NOT EVEN ONE ACCEPTANCE YET? LETS VENT HERE!!
mheroux92 replied to Persis's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My backup plan (well, the one I have now- it's kind of changed like 4 times) is to reapply for winter admission, stay at home and work while I do this, and possibly begin taking classes for my BCBA. But who knows, this may change next week, haha. -

I can't believe they would say that...if you spent money (and have it on a credit card receipt or a check receipt) I would at least call them to show them and get your money back. I know it really stinks not to get in, but it stinks even more if you paid for it and have the receipt of proof saying they cashed it or took your money. Maybe by showing them that they can realize that they messed up and maybe will look at your application? -
The interview for GVSU included a writing portion which consisted of clinical speech-related prompts (5 of them). Some schools do more personal level and ask why you'd pick that school, or what your biggest weakness is, etc. My interview was approximately 30 minutes. The writing prompt was an hour.

Well 2/4 that I haven't heard from-they've been sending results to lots of people and I haven't heard anything. Wayne State did that and then rejected me a week later. So I am almost willing to bet those are rejections. While it is great that I'm still on a waitlist, it's still scary for me. I'm a planner and if I find out mid-July that I need to get an apartment and all that in a place I've never been will be crazy. I just want to know! -

I sure hope so too...the reality that I may not be at grad school in the fall is kind of hitting me right now. -
I basically said I'd tell him that while I am sorry he feels that way, as an SLP I cannot tell him for sure if that is the case and that I would refer him to his doctor that deals with his condition.

I feel like my interview went really well Dr. Macauley seemed to be really happy with my clinical practicum that I've had for 3 semesters. She also had a cousin that went to my (current) undergrad. The writing prompt got me at first but once I sat and thought for a minute, I think I did just fine! I cannot wait to find out from them what their decision is!

I hope the rejection thing isn't the case... I know one of my schools hasn't sent anything to anyone. Another just sent everyone's decisions and one of mine is still doing interviews. -

I'm just worried my SOP wasn't the best. I also am worried because I applied at a lot of state schools (in Michigan) and I'm from Maine so they're not my "in-state." The only program in my state is a party school (for undergrad) and I do not want that environment/city living. -

Another day and hearing nothing...gah. Well, one letter (Loyola) is in the mail but applying far from home prevents getting these things the first two days. -

I knew it was something that said it, haha. I guess I just spaced out on what it was. But hey, it won't hurt to bring that up with the school. -

For me, the beginning of this process I was worried about having to make a choice about which school I'll want but I'm sitting here now thinking that I will go wherever they will take me because I just feel like that's my position right now. I hate that people who are in other fields specifically don't understand how difficult it is in our field. -

I just hate it when people will try to tell you that you'll get in somewhere... and they have no idea how competitive this field is. My poor boyfriend has had to listen to me stress... and he got accepted at his top choice grad school for engineering with no problem at all. I just really cannot wait for this to be over. -

If you google something along the lines of "speech path grad school ASHA deadline April 15" you will find many schools posting that they adhere to the NATIONAL deadline of April 15th, but I don't see where ASHA specifically states it-but I barely had time to look for it-it's probably there still! -

The emotional breakdown hit me tonight as I got my second rejection. I've still got 5 schools to hear from (including where I just had my interview) but it's terrifying not knowing what's going to happen next. -

As a planner I think I would have to say the hardest part about this process is waiting to know where I will be living in less than 6 months. That's the thing I keep wondering. -

I had an interview yesterday (GVSU) and I think it went very well. A letter from Marshall got to my house today, so they're forwarding it to me (I'm at college in a different state and I didn't want them to know before me) and then Loyola said my decision is on its way. That's my update...that and people are saying they've been rejected from MSU via the website but I have nothing showing where they're saying they got their rejections....so who knows. -

That's a ton of money...my professor mentioned that technically, schools can not require you to have a decision until April 15th, I think , according to ASHA. But I may be not 100% right, I just know that's something floating around in my head right now.
