I was signed up for the Sept 27 psych GRE and a couple weeks before it I realized, "whoah, I have not studied as much as I planned" and I cancelled it. Half my programs "recommend" it but I think it's okay. None require it! I was a psych major too so my thought was my psych GPA should be good enough to prove my knowledge.
Edit: from what I've gathered, this test is often just used to compare two applicants--the test could give you an edge if you do extremely well. Other than that it is not weighed heavily.
Funny to read what I wrote in May and see how things have changed a bit! I'm now down to 10 programs. I took the SO's feedback into account (don't regret that yet lol), and certain POIs are retiring/not accepting students.
I've found that Princeton Review is an extremely tough grader on AWA compared to ETS. Although the advice above should be taken, I would recommend trying the ETS ScoreItNow for a more accurate score.
This whole process is just confusing. So when I get my scores, what if they're on the fence between what I deem acceptable and unacceptable to send? How much time do we have to decide? I don't want to waste $108 and I don't want to send scrappy scores just to save $108.
I just searched through the forums and found this thread to be helpful -- thanks to above posters. I think I will buy the ScoreItNow even though they raised the price by almost 50%. Thanks ETS...
Considering all my ETS tests have shown me the same scores, I guess I have plateaued at 159V 151Q. Test is Saturday. I know these aren't great scores.... But they're not really horrible, right?
Hmm... My thought is that a 2 year contract wouldn't really be a bad thing if the job could get you some research experience. If not, then volunteer in a research lab for a year.
Well, if you really think you're done and you can't get any further feedback on your SOPs, I see no reason to hold on to them. It would be a weight lifted for sure! But then you would be playing the extremely extended waiting game of 3-7 months.
Thanks, guys! It's October 18, so I think I have time? My professor ended up saying she supports whatever choice I'll make, lol.
I want the poster to be 4 feet x 3 feet. I think I have to change the resolution that my powerpoint slides get exported at. I'm going to order very soon. Thanks again for the $$ saving idea!!
I don't feel the need for too many more questions right now since I'm so close to the test - I've just been taking full practice exams. I have the 5lb book... Maybe I can mail it to you since I'll never get to it lol
I have a work-study that entails little to no work. 15 hours a week of doing homework and GRE studying :-)
It does sound awesome, have you done it? This was my advisor's reply (lol):
I'm not sure about printing on fabric - I've never seen that at a conference, I'm worried it might look a little too much like a flag...?
I have the paper copy of each the two new practice question books (one is verbal and one is quant). $15 each on Amazon. I went through the verbal very quickly but at least it provided never-before-seen practice questions from the makers of the test. I'm sure the quant will be useful as well!
The way I see it, since you're still an underclassmen, don't decide on Master's or PhD quite yet. Work as hard as you can, and you might be surprised come senior year. If you do research and get lots of As from here on out, you could be considered for a PhD, and you would be a very strong Master's candidate. If you're willing to apply to both, that might be the best idea.
Well, that's terrible news for me. Possible that I will land around that score for Verbal, impossible for Quant. Taking it in 12 days. I have no blunders in other areas of my applications, though...
Hi all... I have a conference coming up in October and I need to print my poster. The first and only time I printed a poster, I was a visiting scholar at a department with a much better budget, so they paid for it and printed it. My school doesn't have a poster printer, believe it or not.
Now that I'm on my own, I don't know where the best place to print would be. Where do you all go? I would especially like recommendations for affordable places, since today I printed materials for my thesis and Staples got quite a bit more of $$ out of me than I would have liked.
