* I'm looking at craigslist. * I'm moving to La Jolla/San Diego - not exactly a college town. I've contacted a few places and the ones who have responded have said, "Sorry but I'm looking for someone right now." * I'm looking for a place starting in August! I went to UCSD for my alma mater and I'm familiar with the area.

I have the exact same problem … almost nobody on craigslist is looking for somebody in August yet, although I faithfully check the ads every day. I used to write to every ad with a "flexible" move-in date, but even they write back saying flexible means sometime in the next two weeks. I was told at my visit day that most housing changes hands in August, but that doesn't make it less nerve-wracking to wait.

Have either of you tried to network with other incoming grad students through your respective departments? You may be able to find a decent living situation that way.
