I saw on the results page that someone got a call back from them that basically said we should all know something today-ish and that they are still processing. Yea it is kind of getting late in the game. One of the programs that accepted me wants to know by the 30th about whether I'm taking the GTA or not...which means am I taking the place in the program or not pretty much.
My first response was an acceptance and then came 2 rejections and I was like well...damn maybe I'm not ready for PhD. What if I just don't have what it takes yet to start that part of the journey!? I think that your feelings are pretty normal. Why did you apply to the place you applied to that has accepted you? Why have your feelings changed for it? Or have they?
When you say nearly finished...how close? How many women, gender, feminist study courses have you had along your BA and MA paths? I think that you would have to show that you have the knowledge base to keep up with the program. I wouldn't count it out necessarily especially if you have a writing sample that shows you are strong in a feminist theory foundation.
I noticed that it takes them quite a while to respond. I had some questions along the way (while filling out the app) and I felt like I had to bug them to get an answer. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
Congrats on the offer!! I agree that we have to remain positive in ourselves through this craziness!! I heard from someone recently that there are tons of factors that go into the process which have nothing to do with the student. For example, if alumni aren't producing, people aren't graduating, and on and on...
I applied to UT Austin...still haven't seen anything from them. I'm with you, this hurry up and wait game is insane but I think we are all feeling that way well except for the few that seem to be getting in to their top choices.
If you have a mentor that has connections at the school it would be a good idea to have them put feelers out for you but from what I understand it isn't a horrible idea to simply ask about decision time frames. Also check on the results page here it seems that the schools tend to respond around the same time each year.
I think that you are probably right. I was thinking 3-5 in the cohort with 5 pushing it. I was just really hopeful for UCR and U of WA. Seemed like my interests were PERFECT for UCR but eh who knows what they were looking for. Everything for a reason I suppose! Good luck to you!
