  1. I can't handle the spam emails this week!! Every time my phone buzzed with an email, I held my breath as I opened the app, only to find garbage.... It's only Monday :'(
  2. I'm gonna try and wait until the 15th before I start bugging them again. Keyword is *try*
  3. I applied to Florida State and Dartmouth
  4. Hoping for some good news!!
  5. Over here! But I'm supposed to hear back within the next two weeks. This was when I got rejections last year :\
  6. I remember when I was taking geology lab and the TA wanted us to lick rocks we found during a field trip... No thanks haha
  7. This is actually why I decided to get a cat last year. It was my last year of undergrad and I wasn't sure where I was going to be. I applied to both grad school and jobs all over the country where I would be completely by myself. I adopted Sirius so that we would always have each other no matter where we went. :3
  8. It's relatively new and tiny, but I love it. When I was looking through threads from previous years, I was very impressed with how diverse the research topics were. I hadn't heard of half that stuff before. GeoDUDE, I have no idea what you mean by geophysics and "geophysics" (sounds the same to me lol!)
  9. That's a good suggestion! Even if the distribution of applicants varies each cycle, I think it would still be helpful for those looking into advice from previous years. I guess I'll take a peek at what's going on in the chemistry forum.
  10. Haha so lonely!!! Wooo! Same here! I'm looking to go into glacial biogeochemistry
  11. I had an acceptance dream last night. In my dream, I woke up, saw the email and was so excited. I laid back in bed and closed my eyes to make sure it was real. When I opened them again, I checked my phone and couldn't find the email anymore. Then I realized that it was a dream and that I was now back in reality.
  12. Any other non-rock/geology people out there? Earth science is so broad and diverse
  13. According to what my POIs told me last time, I should hear back in the next two weeks or so. I'm dealing with the wait a lot better than I thought I would, but limbo still sucks. I started looking at jobs since as I learned last time, I can't put my life on hold waiting for grad schools in case it doesn't work out. The economy isn't as great as the news makes it out to be, so I hope everyone ends up with something for next year.
  14. Probably a hell of a lot of sighing
  15. Good luck!!
  16. Another update: The senior faculty at FSU are currently grading the applications and other faculty members will be able to pick from the ranking in 2-3 weeks. I feel like no one else is applying to my programs this year haha. Maybe that's a good sign (less competition! ) Good luck to all you UT peeps!
  17. When you give advice to someone about being patient and not emailing schools so the committees have some time to meet and talk.... then two minutes later email your POI to find out when you'll hear back >.>
  18. In case anyone else applied to Dartmouth, my POI said they will not release final decisions until early to mid March. Still waiting on what FSU says.
  19. You should give it some time. A lot of schools have a few rounds of acceptances, so don't be discouraged! If you haven't heard back in a few weeks, then I would ask someone. Good luck!
  20. I've had one dream about admissions so far. I only applied to two schools and would be elated to attend either. In my dream, I was surprisingly accepted to both schools and then had the impossible task of deciding which one to attend. I weighed the pros and cons for both schools and after a while, came to a decision. I woke up right then and was super bummed when I realized it wasn't real..... I feel like positive dreams are worse than negative in a way. Being accepted in my dream made me so depressed when I woke up and realized it wasn't real. At least with a bad dream, you wake up relieved it wasn't real.
  21. It's not really a guilty pleasure, but I've been training my cat. He now knows how to play fetch, walk on a leash without pulling, sit, and come. Stay seems to be an issue. If grad school doesn't workout, I'll just dedicate my time to making him an internet star
  22. white sheet
  23. I emailed my poi's to let them know I submitted and to thank them for all the materials and time they gave me throughout the fall
