not going to miss my dysfunctional workplace that is falling apart literally and figuratively. I will miss the natural beauty of this area from the pastoral vineyard covered valleys, majestic redwoods and raw craggy coastlines. My family won't miss the torturous drive to the ocean that takes 90 minutes, despite it only being 20 some miles away on the map. I won't miss cleaning up my kids' vomit from episodes of carsickness directly attributable to the endless curvy roads. But I will miss the free and low-cost wine that comes with living and working with vintners in an area with some of the nation's most renowned wines.

    New York, NY

my family is in the same position as you. it's definitely stressful. We'll be truckin our stuff across country, hoping we can line something up quickly. Otherwise it's a storage unit for the stuff and a short-term rental for us. Fortunately my parents are watching my kids during this time.

  16. Wow, congratulations! My UG GPA was low enough it was recommended to me that I take it. It wasn't enough for any kind of decent funding but at least I got in to NYU. Baruch makes it clear on their application that a GRE is required for consideration for an assistantship.

  19. Check state regulations on state residency. It varies from state to state. Some make it easy to reclassify, others do not. Worst case scenario, decline the admit, establish residency then reapply.
  20. Officially neither school requires the GRE but if you want to improve your shot, you really need to take it. Plus neither school will consider you for scholarship/assistantships without at least one score. If you are coming straight from UG, it's probably even more important to take it.
