Fall 2014 applicants??
Horb replied to sugoionna's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Salvage. I'm going to rework my fit section and if I get the Fulbright, add that to my sections on why I am qualified. But I feel like everything else is good. The hardest part will be deciding to re-edit my writing sample or leave it be. I personally like it, but I also can't imagine writing something better within the next few months. -
What would make you more happy? Cananda or moving cross-country? There are many factors to consider: faculty you want to work with, financial aid options (does one give you more money?), fit, and yes, location. You'll be there for probably 5 years if not more and you should be able to be happy with the location. If all of these factors are about equal, my question would by why risk worse job prospects when it is already terrible? What draws you to each uni and does that override the cons?

Probably. Unless they don't like what they are doing there and blame UVA for it?

No matter what I do, I doubt I'll ever do well on the Subject test...guess I'll be doing that this summer. -
Especially considering their current location is California. Perhaps they graduated from UVA?

As long as you don't meant Victorian! I hate American lit (minus steinbeck, hemingway, and fitzgerald...also baldwin. He is good. Yes).

Fall 2014 applicants??

OMG. Thank you. If I reapply, I have to retake it. And yeah, generally it is in September, October, or April. I'm kinda angry that they don't list in on the GRE website. -

Does anyone know if England offers the GRE subject test in English? I was on the website and they don't list it as having a test center. -

I'm going on a grad school visit wear I've been accepted and wondering what to wear. Any suggestions? Would dark jean, boots, and a nice top be too casual? -
When if you got back a few years, it was in april for 3 years in a row, so maybe it switches every 3 years?

Do not panic! Most deadlines aren't until September for this coming year. You can still apply. What uni?

That is horrible! Well, your roomie not knowing. What would have happened if they deadline to accept passed!

The decision process is a tough one! And I know I definitely like UConn, but Duke was one of my top choices, so I'm not exactly being fair -

Mikers86, are you really debating? I mean, I just cannot imagine UConn would top Duke. Just curious what draws you to UConn, or are you just testing out your options? -

I have a UK MA question: I got into a uni abroad and am waiting on funding. It doesn't mention when to submit an answer as to whether or not I'm accepting. Would it be inappropriate to email the coordinator and ask? I just need to sort funding options out and finish up my degree! -

Kamisha, I found out one of my schools won't defer and I probably won't know the outcome until after the national deadline, so it is a bit tricky. -

So it looks like I may have to reapply next year (LONG story), but I'm trying to find programs for Victorian Studies that I could feasibly get into. I'm also wondering what overseas funding is like. For instance, if I got into Oxford, should I even go, since they generally don't incorporate teaching (at least, from what I have heard, not like the US does)? Sorry to bring it back to round 2 time. Maybe things will work out and I don't have to reapply! -

Yeah, I stay away from diet anything. Mainly because I've found it either gives you cancer (as does apparently everything these days) and the taste is just not worth the cut in calories or sugar. It never crosses into a "good for you" realm. I'm not a huge tea person -- despite my best efforts -- but I'll have to give it another go. Does anyone drink those Naked drinks? They have veggies and fruit based ones. They seem legit. -
I was wait listed at UVA a while back. I was told not expect to get in, so I'm accepting elsewhere should the deadline come.
-
I've heard some UK ones do, but idk. I think it varies (LIKE EVERYTHING WITH THIS AWESOME AWARD). I feel so weird with it. I'm not nervous, but that is because I have until April. And I feel confident my interview went well. I'm just excited to have gotten this far.

Is anyone else really hoping their POI will just happen to let it slip that they got it? Like, I'd still hold out until official letters and such, but yeah. It'd be a nice: well, in theory, sorta deal.
