  1. does it seem safe to assume that NIU sent out all their initial acceptances, and that if you didn't hear anything its an implied rejection—or, at best, possibly a wait list?
  2. I actually had a similar question about chances of getting into an MA program. Maybe some of you could offer your thoughts... I did not study philosophy during undergrad..and my GPA was only 3.17 But, I am just finishing an MA in theology from a theological seminary: GPA 3.9 Here, I have focused on philosophical theology and have become very interested in philosophy of mind, language, and cognitive science. I applied to both PhD and MA programs; however, I have been told not to expect to get into PhD programs without a background in it. Is the same somewhat true for MA programs? ALSO: does anyone have an idea of when MA programs usually start posting decisions?
  3. Thanks! I'll definitely check out that article. I have yet to read Microcognition. With Clark I started with Being There, some articles, and recently read Supersizing the Mind. Its good to hear of others who are interested in this niche of philosophy—not that it is completely rare overall; but where I am at, I am about the only one interested in pursuing it.
  4. Interesting that you mention Nancey Murphy—I just read her Did my Neurons...? and loved what she is doing in it. I thought of mentioning her in my original post but was not sure anyone would recognize her...ironically, you weren't familiar with those who I did mention. I'll have to look up Hofstadter's work, I have heard his name but never read his work. Also, I had forgotten about Chalmers so thanks for the reminder!
  5. Just out of curiosity...What is everyones general attitude toward work in philosophy of mind as it relates to cognitive science? I am really interested in the work of Alva Noë, Evan Thompson, Alicia Juarrero, Andy Clark, etc. but have not seen them mentioned on here before.
  6. Has UC-Riverside released any rejections? If I haven't heard back either way from them and am starting to assume the rejection notice is implied. Also...does anyone know how MA programs are handling notifications? I have applied to several of them as well but have not heard anything back
  7. Hey— I am applying to UC Santa Cruz, and they have a 6,000 word limit for writing samples. I am finalizing my writing sample for the application and need to cut some sections short in order to fit within the restrictions Is it safe to assume that footnotes aren't included in word count? Or are footnotes generally included? Thanks!
