  1. Yeah, I mean I truly appreciate all the insight I can get about this, but at the same time, I wasn't asking whether or not I should apply without a master's, because doing so is a decision I've already made. Most of my applications are going to psych programs and I realize I have a better chance with those. My question was moreso about which doctoral programs in public health (in addition to Columbia and Brown) are open to students without a master's, if any. I loved the UNC suggestion! I mean, my SOPHAS fee waiver is there, if I end up not using it, so be it. I wanted to give this a shot, because I have a lot of relevant research and community education experience.
  2. Wow, 350 words would be impossible for me. But, I guess in that case I would expand on research experience in my CV so that it doesn't take up space in the SOP. Still, talking about interests and fit could be tough in 350. No cutesy stuff!
  3. Thanks very much, that makes sense. If they're going to allow ScoreSelect, it doesn't seem like such a bad thing to do. The funny thing is, they asked me for the official score, and the upload of the unofficial score, AND a manual entry of the scores. Pretty redundant. Same application that makes us manually enter our transcript information! They're testing my patience
  4. When schools ask me to upload an unofficial score report, I'm a little unsure of what this is. When I'm logged into my GRE account, there is the option to get a printer friendly download of the report, but it shows my old scores which I don't want anyone to know about, and it also shows that I cancelled my subject test. How can I upload just my good scores- am I missing something?
  5. I decided to run preliminary analyses for my senior thesis last week because I had almost 90% of my data collected. Beautiful, interesting results. Today I collected the last of it, results vanished. Poof. Things that were showing up p=.03 are all now like p=.12. Really?
  6. That's sounds amazing! That first program sounds niiice, or at least the prof!
  7. Ketchup.
  8. Done with my GRE but still have all of those vocab words floating around in my head. Guess that's not such a bad thing!

  9. You should find a Magoosh study guide from their blog - it helps you ease into it, going in an order than makes sense while integrating their stuff with ETS stuff. By the way, great choices on your materials, in my opinion! Those materials are exactly what I used to study. Good luck!
  10. Reading this thread made me realize that none of the psych programs I'm applying to even break the top 25. Oops. I selected based on 2+ faculty fit, and location factored in a bit. I should go back and add a top program just to give myself the chance. Funny thing is, many top ones are in the location I need, but none of them have a match. Then there are lots of programs ranked 30-60 with amazing matches for me. TT isn't my true goal, so maybe it'll be okay. End of rambling.
  11. I'm starting to wonder if writing a SOP is impossible. I've lost count of how many revisions this thing has gone through for just one school

My strategy involves having it read by people who either A) know the process and/or B) are excellent writers. My SOP has become exponentially better with their help.

I edited my SOP until I started adding words back in that I had previously removed. I decided that was a sign to let it go haha

  12. I also have been getting confused. If a program wants an official transcript but says not to mail it, how does that make any sense? Lol well at least I saved money because I budgeted for ordering and mailing 10 of them at $5 each. Apparently scanning is preferred now.
  13. Thanks very much for the response! I suppose I didn't realize this stuff so that's all very good to know. The majority of my applications are going to psychology PhD programs, which do not expect or prefer a master's. Since my research aligns so much with public health, I figured I could apply to some of those PhDs as well. I honestly cannot afford a master's degree so it has been classified as a secondary route that I would take only if I didn't get into a doctoral program this year. Thanks again!
  14. Thanks guys!
  15. For my second time around, I took only two practice tests, both with Magoosh. Oct 31 - V154 Q154 Nov 9 - V154 Q158 Score predictor - V153-158 Q151-156 Actual test, second attempt - V158 Q153 First attempt, Oct 11 - V157 Q149
  16. Hi! I am interested in Columbia's sociomedical sciences PhD program, which (sometimes) accepts students who don't hold master's degrees. I was able to obtain a fee waiver from SOPHAS in order to apply to this program, and it turns out that the fee waiver is actually enough to cover two programs (woo!) However... I don't have a master's degree and can't find another doctoral program that I'm eligible for. I have been looking for a while so I figured maybe I missed something and I could reach out and ask. Does anyone have a recommendation?
  17. Wait... when would you guys recommend I submit my application if my deadline is Dec 1? I thought late November would be okay but now I'm worried!
  18. You've mentioned!
  19. Thanks so much! I'm actually kind of annoyed that ETS didn't make this more known. Extremely helpful since I'm retaking in a few days.
  20. I mean, it probably was one of those generic emails. But I personally think you should apply there anyway if the program seems like a good fit for you. One of the most frequent pieces of advice I've been given is not to sell yourself short. I have two friends who were rejected by a ton of PhD programs but ended up at their one acceptance which was Stanford (English for one, philosophy the other). Both of them considered not applying!
  21. Yeah, I'm the first in my family, too. I hate when people judge like that. Plus, half my SO's family thinks I'm going for psychiatry for some reason. That's what people wish I was doing, apparently!
  22. December.
  23. I find this to be really interesting - but unfortunately I have no insight for you, sorry. I am wondering, though, how were you able to view the number of questions wrong/their difficulty?
  24. I'm applying just like you are so I'm not an expert. Of course you have a shot, but getting in isn't that cut and dry so no one could tell you with certainty what will happen. It's good that you have those experiences. Clinical is competitive -- sharpen those interviewing skills!
