  1. Yes, I received my digital PDF last week (along with forms) and my physical letter this week.
  2. I haven't had any replies from my future dept at the RCA either, I did get a reply from the RCA student disability office but that was in regard to another matter.
  3. It's also I'm afraid to say possible I will not be able to get a loan to cover the fees of the masters, given Brexit potentially cutting off student loan funding to EU citizens and the fact despite living in the UK for 7 years, I'm from another EU country. It was something they brought up in my interview actually but I can't see that any changes to that loan system happening within the next six months but might only effect my second year. I'm going to just have to see what happens! Cheers for the reply
  4. Thanks dmirko, I think location/environment has such a huge effect on the work we make because we can't make work inside a bubble and that extends beyond the colleges' walls for sure. Have you looked into Rotterdam? I think they're still accepting submissions if you're interested and I've known people to have positive experiences there. I also had some insider info from current students from the RCA who are worried about increasing intake numbers and lack of space and how it's affecting the students works in a negative way, with work shaped to suit the shrinking spaces. I was super excited for this masters but I want my work to evolve for the better, not just to fit within the institutions capabilities. I have hope that I will be able to make it work though, despite the challenges so I think I'll be going for it.
  5. It's not really a matter of lacking in commitment to the work, it's cost and practicality that's making me hesitate. The interviewer spoke of students commuting from Ireland as well as students having three jobs while attending. It'll be the first time I'll be going into any real debt since my previous two degrees were free thanks to the EU, that's probably why I feel a little spooked. I'm currently in London working on a project with a gallery so it's been eye opening seeing the cost of living expenses while here.
  6. Had my interview on Tuesday and got on offer yesterday, Thursday from the RCA. Suddenly feeling conflicted about whether it's a good move doing a MFA, anyone else feel worried they're making a mistake? I guess if It wasn't London and expensive to live here I felt less conflicted.
  7. RCA got back to me today, they say they want to interview me, they're just having a tricky time setting up dates right now, so I've been told to expect a interview date shortly. I'm currently in London working on a art project for the next month so it's no biggie for me.
  8. I have a non basic account on Vimeo, I pay a little so I can see my video stats and upload bigger files. I could see the links on my application were clicked on.
  9. From my vimeo stats I can see RCA watched 3 of my 5 videos none were finished which in itself shouldn't concern me since I heard they can only give 15 minutes to each application at this stage. Urgh, I have a bad feeling about this.
  10. hi Apple Ginger, sorry yes there were of course individual studio spaces but they wouldn't be the size of space I would be able to film or build a set in, whereas the RCA have a filming studio with lighting, sound booths etc, I have niche needs the two rooms are used for crits, setting up and testing work, documenting work, pretty much anything you can think of. The studio sizes were decent by London standards.
  11. I've applied for RCA moving image pathway, I wasn't too interested in a one year masters like the one in Goldsmiths and I felt like the staff at RCA were a bit more related to my interests. At the RA there were only two rooms in the building you could borrow and they were being used primarily for crits and as someone interested in rehearsal and working in sets, I realised I needed a course tailored to my needs. Since I'm from the EU the fees won't be too much, nothing like international students have to pay.
  12. This is my second time applying, I applied in 2014 last time. I can relate a teeny tiny little bit to what you're saying, although the colour of my skin is the same as the majority in art schools in the UK, my nationality isn't British and 'class' was brought up subtly and not so subtly at times, although the class thing was mostly something some of the students concerned themselves with since thankfully the staff in my art college at least seemed to mostly come from working class families. I was told by my first tutor that no artist from my country was ever successful in the visual arts so I'll find it hard to become an artist. As if somehow I was suppose to either give up or change paths? I briefly considered returning to my home country to do my masters but I realised that I frankly have it very easy compared to others who can't blend in and have face BS on a institutional level. I see from your posts that you've applied to the RA? I actually went to the open day there recently when I was considering applying and I would say the student body is pretty diverse from what I saw from who was in the studios. I liked that aspect of the tour among other things but didn't apply in the end as I felt the facilities lacking for what i hope to do in moving image.
