Despejado, I'm sorry to hear that about the funding. Buttttt, hang in there, still likely you will end up with that funding. I imagine there is lots of people who turn down MA offers……I can understand your being let down. Sheesh, money gets in the way of everything. If only we could all afford education no matter what.

Dyslexic! I am in the Rochester MA applicant pool as well. I wish you the best of luck, but not so much luck you beat me out. maybe we will be future classmates! And I also applied to Georgetown MA! Did anyone else apply to Georgetown. It looks as if decisions may be coming very soon.

Tybalt, that is wonderful news!! I'm glad that it wasn't extended to every single rejected applicant. That gives me a little hope! Thank you for sharing that information. But if I was in the "final pile," then maybe I should kill a few applicants to more up a few spots.

In the vein of Kamisha's numerous posts on feel good strategies, I have one specifically geared to us rejectees: simply google English PhD job prospects. It's the only way I can make myself okay with not continuing in academia, pretending that it would be miserable if I did. For the record, that honestly means nothing to me and would die to continue on!!!

That sounds like a wonderful idea, Despejado! When I finish class today I will private message you with my email! And yeah I would consider it, because apparently it's only a year long! I could possibly swing the financials if it's only one year. And then I'd be able to apply for PhD's for next season again .

Haha nooo at least you have an extra lifeline! Much better than flat out rejection! And telling you that you are extremely competitive is an awesome sign. I'm guessing it's not a guarantee but that you have a good shot. I really hope you make it. And funded, that is what would be amazing for you! No the MA at Rochester would be unfounded, although sometimes they help with tuition (50%) if you are exceptional. It said we cannot offer you a position in the PhD, but "I have, however, been authorized to invite you to apply to the MA"....I don't know how to read that at all. "Authorized" makes me thing they liked me at least a little, but then "apply" just makes me think it's a normal email to send to rejected applicants. Lol.

Dahhhhh waiting like that is terrible isn't it??? Well they are just testing your endurance before they let you in. And noooo I did not get an MA offer, I got an offer for MA consideration. Haha. Aka do the application stress all over again. I'm hoping it means they liked me at least a little though. Kamisha assures me that I'm amazing though, so at least there's that.

Thanks Kamisha for the sympathies. At this point the rejections are not really phasing me. Lol. I mean sure, I would still die to get in! So you don't think it's a formality?? That they actually invited based on my application? I'm hoping that's the case.

Rejected from Rochester PhD but invited to apply to MA. . . Does anyone know if that's because they kind of like you, or they simply tell that to everyone??

Because if you're in a drive thru, then presumably the car behind you has ordered by the time you make it to the window. Kamisha is also prescient.

I've almost been totally shut out! One school to go! I'm actually entirely jealous of you all because I won't be able to apply next season. I have to wait until the year after. That seems like forever away.

Did anyone hear back from schools for next season yet??? I'm freakin' out!

I just wish I could rewind time and do my applications/school choices all over again! *sigh*
