  1. Really?? Ok! I'll email my POI and see if he specifically knows someone from there. If not, I guess I have some emails to write. Thank you .
  2. Thanks guys.... Yeah I'll try again next year, but it sucks being so close and just missing it. My POI has been really supportive and sent me a list of schools and job sites he thinks might be of interest, which was the sweetest thing. He keeps telling how competitive and qualified I was as an applicant, but the department just prefers people that have a masters. There's one department that he sent me that I actually really like and it's very similar to what I would have been doing in Florida. And the best part is that there's several people doing that kind of work, not just one. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can make a contact there. It's probably too early to get in touch with them, but maybe a miracle will happen and they're still accepting spots? Lol who am I kidding? It's late March I'm trying to be positive but goddamn this application process is draining. It wasn't nearly this bad for undergrad. Edit: Also, I appreciate the support everyone!
  3. I'm out this season. Both people that were accepted to work with my POI accepted their offers, so all of us on the waitlist were rejected. I'm really bummed....
  4. Oh definitely. I've been lurking, but nothing has changed on my end. You guys have played words with friends, right? Well I really like the nudge feature that allows you to tell your opponent "hey, not trying to rush you, but don't forget I'm waiting here." I wish I had that right now for grad school. Being waitlisted suckss.
  5. Have you asked for a deadline extension?? If you're legit interested in this school, tell them and inform them that you're waiting on other offers before making a decision and would like an extra week or two. Accepting the offer and then backing out is pretty unprofessional. Most places will allow extensions to avoid it. You may also want to let your top choice know you're situation too.
  6. Hi. I went there for undergrad and last year they didn't make most decisions until late march in biology. Just hold on!
  7. My program ranks their candidates and I was ranked 3rd, which was great. Unfortunately they only had 2 spots, so admission was offered to the 2 people ahead of me. One of those people already accepted. So if that second person declines, I'm in. I just wish they would make up their mind soon so that I can move on -__-
  8. Got rejected from school 2. I kinda knew it was going to happen when my POI stopped answering my emails lollz. I'm pretty apathetic, but I think that's because once I was waitlisted at school 1, I realized that I really really like that project and couldn't find myself as excited about school 2. Even if I got accepted at school 2 and rejected from school 1, I don't think I would've accepted it. Let's, hope for the best
  9. Grad school career is essentially banking on whether the one person ahead of me chooses a different school. So anxious!

  10. I only applied to two schools, so just waiting to hear from the last one. Have you heard from your top choice??
  11. Did you get any other acceptances? Lol! Hmmmm tempting....
  12. For anyone following my posts, my POI said one of the two people that were offered spots informally accepted. So if the second person declines, I would get the spot. I don't think I've ever hoped for someone else to get an acceptance at another school so bad before haha. I wish I knew what schools they applied to
  13. I'm hoping so too. I sent him a follow up email to ask because at the end he say's " I'm sorry I can't take you on as a student this Fall ". I'm wondering if I'm just flat out rejected or can be put on a waiting list if they have one. Only applied to two schools and this one was my best shot... Ahhhhh grad school admissions suckkkkk
  14. Yeah.... He said he told me my ranking so that I wouldn't feel bad and knew that I was a competitive applicant. But I think knowing is worse. I was so close.... I sent an email asking if I'm flat out rejected or if there's hope of someone dropping out.
  15. He just got back to me. He was only accepting two students and I ranked third. The committee thought I was an excellent candidate, but the two people ahead of me already had masters. Trying hard not to cry.... I really liked this program
  16. I totally caved. I emailed both my POIs today. The FSU one said the ranking committee is meeting today and sent them an email about the results since he's out of the country. He plans on updating me, but I'm really nervous. I can't imagine applying to schools for a third time. (Well, I can imagine it, but I still don't want to do it). Let's see what Dartmouth says...
  17. For you oil people: http://www.theonion.com/articles/lucrative-new-oil-extraction-method-involves-drill,38028/
  18. LOL so they won't mind if I creep them?? I know one of my POIs creeped me early in the Fall.
  19. Did you do any LinkedIn creeping??
  20. Uhhh anywayyyyy....... How did you guys find out how successful your school's graduates are?
  21. I don't think you have much to lose by asking. But I would also consider asking your POI. The admissions coordinator is likely to give you a reason like "There were other more qualified applicants." Your POI could potentially tell you specifically what parts of your application were lacking, if they actually respond. Some people might have other advice though
  22. Whoops! Guess I should have clarified!
  23. That Stanford rejection was brutal! I can only hope it's a troll...
  24. Honestly, ESS is a great department and UCI is a great school. Congrats for getting in! It's a very competitive program and has a fantastic reputation. A lot of their grad students go on to do great things.
