  1. Oops- sorry! You're right they seem to be sending out some of everything...
  2. I only see acceptances and waitlists for PhD PHS? I applied epi and have not heard anything, so assuming I'll be getting a rejection in the next few days, unfortunately. (Though not unexpectedly since I never heard about an interview)
  3. Just got an email from BU (epi) inviting me out to the interview day! February 15th.
  4. Yep- I also have a (15 minute?) panel interview... not sure what that entails, exactly...
  5. I'm meeting with 3 people- 2 of whom I listed as PIs of interest, and the third someone who I did not list but who's interests are a pretty good fit for mine. Meeting with 2 for 30 minutes and 1 for 20, and my main PI of interest (whom I previously spoke to on the phone prior to applying) is 30 minutes. So maybe you're right...
  6. Rejected from Emory Epi yesterday, but today received an acceptance email from the University of Washington! Although they state students find their own funding so a bit nervous about that... may start asking around in the next few weeks. Also received an email from the University of Minnesota saying I passed the first round, and they will attempt to match me to an advisor and funding.
  7. Congrats!!! Definitely celebrate!!! And here's to spending the rest of today and tomorrow refreshing my email continuously...
  8. BU and Yale have doctoral interview days, I am pretty sure. Harvard does Skype interviews but I think some people are accepted without an interview, some interview once, and some interview a few times so not sure how it works.
  9. Nope! Also applied to both, but no word. According to last year, it seems like people heard back from Harvard around Jan 9-10.
  10. I'm assuming it will be questions about the work I currently do/my experience, as well as what I hope to get out of a PhD so I wasn't planning on too much prep. Will likely refresh myself on the work of the professors ahead of time. Hoping these interviews are more conversation then hard interview. Anyone else?
  11. I think Epi department only (judging from the email subject)!
  12. FYI- Just heard back and got an interview with Michigan Epi! Doctoral day- Jan 24-25.
  13. Thank you for this! I figured I wouldn't hear anything back until after the New Year, but glad to hear you'd heard back relatively quickly after that...Good to know for the most part I won't left hanging until late spring etc since I will most likely need to relocate and will have to figure stuff out!
  14. Hi all! Also applying- in the midst of completing apps now! I am applying epidemiology (mostly) and schools are: Havvard TH Chan, Yale, Columbia, JHU, BU, UNC, Michigan, Tulane (Tropical Medicine), Washington, and Emory (where I got my MPH). I contacted POIs at all schools and got about a 50%ish response rate? But phone calls I was able to have were very useful in learning more about the programs, at least! Though I got mixed signals from different schools on how useful/recommended this was... I figured it at least wouldn't hurt! Getting excited about this process, though ready to face a lot of rejections Good luck everyone!

    LSHTM

Yeah, I think I've settled on Emory. While a lot of things about LHSTM were very attractive, I think that completing the program in a single year as well as limited career support were the deciding factors. I also heard that it can be hard to transfer LSHTM grades to other graduate schools were I to pursue a higher degree in the US. Ah, well... London would have been fun, though!
  16. So I was pretty much set on attending Emory (MSPH GLEPI) next year, but then I finally heard back from LSHTM and actually got in!! I wasn't expecting it, honestly, because I don't have much work experience in the area and I know that that is one thing LSHTM prefers. Now I'm not sure what to do. (I was accepted into the MSc in the Molecular Biology of Infectious Disease) On the one hand, I think I am happy with Emory. I love the program, the opportunities, and how supportive and wonderful the school seems to be. I am less excited about Atlanta, but I'm ok with it. Emory also ends up being more expensive, BUT I know I can count on federal loans and getting a job to help me out. On the other hand, LSHTM is in London! And it's an amazing school too, and would be a fantastic experience! The program sounds awesome, and is closer to what I have done in the past (molec bio). It's cheaper and only a one-year program, but at the same time I think I am correct in assuming that federal loans will not cover international tuition? And I'm not sure, with visa stuff, how part-time work would go... this is something I still need to look into. Another consideration is that I am abroad right now and have been for a year, and coming back to the US was something I was looking forward to for a while. However, working abroad and internationally is something I am ultimately very interested in... I'm currently in Samoa, so London would be a gigantic change anyway! And I've always wanted to live in London... Basically, I think Emory is maybe the safer choice here... but I don't want to always regret not taking this chance. Any advice? Also, any information from current/past LSHTM students would be awesome!
  17. I wasn't accepted to HSPH regardless, so my options were a bit different from yours, but even before hearing back from Harvard I was leaning towards Emory. I liked the way they treat their masters students, and I have heard that at Harvard it can be difficult to be a masters student because so much focus is put on doctoral candidates and more high-profile programs. I also spent my undergrad years in Boston and absolutely loved it and would have been happy to go back, but I think it is a better choice for me to spend some time in a different region and different city (I was also accepted to BU with merit so this is a decision I had to think carefully about). Emory's ties to the CDC are also quite enticing... it will be great to have a chance to work there during the year. All in all, I have liked everything I have heard about Emory, while getting slightly mixed results on Harvard (though, I mean,.. It's HARVARD).
  18. Yikes! While I was applying, I looked some current students up on the website and emailed them straight out, and they were both very nice! One asked if it would be possible to skype for him to better be able to answer my questions! So... the HSPH culture might not be warm and fuzzy, but the students themselves can still be great! However, I'm off to Emory MSPH next year!
  19. I'm trying to make a similar decision... but Emory Global Health Epi versus BU and Berkeley. I'm leaning towards Emory because of the CDC opportunities and good program, but I've never been to Atlanta or seen Emory while I know much more about BU since I did my undergrad in Boston. I'm abroad as well so no chance to visit...
  20. Deciding between BU MPH and Emory MSPH, both in Epi. Heavily leaning towards Emory, however, so I'll probably find myself in Atlanta come fall! (Still haven't heard from UCB though...)
  21. Thank you, that's what I've been thinking but it's so tempting to go back to Boston .
  22. Initially, I was waitlisted to BU and have been pretty set on attending Emory for the past week or so. However, today I heard back that I had gotten off the BU waitlist. I have been accepted to the MSPH GLEPI at Emory, and the MPH at BU. I love the Emory program, and am still leaning towards it. However, I have no ties to Atlanta and don't know much about the city, whereas I did my undergrad in Boston, love it, and have many friends there. Obviously, that's not a very good reason to choose a school, but I know BU has merits in its own right, as well. Is this a no-brainer and I should go to Emory? Or is there any case in which BU makes sense? (No money in either case, btw, so BU would be more expensive) I also applied to Berkeley and haven't heard back yet, so that could be in play, too.
  23. Heard back my email today that I was accepted to BU off the waitlist. Guess they're getting to it before the April deadline!
  24. Rejected from Harvard, as well. At least now my decision is easier!
