  1. I will likely be removing myself from Rochester within the next few weeks. I will also be declining USC's waitlist offer, as well as notifying Pitt to remove me from their waitlist. I hope this helps someone.
  2. I will be removing myself from the waitlist at Pittsburgh soon. I don't know if this may help any others also waitlisted, but I hope it does.

Hi there. No, official visits were not mentioned in my email either--just the advice that I should try to make it between Mon-Thurs and not between March 8-24 (spring break at Yale). Have you had further communications with your POIs or other faculty, or are we all just waiting on the official materials?

There seem to be a couple more Yale histart admits (though around the same dates--24th/25th)! Would they show up? I'm trying to coordinate things a bit so we may perhaps meet up during visit day. Please feel free to PM me.
  5. Oh, very nice. Nothing about admits or anything? What are your interests/what is your background? I've tried to figure out what "type" Harvard goes for for years--they still remain a mystery.
  6. There's a Harvard waitlist (via post...sheesh, it's 2013) report. Can anyone claim it? I'm really just curious to know if all their notifications are done so I can make my final decision.
  7. Over the past 3 years or so (including this one) UChicago's MAPH will have had 3 people--including myself this season--accepted to Yale's History of Art department. Two of us, myself included, are in the joint program with Film Studies. I don't know about MAPH's general placement to other art history programs, but I'd say something like that would certainly strike my eye. MAPH is not funded for a lot of people; I was fortunate in that I could afford it. In that sense it is certainly a gamble, but as far as I know, if you make good use of your time there, it can really send you places. I guess I'm certainly an example, as unlikely as it seems.

I can confirm the follow-up email, as well.
  9. I just received notification of a waitlist at USC. So for other applicants there--it seems the process is still ongoing.

I sympathise, I really do. I went through a lot of heartbreak last time around as well. In any case, your earlier post gave the impression that you actually spoke with the DGS, which is why I felt that may have been a bad idea. Thus far, as I mentioned, I received email notifications from my POIs, followed by phone calls. I think others may have had the same experience--or they may have just gotten the phone call directly. I haven't received anything official yet from Yale's GSAS. Your best bet at this point, if you have a POI, would be to very politely reach out to them. Alternately, you just have to wait and see.

You should probably have emailed this rather than making a call. I moved after my applications last year, and I simply emailed departments. It didn't cause any problems. If all you wanted to do was to update your contact information, bothering a DGS over that isn't the best idea. I and a few others have received phone notifications from Yale. I do not know if all notifications have been made.
  12. The JS conference was largely tongue-in-cheek. But, it was also extremely interesting and handled with the typical Chicago rigor.
  13. Great! So that's at least 3 off this board. If there are any others, feel free to PM me! Looking forward to meeting you all.
  14. Could you expand on that last bit? I will quite likely end up moving to New Haven. Since my wife and I will both be moving, and since I keep hearing these ominous allusions to New Haven's safety concerns, I'm trying to collect as much concrete information as I can.
  15. Hey all, Received the call from Yale History of Art today, though I already knew about my admit earlier via Film Studies (I applied to the joint History of Art+Film Studies program). I'd love to meet any other Yale admits here--there were two posted on the results board so far.
  16. I'm just curious--does anyone know if Harvard has issued their yearly phone call(s)?
  17. I don't think they were congratulating their own self...
  18. OK I don't know how YesStyle got involved here, but PSA PLEASE NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THERE. They will not fit you the way they are shown. Google for more information on this. You'll thank me later. Ninja edit: yes I am embarrassingly knowledgeable about fashion and my defence is that I'm very interested in avant garde fashion (Comme des Garçons, Alexander McQueen, etc.).
  19. Hi all! I've been nominated for acceptance to the joint History of Art and Film Studies PhD program at Yale. I haven't yet received any information about visit days or anything (it was an unofficial heads up from my POI), so I don't know when I (and my wife) will be visiting. On that note--would it be any kind of faux pas to bring her along? I've heard of such things as a no-no during your first interview for a job, but I hope they won't mind me bringing my wife along to visit the place! Obviously, I don't expect her to be funded, etc. Eagerly awaiting new information, but in the meanwhile, it'd be lovely to meet others here.
  20. And now I'm ina t Rochester too. They're nominating me for a uni fellowship on top of stipend.
  21. WHAT THE FUCK I'M IN AT ROCHESTER NOW. WITH UNI FELLOWSHIP + STIPEND this is too much i'm going to drown myself in rum.
  22. So lyk...I guess I can finally join this thread. As I've posted in the freakout and the film studies threads, I was informed of my acceptance (pending Graduate School signing off on it) to Yale's joint PhD in History of Art and Film Studies. In a lot of non-academic ways, this is a wonderful thing to happen. My wife and I already reside in NYC, so the move will not be a very serious one. We're a big fan of temperate-cool weather, meaning I'd rather be in New Haven than, say, California. Her family lives in NYC too, so that's another plus. I don't yet know my funding details, but I don't believe I'd have cause for concern. I'm greatly relieved that there will be no onerous teaching duties, yet I'm aware that Yale Film emphasizes teaching experience, and makes for ample opportunities--so I don't lose either way. And finally, being in a joint program means I'll have at least some advantage years down the line when I go on the job market, as (hopefully!) I will be able to fish for jobs in two fields (which, admittedly, are drawing ever closer together). Plus, I already have met (virtually) at least one person off here who is also headed to Yale, though in a different program--would love to know of others!
  23. In at Yale, History of Art+Film Studies.
  24. I'm in at Yale. History of Art + Film Studies. This past hour has been the strangest, most discombobulating experience of my life so far. After years of browsing this forum, sharing the joys, frustrations, and heartbreaks...it's over. All those rejections, and then I get an acceptance from one of my dream choices. Thank you all.
  25. Being a victim doesn't give you any privilege any more than being black makes someone an automatic authority on racial politics. I'm not targeting you; it's just a pet peeve I have whenever I see that line of argument adopted by anyone.
