  1. Oops I meant Social Ethics and Religion.
  2. Any thoughts on it? Competitive to get? Is it funded? Any other thoughts about it? Thanks!
  3. For the MTS at HDS? We were just sent an email this week saying Theories and Methods is a requirement this fall. Hmmm
  4. Is ethics under philosophy or religious studies? Which program(s)?
  5. Looks like you answered the question I had in another thread here. Do you think it's just because of available spots and funding? Seems like many MA programs have only a couple spots available.
  6. Not that it matters to me much but is an MA from such a state school viewed more favorably than at a mainline div school like HDS, YDS, etc.? Edit: for a phd I mean and hiring after that
  7. ^ Yeah that's what convinced me. I put in all the costs and I end up saving money this way. Plus, I visited Boston today and realized I just don't want to deal with the commute and parking situation going into campus.
  8. I've taken all your advice into account, as well as multiple people in "real life" who told me the same, i.e. don't drive to campus. Therefore, I've settled on a different place which is right next to public transport and an easy commute. It's very pricey but I think it's worth it.
  9. I think I'll try driving and bus as back-up if it turns out to be too painful to use car. Thank you all those who replied.
  10. Thank you for your feedback. After some research I realized there is a bus I can take pretty close by. However it would still be almost forty minute commute.
  11. I'll be driving into HDS from Arlington. I understand that most students don't need a car, but I will no matter what need one to drive to my work. (I will still be working while studying at HDS.) I have heard of the option of parking illegally and just "taking the hit" from the occasional parking ticket. Realistic or not? One would think that they would be aggressive about ticketing making that unfeasible... Thank you very much for your help! I tried googling for the rates but found myself at some other less helpful sites, so I really do appreciate your help. I'm interested in the "Unreserved Surface" parking option. Although a steep rate, I could budget for it. Would you happen to know if you end up able to find a space or is that a problem due to the garage filling up and your spot being "unreserved"? Also, do you know if there is a garage near HDS? I think I'll give a call to them since I have a few more questions too, i.e. is there a deadline to apply, etc. Don't feel compelled to answer if you are too busy, as I do feel bad for asking so many questions.
  12. Do you know the cost of the parking garages at Harvard and is it a quick walk to HDS from there? Thanks!
  13. Hmmm.... 800 bucks per year may be cost effective. How hard is it to find parking at alewife station?
  14. Looks like I'm going to live in Arlington. Thinking of driving in to HDS. Bad idea?
  15. I know you've all seen lists like this before, but here is another recent one: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/05/worst-college-majors-hr-block_n_5455291.html
  16. Thank you.
  17. I had a similar deficit in my early undergrad. What I did was address it under a short answer section that said something like "anything else you would like to add or let the committee know." I did not want to waste my personal statement explaining it and being on the defensive. The personal statement, in my opinion, should show what you have to offer and therefore be something positive not negative or defensive. Just my two cents.
  18. For Harvard Housing, what upfront costs exist? I know they don't take a realtor's fee. What about first and last month's rent? When is that due? Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the replies. Stupid question but is the TAing required?
  20. I have a vague idea of why this is so, not just for religion PhDs but all PhDs in general. But can anyone clarify exactly why this is? Thanks! Edit: To clarify, why does it take 7+ years sometimes?
  21. As a non-Christian theist I find this discussion fascinating. I have only a cursory understanding of the issue but wouldn't it make a huge difference what one means by "inerrancy"?
  22. Congrats! Mind sharing what type of fellowship?
  23. That's helpful to know. Thanks!
  24. Anyone found a place yet for September? Still too early I guess?
  25. Thanks for the replies. Looks like it is much more time intensive than I thought.
