Do most acceptances come in the form of an email/call from a POI/DGS? I found my first time around that normally when they told me to log-in to the website I was being rejected.
-
That seemed to be the trend in my applications, but I am not sure if it is the rule. For example, UC-Davis was due later than the rest, but it is still a very competitve institution.
-
haha I have been so humbled by this process that I almost wince when I feel any sort of unfounded optimism! Best of luck to you!

Great advice, as per usual. It is important to resist the temptation to see how many schools you can get into in order to be fair to other schools and give other applicants a shot at a spot you don't want anymore.

There have been a few posts in the past that might be helpful to you as well, regarding myself getting a similar email. This is my second time around though (MA first time PhD now). It really all depends on what that department is looking for in a particular year. How many Americanists, Europeanists, etc they are taking and how many they are able to fund. This is where decisions become based on things like who will compete better for a fellowship or small differences between applications that make one candidate better than the other. You have overcome a huge hurdle in the process, but I firmly believe it ain't over til it's over. Also, I am not sure why sharing what school it is would hurt your chances, but I respect that.

Congrats kirialax! A rejection was posted by someone from Berkeley...looks like we might be getting some results this week! Yikes!
-
Sent you a PM! Thanks for your willingness to share, and congrats!

I also had a problem with this for the "ladies" part; however, it is true that the office workers do not do work on the weekends. They rarely check email on weekends because they have all of the information accessible in the office (files and form letters saved to office computers) as well as interactions with the DGS. It is less likely that they will be doing work on weekends from home. I wouldn't be freaked out by this admit because it is singular. The time to worry more is when there is a slew of results up, like Duke today....in my opinion at least.
-
Duke seems to be reporting around the same time they were last years...if other schools stick to about the same time...we could be in for a big week next week! I agree though probably not good news for those that applied to Duke who have not heard..though everyone might not accept the offers so there is a slim chance. Looking forward to keeping up with all of your apps! keep positive (and productive if you can!)
-
Most of us haven't heard anything and won't until mid-late feb and into march so we are in the same boat!
-
No reason to assume the worst yet! Schools make offers across weeks not all in the same day! Different funding situations and professors allow for a range of times notifications are sent. It is SO early in application season...no need to feel that way!
-
This is mostly true...after thinking about it more, some admissions offices open Saturday mornings (I worked in one), and one office worker was always in. This would make sense that a few results might come through but not many...example: duke acceptances have been coming in this AM
-
Mostly weekdays I'd guess? No real basis for it...though when I applied the first time all came on weekdays

I would say becoming a historian is probably exciting enough for her!
-
Yeah, I saw her twice in the last year, and it was always more about cuts. She encouraged me to become a Latin Americanist ha!
-
I hesitated to post it, but I thought, If I were others on here, I might want to know. It doesn't mean that they won't be making other offers, but they might come later! No pacing! just try to focus on other things (trust me, I am failing at my own advice!)
-
also..there's a Berkeley admit.....
-
I had heard around 10 from the DGS there...she had also implied they were really looking for Latin Americanists due to last years yield (made many Latin american offers and not many took them). She encouraged me to contact my POI to make sure that she was taking on a student before applying.
-
Anyone want to claim the UNC admit? Wondering which POI it was since most professors seem to be taking on one student max. Sorry if this is too much to ask, I am pretty open about my results, etc.
-
Well that's a whirlwind day for sure! Awesome results though. I remember 3 rejections on Valentine's day while I was playing board games with my partner.
-
Haha sadly, I know this. This is my second time applying. Finishing up my MA and thesis work so much to keep me busy, but it's still always on my mind. Just the constantly wondering when is annoying. I wish all schools had to report on one day! Then no waiting and worrying because then you'd know when they'd come!
-
I hope those schools keep their pattern and give some news soon!!! I am starting to set rules about checking my email!
-
Haha that definitely worked! I'm starting to get super anxious too...I might have to set email checking limits!

After probably too many posts, we arrive at the original assumption that was made. Thank you for putting up with my application delirium. I can't believe it is getting to be late January already!
