  1. I'm wondering how Hopkins has been ranked #1 for the last couple of years given the short history of their PhD program?
  2. Do you mind sharing which program you applied to? Hope you hear good news from other schools!
  3. Higher Ed PhD applicant here. Had my interview. Waiting to hear back!
  4. I can't seem to find it but if it's true, I'm so sad I was really excited about the program. I thought they were trimming down from 22 to 14 or something during the interview process. Let me go eat some ice cream.....
  5. How did you find out? I don't see anything on the admission posts. So all offers have been made for the Higher Ed PhD?
  6. Do you mind sharing what concentration you're applying to?
  7. Hi again I also applied to SHIPS. Honestly, I am not very hopeful but trying to stay positive!
  8. DYINNNGGG..... I've already crossed out a lot of schools in my mind since all interviews seem to have been sent out.. Waiting is a hard game!! A game I do not like to play
  9. Maybe we did! Best of luck to you as well I was just looking at the recent admission posts (story of my life these days) and someone wrote UMich posted their decision today on Wolverine. I'm not seeing anything though. In fact, I don't even know how to check the admission status on Wolverine.. Anybody see anything?
  10. Should be about 10. I had my interview last Friday and am waiting back to hear the final result. Very excited and nervous all at the same time!! Can't wait to hear back!!
  11. It seems like all invitations to interview have been sent out on the 24th (at least for the PhD programs). I'm considering myself rejected. Feeling disappointed
  12. I am a second year Teach For America corps member who applied for a PhD in high education. Are you interested in pursuing a doctorate degree in ed policy down the road? Or just a master's degree and working in the field? I'd be happy to chat if you'd like. Feel free to PM me!
  13. Oh man that means we could potentially start hearing back this week or next! So nervous but looking forward to the results, good or bad! I don't want to wait any longerrrrrr
  14. What about PhD applicants? I saw a posting on the admission results that someone got rejected last week from the PhD program. I haven't heard anything yet though. My guess is anytime from now to mid-Feb but not sure if that was the trend last year..
  15. I teach at a middle school while working on my master's degree full-time. I am also a single mom with a son in high school. In addition, I am working as a research assistant at my grad school on a research project. It is definitely incredibly challenging to juggle with so many different responsibilities but my master's program offers classes on week nights and weekends so it's possible to do it while working full-time. I will be done with my master's in May but for the last year and a half, I practically had no free time on the weekends. It is hard but it's doable.
  16. I got my masters in education while teaching at an inner city school. The school district paid close to 85% of my tuition so I didn't have to pay much. It worked out nicely though working at my school is no strolling in the park lol.
  17. Is that only for their master's program or also for the Ph.D?
  18. Thanks! I really appreciate your comments on my previous post I applied to their doctoral program in higher ed. What about you? Best of luck to you as well!
  19. Kinda late to join the party but just submitted my application this morning! The wait is going to be long but I am relieved at least I'm done with the application process. GRE Score (Revised): V 160 (84 percentile), Q 167 (94 percentile) AWA: 5.0 (93 percentile) GPA: 3.36 (undergrad in econ) 4.0 (grad in education) Work Experience: 2 years in financial industry, 2 years in urban education (secondary math teacher) in a Title I school. Teach For America alum. Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): public (undergrad), private (grad) Research Experience: co-author on a project directly related to my research interests during my master's Applying for PhD or Masters: Doctoral 2015 Program: EPPE What Other Schools Are You Applying To: Stanford, Michigan, UPenn Concerned about my mediocre verbal score and low undergrad GPA but hoping for the best!
  20. Thanks everyone! I actually went ahead and retook the test and ended up with V160 Q167 W5.5. Now time to finalize my SOP! Good luck everyone!
  21. Hi everyone, I'm applying to PhD programs for Fall 2015. I am awfully concerned about my GRE scores. My stats are 152V 167Q 5.0W. My verbal score is concerning. I'm wondering how much of an obstacle that will be in my chances of admission. I'm applying to programs in urban ed policy (low income, financial aid to higher ed) and evaluation/measurement. Other stats include econ undergrad (3.4/4.0), MS in education (4.0/4.0), secondary math teacher at a low-income inner city school (which sparked my research interests), research experience during grad school on a topic directly related to my interests. My SOP talks about my research and professional experiences and why I feel passionate about the research topic. 1 professional and 2 academic LORs. Should I be really worried about my low verbal score and retake it? Any thoughts? Thanks!
  22. Hi, I am planning to apply this fall to higher ed PhD programs. Do you think I have a shot at my dream schools and if not, what can I do to strengthen my application? Berkeley, BA, Econ 3.4/4.0 Hopkins, MSc, Urban Ed, 4.0/4.0 GRE: V156/Q163 Involved in 2 research projects (financial aid (co-author, presenting at a conference), summer program evaluation) Teach For America (secondary math) Research interests: college access, retention rate, financial aid policy, quantitative methods Dream schools: Havard, Stanford, USC, UPenn, UCLA, Berkeley I started looking at each school's faculty members to find professors whose research interests seem to fit mine, but is it helpful to reach out to them? (I plan on meeting one professor at one of the dream schools this summer to introduce myself and ask questions since I'm already making a trip to that area). Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  23. OP here, Thank you everyone for your advice. I appreciate you guys pointing out looking into other schools in addition to what I've listed above. Which higher ed programs would you recommend that offer full funding?
