  1. Introduced my students to Toulmin today by showing them this feed to discuss logical fallacies and assumptions. Maybe it was a mistake (they now can stalk me online), but my oh my it was a good time.
  2. Are you currently in Oregon? I’m trying to calculate when my rejection letter will arrive. Haha.
  3. FYI to all the ASU applicants out there, they are still deliberating on their second round of admits. I guess they’ve accepted some and rejected some, but it looks like they are doing what Purdue is doing.
  4. Is it just me or are most schools notifying earlier than usual this year? Because I’m a crazy person, I created a spreadsheet with all of the schools I applied to, their typical notification pattern (acceptances first, rejections first, etc.), around what week they’ve historically replied, the earliest they’ve ever replied, the latest they’ve ever replied, etc. 10 of my schools have reported/started reporting and all but one of them started reporting about a week before they ever have in the past. Are other people’s schools like this? I’m wondering if it’s just a new trend to notify earlier.
  5. Great map. Baylor actually has a Rhetoric concentration, as well, and has pulled in some huge names.
  6. Don’t lose faith! You never know. And you already have an acceptance, so the rest are just bonuses
  7. Congrats! By WSU do you mean Washington State University? A friend of mine applied there.
  8. That’s crazy. I admire his self confidence. Haha.
  9. Holy moly....I think we should set this dude up with the girl from the find a husband post. Can you imagine that relationship??
  10. I’m sorry Here’s to hoping you get accepted somewhere wonderful if you haven’t already.
  11. I do find it backwards in a lot of ways (though I also understand the OP’s concerns). It’s more just the presentation of everyone’s argument that’s entertaining.
  12. It’s like watching a bad movie from the 1950s. It’s actually more like a train wreck; it’s painful, but you can’t look way. And it just goes on and on.
  13. Sending positive vibes your way
  14. You can start by reading the single most entertaining (and saddening) thread to ever hit GradCafe: I see that a couple of you already discovered it. Let me tell you--you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get angry, you’ll feel your self esteem jump. Just really, trust me.
  15. /thread. Haha.
  16. I don’t read articles quickly, so I pre-read first and it makes me move a lot quicker. I mean that I read the intro, conclusion, topic sentences, and any bolded or italicized phrases, then go back and read the whole thing. It helps with reading comprehension and helps to guide your reading.
  17. I wonder if Oregon is done reporting?
  18. I didn’t apply to Virginia I was just pointing out that all of you who have been waiting in agony might be getting good news soon! I hope you get in!
  19. I spy a Virginia acceptance!
  20. I feel like less people are posting on the GradCafe Results Search page than the have in the past.
  21. FYI to Irvine applicants: “...we have not concluded our recruitment process at this time.” -Malcolm Bourne We maybe still have a shot (I had emailed a few days ago for confirmation of my rejection).
  22. Implied rejections primarily come from looking at schools historical reporting patterns (when they send out rejections, how many days they report, etc.). GradCafe goes back quite a few years, so you can pick up on the ways that schools typically notify and, as such, kind of figure out if you are in or out. That being said, Oregon broke their pattern this year; typically they notify rejections first and then acceptances. This year, they are apparently doing the opposite. EDIT: spelling error
