for the ladies that want to use a purse/tote i have been using the large sized long champ tote for years now, have it in 3 colors (black, red, and like a moss-green) it is the best thing ever, fits my large 15.6 inch laptop, charger, folder, and notebook (1-2 usually 5 star notebooks) for the day along with my other daily needs. the bag can also be washed in the washing machine!

Sending optimistic thoughts your way acetylcholine <3 the scientific grad school process is, in no other words to describe it - miserable. just stay hopeful and spread your options out - look into schools you havent even considered before. your parents may not understand what you are dealing with right now, but all of us do and that is why we are all here for you!

i think the exact opposite - i feel that people UNDERESTIMATE their gre scores. unfortunately i did not get accepted to any of the programs that I applied to, i spoke with professors and admissions at most of the programs that I applied to and the common thing i was told that held me back/want to see improved was my gre scores. advice coming from someone whose application process didnt go too well - EVERYTHING COUNTS, dont underestimate any part of your application because although you have worked hard to get where you are, there is someone with a stellar application and you will unfortunately be compared to them. i did not at all think i would be rejected from every school i applied to and neither did my advisors, but it happened, and unfortunately it may happen to you too - but apply smart, dont apply to only top 10 apply to a spectra of schools and programs, and if you dont get what you want, dont wallow in pity - take some time to let it sink in (i made sure to have some time for myself after this ordeal because honestly, it does hurt) but use it as your motivation to come back with an even stronger application. best of luck to everyone!

Finally got rejected from BU too! It is such a shame - something sloppy is happening internally in my opinion. Officially attending CUNY for my masters. Any advice/tips for increasing the strength of my application? I feel like the GREs were my weakness. This has been a very exhausting past few months, I was discouraged but I am not letting it get to me giving up on my goals. Gradcafe really helped me and made me not feel alone in this process! Congratulations to everyone accepting offers to their programs - I wish you all the best of luck! Maybe I will bump into you one day on an interview!

have yet to hear from my last school - Boston University but on a happy note I got accepted into the master's program at Queens College.

im applying to the masters programs in CUNY - affordable and good research! i was also offered an adjunct position at one of them so im beyond excited for that! - will definitely strengthen my application for a later cycle. Northwestern DGP today resent me my rejection letter, thanks Northwestern. Guess they wanted let me know their minds didnt change?

they vary - get the kaplan book and stuff you want more knowledge on use your general biology textbook that you used for intro to biology. the test is very scattered, mine was filled with plant questions which killed me - but my friend took it the next month and it was heavy in immunology. just remember that it is nothing super deep, general across the board because not everyone has taken advanced courses in all areas.

just got rejected from Einstein, generic "too large of an applicant pool" email.

I applied to PiBS in BU, and in Tufts I applied to the Molecular Microbiology/MERGE-ID. Tufts Molecular Microbiology is not doing any more interviews, if you're still holding out on that program.

anyone know what the deal is with Boston University & Albert Einstein? I've started applying to Master's programs after I received 4 rejections this week.

Spoke to Tufts Sackler last week, they were just about to have their interviews and they said give them two weeks for "more news"

Agreed ! A toast to our rejections! I am crossing my fingers for this last round. I will pray to the bacteriophages! AHAH corny jokes are settling my nerves, sorry you all need to deal with them. I am starting to look for Master's programs as well.

I know a few of the current grad students in Einstein, in various different departments and I have only heard amazing things about it. They have a quite flexible outlook on graduate studies, which is what I like about the program.

Maybe we will be in that round!

Spoke with someone from UPENN this week - said that if you haven't heard anything yet, you are probably rejected. I had a marvelous week.

I didn't mind Stanford's actually - I liked all of the "mini essays," I felt that it gave me more of an opportunity to speak more about myself and try to find a way to stand out.

Coming as someone who knows a lot of people that have applied to Einstein over the years, I have noticed that a fair-share of the ones that are accepted, choose not to attend. THERE'S HOPE FOR US.

Einstein is not too far from my Undergrad campus - I know one of my classmates just had an interview, and another has one in a few weeks. I have heard of people having interviews at Einstein in March! I don't care if I am the last person they interview, that wont matter in a few years! LOL

Hello! So since my rejections keep rolling in, I started to look into Master's programs - guess my plan b will become a reality. Does anyone have any suggestions of Master's programs to look into for Microbiology/Virology? I am open to all suggestions!

Nothing is more fun than getting rejected from the two programs you were really interested in - within 24 hours of each other. Northwestern DGP and Duke MGM. -_____-