  13. Hey, thought I'd add myself to this thread. Dipping my toe back into the potential MFA pool so I'VE applied for the moving image pathway at Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. Starting to feel the nerves a little heehee! Anyone else intending to apply to places in the UK?
  14. I don't know if the masters is increasing its acceptance rate also but if you apply, it would be a good question, if their class size is also increasing. They might be more careful maintaining the masters resources/facilities. Rent isnt so so bad in Glasgow compared to many other cities like Edinburgh and London but most people I know who live there, while studying, live with others. You could check out gumtree.co.uk or sites like it for an idea of cost.
  15. In Scotland so I have a little experience with GSA through friends and peers who attend/attended, I even went for an interview for the MFA there a couple of years ago. Didn't get accepted but it was for the best, I think I lacked confidence because basically the feedback I received was my work was well developed, independent etc but I would benefit from spending a little time outside of education for personal development. They were right because boy did I lack confidence! I've been busy developing myself since then, getting opportunities in the UK and abroad and I definitely think it was the right call on their part. I decided to consider a mfa again this year so I am applying this year to the RCA in London because I'm intrigued by the Moving Image pathway. I won't be applying again to GSA because for me I don't think its a good fit in terms of the facilities for the type of work I make. GSA has a good reputation, a big aspect of the 'Glasgow Miracle' is folks that passed through the school and it means a lot of the students are not just from the UK. I know there has been protests there in the last year. It would be worth googling that. The studio space was decent when I saw it in early 2014 but since 'The Fire INCIDENT' it might have changed? hopefully someone else can come along and clarify. Glasgow is a great city x!
  16. Pretty sure my friend who got in last year got a email. It's not common to get calls here in the UK. I got told by GSA they would send emails/letters out this week regarding the result of the interviews. Thought the fact they said emails AND letters odd but maybe uk based people will let letters in the post but they're emailing international/eu applicants. At least I hope so! No news for me yet!!
  17. Phone interviews can be good, you can have bullet points beside you and they can't visually see the nerves! I decided to start with "why I wanted to go to GSA" and I think there was a bit of bad cop/good cop going on as one said sharply "really? You're gonna start there?!". I tried to laugh it off and continue. Best of luck!
  18. I felt much the same! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who was nervous! Did you have a phone interview or was it in person? Mine was in person and they basically said when I entered the room, I could decide what to talk about, no initial question. I was not expecting that! They said two weeks, three weeks max when I was there so end of this week sounds good. Fingers crossed we both get in!!
  19. Hey I noticed you had your interview for Glasgow today, how did it go? I had mine on the 28th.
  20. There's crits, a semester elective and tutorials every few weeks. Plus you've your peers to work alongside. I'm sure you'll get a better idea when you visit and can talk to actual students, particular current Mfa students form American.
  21. Ah you applied two weeks before me, fair enough. There's probably a quota of international students and home students anyway so I'll forget to worry about it. Yeah I visited for the open day and spoke with some of the current students/staff. I live in edinburgh so going to Glasgow is easy, It's only a 45 min train ride. Glasgow is the only school I've applied to. It's the best combination of everything I want, interdisciplinary, good mix of visiting lecturers, teaching as a elective and I really admire the alumni. I did consider some places in London but I know the financial stress would crippled my practice. I prefer a balanced approach to life and after moving to Scotland four years ago it's hard to leave for good, I live it here. Plus glasgows art scene is really good and the emphasis is on the individual who wants to take part to carve their own opportunities out. London's art scene if difficult to impact on, you're one of many many down there. I know from speaking to some Americans who did the MFA in edinburgh they were surprised and in some cases very upset by how hands off tutoring is but that's just how art education is in the UK, for undergrad and postgrad. There isn't lots of classes it's mostly self directed. You probably already know all that and maybe that's what attracted you in the first place but just a heads up. Where else are you applying to?
