Yes, it will be a relieving break from the email refresh button. I love that description of siblings, it's beautiful. As the oldest of eight half-siblings (plus a couple that died a few hours after birth) I definitely feel the resonance of that sentiment. Yet though I share an indefatigable love with them, they're definitely not on the same plane as me. It'd be nice to have a sibling that could fully relate. Does Carson sell fertilizer for that or something?

I emailed Indiana and they said to look for decisions the 2nd week of March! Maybe now my Inbox will stop breathing fire.

I love hearing about who other people are reading-- so much new stuff to look into! Anne Carson's "Nox" blew me away. Translation (Comp Lit) is my other fancy, and that piece is a translatory orgasm.

I just dared to send that very question to Monica at IU! God, I hope she doesn't scratch my name off the list for shear impropriety! Do you actively read poetry? There are those whom I've encountered that actually avoid reading in general..but not me! Me, I can't resist a good ee cummings or WCW. Some might say they're over-read...

It sounds like you have the life-history for future success, success being fulfillment. Coming to what you love the long way around has bares own refined fruit. Becoming a C.W. prof while continuously working on one's own work seems IDEAL. Certainly a goal we share. Brown's program is amazing, too. I especially appreciate the freedom they seem to offer. I foolishly missed the deadline. Bureaucracy has never been my friend. Should we try to insight communication from IU's admissions contact? It would be nice to know if we had another solid month or so to wait...

Imagine if we BOTH got into Indiana?! That definitely seems like an ideal school right now. I've been accepted to a few Comp Lit programs, and it made me realize how much more I want to do Poetry.

Crikey! How they know the art of maiming!

A cricket chorus?! And here on my tundra I have only sinister snow buntings. This has been my first attempt at applying to grad school (still an undergrad senior), and I certainly took the manic, press-whatever-apply-button-comes-on-the-screen approach. Definitely have gained a few morsels of insight in this last month or so. I looked at Edinburgh, too! Seriously, I think their deadline is in March. But I'm trying to learn a lesson about throwing my application materials at anything that moves. hehe...Emerson (in Boston) gave me a free application, but it's so hard to tell if a program's good or bad just from their website. The real question is funding. I definitely agree that debt is the enemy. The UK seems kind of tight-arsed about that kind of thing..I don't know. Maybe all programs (excepting the very best) are like that. If you haven't heard from UMass yet, I might take that as good news! I was rejected from the at 12:47 am three days ago.

Good tidings! As a newly bludgeoned-by-rejection applicant, I wondered if there were others out there on the battlefield. I'm dying to hear news from Indiana, Oxford, and Columbia, and have seen a few 'results' come up with acceptances/rejections. Am I the only one with an empty Inbox? I've been accepted to a couple Creative Writing Master's programs in the UK, so far, and am seriously considering the University of Kent...it seems pretty good from where I'm standing. Where does everyone else stand?

I got an acceptance today from CUNY Binghamton for Comp Lit. I applied to the Phd and they put me in Master's. Know anything about the program or the department there?? -
From what I've gleaned it will be the 25th at the latest. If any of you get word, let us sufferers know!

For Poetry so far: Aberystwyth (accepted) University of Kent Canterbury/Paris (accepted) UMass (rejected ><) Cornell (rejected) Indiana (...) Oxford (...) Then for Comp Lit/Translation I went for: Binghamton (accepted) UMich (rejected) UMass (...) Erasmus Mundus (accepted) I should have applied to more! Though from this I've learned that my passion really lies with poetry. I love the workshop setting and crave that kind of vital community. I'm an undergrad senior right now, with great poetry professors, and I want to keep that going. Where are you in your "practice", and where are you going?!?

That's the spirit, MoJuiced! *cue Mary Tyler Moore theme* I'm trying not to set myself up for devastation upon hearing word from them, but definitely let it be known if you get in! Maybe it would rub off on me for the future.

Comp Lit thread for Fall '14

Maybe someone here knows about CUNY Binghamton's Comp Lit program??? I was accepted for the Master's program, though applied for Phd (as an undergrad senior). Heard about its reputation regarding funding, academics, vibes...? -
Those dreams are running rampant around here! I dreamed I was accepted into the CLS program...if only it were real! I read someone else dreamed they were rejected.

Fall 2014 applicants??

Hi, I was just accepted into SUNY Binghamton's Master's in Comp Lit. (applied for Phd). Does anyone know anything about this program? -
Yes, it's quite a heightened insult to be accepted with No Funding. I was just accepted to the Erasmus Mundus Master's in Cultural Narratives along those lines, which is just an extended rejection. I wish rich people would pay for themselves! MoJuiced, I applied to Indiana and UMass for poetry, too! Have you heard anything from Indiana? I can't bare waiting any longer, and yet realistically I'm sure to receive a rejection.
-
You could always start your own ceramics collective. What do you need the establishment for? Don't let the man keep you down! But on another tone, it ESPECIALLY sucks to get rejected from MFA programs. Only moments ago I was rejected from UMass' Poetry MFA, literally while I was in the midst of writing a poem....it all feels so futile!

Is anyone applying to CUNY Binghamton's Comp Lit or English Phd programs? -
Fall 2014 applicants??

Did anyone else apply for Erasmus Mundus Masters in Cultural Narratives ?? I got an acceptance this morning (ohh, the satisfaction of an email!). But with No Funding! What a dastardly pickle. -
Oh these many woes! I'm with y'all in this battlefield of pathos and ego. As an Mfa poetry/Complit applicant I find rejection from the Poetry programs especially hard (so far, Cornell). The strange thing is that I've gotten into all the European schools, but the funding is precarious if not non-existant. That's when it becomes an insult. I got an acceptance letter to the Erasmus Mundus Master's in Cultural Narratives today, but with NO funding! How does a money-less indebted student pay for More school?!? Blast! I'm still waiting to hear from five other schools... Here's hoping!

Comp Lit thread for Fall '14
pdh12 replied to peterangelo's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Now that's the spirit! For some reason it seems that I only got in to all the European schools...I've been rejected from Michigan and Cornell, so far, and it's definitely given me a taste of inferiority complex... I definitely like the idea of a "round two", coming back older and wiser, if not severely scarred... -
Yes, I'm a semi-finalist for Urdu! We should be hearing the results soon, although the semi-finalist system is a bit torturous. If I'm rejected at this point it will certainly be more disappointing.

Comp Lit thread for Fall '14

I feel like my acceptance chances are Incredibly Slim. Said feeling is enhanced by the lack of interview! I'm a final semester undergrad, from an alternative private college that I thought might help my app...but looking back my statement of purpose is SO purposeless. *Sigh* -

P.S. Were any of you contacted for interviews by UMich???
