  1. It'a for an accepted student visit. They haven't given me a whole lot of guidance yet. I picked two sets of dates and they said fine to either and then I was given a form to fill out for reimbursements, where it was mentioned that if I am staying in a hotel, I should tell them so I can get a tax exempt form. I think I just need to call the graduate student coordinator tomorrow and talk it through. When my brother got into his masters program he stayed with other students and they even picked him up at the airport. so, I guess I was expecthing more of that vibe and was surprised that a hotel is even an option.
  2. So, if you have the option to stay in a hotel during your campus visit or to stay with a graduate student, which do you think is best? On the one hand, I would hate to be an imposition on anyone. However, I sort of assumed I would be staying with a grad student and thought that that would be a great way to get to know the program from a student's perspective. I'm torn. Thoughts?
  3. Oh no Danaofdoom. I'm sorry
  4. Its probably just some administrative tinkering... Maybe my GREs really just got input and i never noticed.
  5. So, cause I'm crazy, I logged into the Brown app site and there has been an update. It says my application completed date is today. It also says my GRE scores were received today. Weird...what do we think it means?
  6. Oh man this day has been eteeeeeernal. I kept thinking I was gonna hear something.
  7. Happy Monday! Anyone else think that this will be a big week?
  8. The results from last year seemed to be mostly email
  9. If last year is any indication, we should hear from Brown by Wednesday. I'm preparing myself for that one. They were my top choice for undergrad and rejected me. I don't know why but I just suspect history will repeat itself.
  10. As of earlier this week UPenn hadn't met yet.
  11. Aww sorry DTPowis!
  12. Strudelle that doesn't sound like false hope. That sounds like absolutely realistic hope. That's a fantastic sign!
  13. I've heard that too. I was told to get my scores to where they couldn't hurt me, specifically above 600 in each.
  14. Those are fantastic questions DTPowis. MPollywog, thank you! That is such great information to have. I've heard such wonderful things about Austin. I may message you at some point to pick your brain a little more!
  15. Hey All, Now that the first acceptances have started to come in, I'm sure a number of us will be doing campus visits. I just wanted to start this thread to see who will be visiting where and when, what we are all expecting/hoping to get out of these visits, and whatever other topics may come up. I'll start. I'll be visting UT Austin at the end of February. I'm still determining the dates. I've never been to Texas before, so I'm really interested in getting a feel for Austin itself. Of course, I'm also psyched to meet the faculty and grad students and to get a feel for the department. I'm trying to put list together of the questions I want to ask and things I want to be sure to see. Any suggestions are welcome!
  16. Hahah I like this idea. I have been rewating the West Wing for like the 3rd time. Before that I watched Alias again from start to finish
  17. Personally, my gut goes with NOWAYNOHOW's. I'd try to sit back on your heels a bit a wait it out. All of the POIs who have been in contact with me since admission season started iniated the contact. They were all people I talked to in fall and then didn't hear from between then and now. I feel like if you contact someone now just to check in it will be pretty transparent that you are antsy waiting to hear a decision and wanted to see if you can get some info. I'd wait. I do agree with NoSleep that if you have something specific to ask or have heard about funding or something of the like, pounce on it. Show your enthusiasm and get your questions in. But only if there is a good reason to.
  18. I'm sorry!!! If it helps, I got the official email a few hours later from the department and then an email from the graduate school to check the website that evening.
  19. Hey, I dunno. This POI never responded to me when I emailed back in the fall. So my only explanation is that they must have started looking at the apps in preparation for whenever they are gonna meet. But I have no idea.
  20. Just got an email from a POI at UPenn. They haven't met yet officially. However, he read my appliaction. So, they have probably been distributed to the relevant POIs for a first look.
  21. Thanks No Sleep! Did you hear from UTAustin? Did anyone else hear?
  22. I just randomly checked the UT Austin website and it says I'm admitted!!!! I don't have any funding info yet. I still have a call with the 3 POIs on thursday so, I guess that is what we will be talking about! STOKED!
  23. I'm with Strudelle. that was exactly my logic when getting dressed! (Can y'all tell that I'm working from home today and NOT focusing? haha)
  24. dtpowis. I think you should shoot for a happy medium between the too. When I had my in person interview I went with dress pants and a cardigan. So, put together but not over the top. I think academic will be fine so long as it is on the nicer end.
  25. I guess to start off: I was asked about: 1) My field experience. If I had contacts in the field already that I could use for my field work. I asked: 1) How teaching assignments for TAs were assigned. Namely, if I would be assigned to Ling Anth classes specifically or if I would be placed in Social Cultural, Archaeology, and Bio Anth classes as well.
