Monday is going to be rough until the email comes through...then hopefully, a celebration across the land!!!

We're both going to get this one, so we better get to work!

Seriously! I'm sort of stalling on my prospectus until I know for sure whether I'll be heading abroad this Fall. If so, I'll defend it at the end of April; otherwise, I can wait until August. Let's just be planning on (positive) results showing up a week from today...maybe if we all wish really hard together, it'll happen!

Went great! Now I just need to do my prospectus and I am ABD! That is what I love about these forums....everyone looking out for and supporting each other!!!

In the past few years, it has been the first or second Monday of April, or the second Wednesday. I'm gunning for the 7th, if not sooner. I just want to know!
-
I'm going to guess, based on previous years, that we might not hear until April 7th. 3 of the last 4 years have had Monday notifications. Guys, that's one week from today, and apparently I'm the only one freaking out here!!!

NEXT WEEK MAYBE?!?!

I have been here for almost 3 years, and I can say that the further you go from campus, the more likely you are to find something decent and affordable. I live just across the border in Mesa, right on the lightrail line, and it is pretty ideal. As a married grad student, I'm not interested in the undergrad craziness, and my apartment complex is almost entirely families and younger professionals. On the train, I can get to campus in about 20 minutes, and it is MUCH cheaper to get a transit pass than a parking permit. I think Mesa in general is cheaper than Tempe for living, so don't count it out! The area just northwest of campus has some decent places as well; I have some friends that live between Mill and Priest, University and 3rd.

I applied in August, but have now gotten my feedback. I'll consider the evil response, but I'm really focusing on other things...like my comps defense tomorrow, waiting to hear from Wenner-Gren, etc...

three were helpful; one basically called me an idiot, and my project, worthless...and the reviewer used patently offensive tone in the review. So, I'm ignoring that one and focusing on the ones that might actually help me improve! Jerk...
-
Found mine as well; thanks for the heads-up. Now, off to lick the wounds of those reviews...

Anthro is WAY behind schedule...

Don't let one rejection impact your opinion of yourself! Fulbright has its own agenda, and your awesomeness isn't defined by how well it matches that agenda! Good things will come... Believe me; I got rejected in round one...I was upset for a few days...then I got better news from another funding agency. It all works out!

Has anyone else gotten some traffic from across the US on their academia.edu pages? I'd like to think that this means my reviewers have my proposal, and are doing their research on me....what do you guys think?

Thank you! T minus 2 hours, 10 minutes!

Taking Comprehensive Exams...
Nrrrdgrrrl replied to Nrrrdgrrrl's topic in Coursework, Advising, and Exams
This gives me hope. I will re-evaluate after they are finished, but the last 8 weeks (since my exams were scheduled) have been BY FAR the absolute worst of my graduate school career. Not because I dislike studying or reading, or because my committee has been rough on me (they've been tough, but helpful), but because even at this point, I am plagued with self-doubt. I KNOW that I know everything I need to, but I am afraid I'll get in my own way. I gave the annual grad-student presentation at my department's forum in December, and was praised far and wide, over and above anything I expected. My greatest fear about exams at this point is disappointing anyone in the slightest. I know that I will pass, but a part of me is worried that I won't pass as gloriously as I fear my committee expects. I was made for academia...the ridiculous ego, coupled with the crippling anxiety...what a perfect scholarly disposition I have! Sorry for ranting and raving, but I think it is helpful to have all sides of people's experiences on here! 4 days until I start... -
So, because I'm a weirdo, here are some stats about award notification in years past: March 18, 2013: Request for revised budget from one applicant April 8, 2013/April 9, 2012/April 6, 2011/April 12, 2010: Notification (both rejections and "no need to reapply" emails) So, it looked like the first week or two of April for new information! It is interesting to note that official notification of awards comes in snail mail...but people get notified beforehand by email that they need not reapply. My comp/qual exams start Monday, so I have plenty to worry about other than W-G, but still....

Taking Comprehensive Exams...
Nrrrdgrrrl replied to Nrrrdgrrrl's topic in Coursework, Advising, and Exams
that is actually pretty good advice. My advisor is absolutely that kind of support...she's tough, but she knows me, knows my work well, and has set this up basically as a rite of passage. Then I have one member who is the furthest from what I do, but still incredibly helpful (and good friends with my advisor). And then...then I have the most difficult, challenging, push-you-to-tears-forged-in-the-pits-of-Mordor member; she's a hard-ass, but I like to think I'm a better scholar because of her... We'll see how it goes. Exactly one week from this moment...exactly. March 10, 9 am..that's when I start! -

Wow...that seems super hardcore for MA exams! Do you mind if I ask where you're at? -
My advisor, other committee members, and DGS are asking for updates on this every time I see any of them...waiting for final news is painful...and I don't imagine we'll hear anything until mid-April at the earliest...

It's a resubmission for me, as well. Their reviews are very helpful, and I think they really like to reward to continued effort. So, here's hoping!

As someone currently in a PhD program, I can tell you that Duke is rather exceptional. 14k is pretty average, and much better than some...even some you might expect to have better financial offers...
