Congrats jpn809! I think Columbia is really turning around in terms of reputation, but it is still very expensive. If your heart is set on Yale, why not reapply next year? But -- I think -- you have to really weigh how much you want to go to Yale vs. how much you want an MFA. Yale takes so few people a year, it's quite random. You could reapply again and again and not get in, and perhaps some other really wonderful schools would be a good fit, too ... You have to go with your heart, I think. It would be hard to be paying a lot of money to be at Columbia and wondering the entire time about somewhere else. Good luck!

@owlwhale1 -- I think general questions about you, your path to playwriting, what your inspirations are ... those will probably be asked. Be prepared to talk about the play you submitted, too. As for questions for them: I would be curious how the Annie Baker/ Brendan J-J subbing in for Tina Howe will work, and what that class structure will be. I believe Arthur Kopit is the other playwriting faculty they have, who will be staying on next year.

@mcw98 -- Yes, I am a current semifinalist. I believe they will be making the next cut very soon. Sorry it didn't work out on your end. Are there any current NYU students on here? Wondering if anyone has gone through the program or knows someone who has ...
-
@theotherlily -- Juilliard is reading on a rolling basis and (as far as I know) notifying and interviewing semifinalists this month, so it's quite possible you will still hear from them. I was told that all finalists will be notified by the beginning of May. Hope that helps!

Anyone else get an official Brooklyn College rejection?
-
Tate! This is amazing news. Congratulations. So cool! And nice that you had decided on that program anyway and now can rest easy with money. Cool!
-
Hi all -- I was accepted to NYU but with no funding (at the moment, at least) so I don't think it is going to be an option for me, sadly. Onto the next!
-
Congrats annabananaphone! I have a question for you -- just sent you a PM.
-
Interesting ... I've sort of given up hope at this point but I guess you never know!
-
Hi All. Wondering if anyone has heard anything from Brooklyn College? Is it at all possible they still haven't contacted people yet? Seems unlikely but ... Tate -- thanks for the info. Is is correct that Michener, with their stipend, does not make you teach any classes?
-
Congrats nightbird and tate! So proud of everyone on here who is doing so well! Tate, do you have a sense of which you'd prefer if the funding were the same, or at least nearly the same?
-
Wow -- congrats Incognito! That's amazing!
-
Zissou, I'm so sorry to hear this.

Hi All: Just heard back from The New School -- all interviews have gone out. Feeling pretty disappointed as I had high hopes for this school and have been really impressed by the alumni they have been turning out. Sort of feeling just ... bleh.
-
I gave in and emailed The New School to see if decisions have been made. Any more news from anyone? Still waiting to hear something official from TNS, Brooklyn College, and NYU ... at least the weather is nice
-
omg -- wow, Tate! Congrats that is too, too exciting!

Great! Thanks so much for this. I don't think I can make it tonight but the event looks really cool ... love the boxing ring, love the gym setting for sure. You never know about Yale. It's not over till it's over, and you may very well be getting a call on Monday, you know? It's hard to see the interview as a victory I'm sure, especially at a program like Yale, but I really think at that stage it's more about what sort of class they want than any one individual. I think they likely could see anyone they interviewed being admitted (unless someone turns out to be completely insane) but I still have my fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted!

That's so exciting! Where is the play, Zissou -- I'd love to see it! (I am in NYC ...)
-
Yes, she is great. Though it makes me wonder why she felt the need to get another MFA right after she graduated. I wonder if Hunter wasn't a satisfying experience.
-
Oh -- Yes, Zissou. I was sort of excluding Juilliard from that statement ... they seem to really take their time. I have heard good things about Tina ... just don't know much about the program as a whole.
-
Sorry to hear that jdscar -- but yes, it is only one path. mcw98 -- i probably can email them. I guess I'll wait until the 15th or so to do so. I think at this point it's likely that all the schools have contacted people for their interviews. It doesn't seem that many admit without interviews, and The New School, for example, does a whole weekend with actors/directors/playwrights. It's hard to imagine folks haven't been contacted already for that. Brooklyn College seems like they beat to their own drum a little bit more, so perhaps they are still making decisions but really ... I can't say. Only other places I applied to are NYU (interviewed last week) and Juilliard. Zissou -- so glad you went and had a wonderful time. Sounds like anyone they interview could likely get a spot, and it's amazing to have made it this far -- and now it's about making an interesting class that doesn't overlap with the folks who are already there. Is anyone thinking about / going to apply to Hunter? I don't believe their deadline has passed yet. I wasn't going to but now am thinking about it ...

Hi Guys. I am literally going insane. Is there really no news yet from The New School or Brooklyn College? I realize it's only the beginning of March but it seems that by this time in earlier years these notifications had gone out ... Bueller ... anyone ??
-
Thanks Tate. So aside from the funding, it doesn't seem like there is any difference between 'Michener' and the regular MFA program. Is that correct? Do you have to teach/assist as part of the program? And how many productions is each student given while he/she is there?
-
Tate--What is the program size at UT? How many other playwrights are there and how big are the playwriting classes? I'd love to know a little bit more about what you thought of the school, the theater spaces, etc. Thinking about applying for next year. Also, on a sidetone, has anyone in NYC seen Placebo at Playwrights Horizons? I would love to discuss if you have. I thought it was one of the worst nights I have ever had in a theater anywhere.
