  1. I didn't hear back from York regarding the 2 year MSW either, so I take it I've been rejected. A friend who started their 2 year MSW last fall at U of T said that although he was accepted at U of T, he was rejected at York. So you just never know. I'm leaning more and more toward accepting my OISE offer. This will clear up a spot on the wait list for Lakehead's HBSW so don't give up hope!
  2. Thank you! Sure, I don't mind sharing. Right now I'm finishing my fourth year of my undergrad degree in Psychology, at York. My transcript consists of a mix of B+'s and A's.. except for the C+ in stats that I don't like to talk about I should mention that I went all the way back to high school when listing work and volunteer experience on my CV.. this was suggested to me by someone who had successfully been accepted to a graduate program, and I think it definitely helped my application quite a bit. In terms of work experience, I've been part of a management team at a retail store (but highlighted the transferable skills gained from the position), as a lab facilitator at George Brown College (part of a team overseeing a mandatory course on basic computer methods, proctoring tests, and working one on one with students who need an extra bit of help), and as a technical writer for a year at a computer software company (again, transferable and communication skills!). In terms of volunteer work, I'm currently volunteering with a senior's organization as well as with the York Region District School Board. In addition, I spent about 2.5 years volunteering in the local hospital's emergency department. I've also provided volunteer tutoring students to elementary school children through the local library, as well as with a earth-friendly awareness community campaign. I'm also completing my honours thesis at the moment. I've said it on here before and I'll say it again - if there's one thing I've learned, it's that different schools really do take different things into consideration. So don't give up hope I also want to add - to all of you - that I think we should all be proud of ourselves for making it as far as we have. Regardless of what our admission statuses may be, our educational, personal, and professional backgrounds are all things to be proud of. Don't let this process get you down
  3. Congratulations to all who have heard back regarding acceptances! And best wishes to those who have yet to hear back from certain schools or are hoping for movement on the waiting list. I received my rejection letter from Laurier today, and am guessing that I'll be getting one from Windsor soon considering I didn't receive an email. I have been accepted to the HBSW at Lakehead (Orillia), OISE's M.Ed program, and Brock's M.ADS program. As I mentioned in an earlier post I'm really torn between the OISE's offer and pursuing a social work degree like I originally planned - the OISE courses just look so fantastic! I will try to decide ASAP so that those on the waiting list will hopefully get some good news
  4. To everyone who applied for the post degree BSW at Lakehead, here's an email update from Sonya. I thought I'd post it here, in case you can't access your Lakehead mail: Hi All 1 Year HBSW Applicants, I know that you are anxious to hear the admission decisions for the program. Please know that we are working on them. Here is some background information I think you should know: There are approximately 500 applications - each application had to be read by 2 separate readers - which is time consuming. Last year we had about the same amount of applications and our decisions were sent to the Admissions Office on April 17th. We are hoping to get them in earlier this year so I ask for your patience as I am receiving so many emails asking the same question. I will be sending out an email in the very near future letting you know that I have sent the decisions to the Admissions Office (hopefully by the end of the week, if I can get away from emails and phone calls). This email will be a generic email to ALL applicants explaining what to do and what to expect - I will not be sending out specific admission decisions to each of you at this time. I hope this kind of helps ease your stress somewhat and know that we are doing whatever we can to get the offers out a few weeks earlier than last year. Have a great evening all and keep an eye on this email account.
  5. I just wanted to add that I've had a ton of profs (I'm currently a psych major) who absolutely rave about how wonderful the Adler school is. It's not something I've looked into personally, but especially in my fourth year courses a lot of my instructors have spoken highly of it. As for the decision between York & U of T, really take the time to picture yourself in each of the scenarios. Which do you think is a better fit for you? Weigh your pros and cons carefully. As a current York student, I must add that York sometimes gets a bad reputation for safety, etc. but I've been here for four years and have always felt safe and part of the community. The people I've met here are wonderful as well. That said, U of T is an amazing school too. Look at the course breakdowns of each program and use that to help you decide what the 'right' choice might be. Regardless of what you decide, congratulations!!
  6. I also have not received an email from Laurier regarding the 2 year MSW. They might be being sent out in waves, or we may have not been accepted. As for Lakehead, about two weeks ago Sonya sent an email saying that decisions will be made in approximately three weeks.. so we should be hearing back in the near (ish) future. Best of luck!
  7. Thank you so much for your kind words and advice! I do think I'll go the route of waiting as long as possible, but will accept the offer & pay the deposit should I not hear anything from other schools. If I am accepted elsewhere once I pay the deposit, then I will really truly have to think about which program I'm going with. At first I was deadset on going for my MSW but this OISE program (M.Ed Developmental Psych) just looks incredible! Ah, the stress of making life decsions. Congratulations on your acceptance at York, and sending you positive thoughts and wishes that the waitlist will show some movement for you!
  8. Honestly, don't lose hope. If there's one thing I've learned throughout this entire process it is that different schools and different programs really are looking for different things. I did not receive an acceptance email from Windsor or Laurier (like others did), so I'm certain I was not admitted to those programs, and yet I've been offered a position at OISE. It's stressful, but you never know! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
  9. I'm happy to answer your questions! I know what a stressful time this is for everyone, and I think it's great we have this little community on here. No, I am not currently a U of T student (I'm at York), however someone on here taught us all a trick to sign into U of T's "ROSI" to check if we've been admitted prior to receiving our letters. Here's how I went about it: by logging into U of T's SGS (the site we applied through), there's a tab called "profile update". If you click this, on the new page the first line will be your U of T student number. Then, go to "U of T ROSI Student Web Service" site. Create a new account using your newly found student number and create a PIN (the site will walk you through it). On the very first page (the home page called SWS Home/Welcome), under the spot listing my email address, there are two tabs: Registration - Fall 2014 - HDE MED 4 and Registration - Winter 2015 - HDE MED 4 Each tab then has degree, ft or pt, year of study, etc.. So, that's what ROSI looks like for me. As I said, this showed up a few days prior to receiving my actual letter. That said, I live in the GTA (about 40min North of Toronto), so it wouldn't take long for me to get a letter from Toronto. With you being in Quebec, it makes sense that it would take a bit longer. Let me know if you have other questions! And keep us updated!
  10. Last weekend I noticed the status change on my ROSI account, and then this past Friday (the 21st), I received my offer of admission in the mail. I didn't realize the deadline was March! Perhaps they're just doing several rounds of acceptances. Don't lose hope!
  11. Hi, COGSCI! I applied to the MEd in counseling, with the MEd in Developmental Psychology as my alternate choice. I was rejected from the counseling program, and accepted into developmental. From what I've heard, the counseling stream is VERY competitive! Sending you positive thoughts
  12. Hi everyone! I need some advice. Today, I received my acceptance letter from OISE. I'm thrilled and everything, but as you can see by my signature, I've applied to many schools and I'm really hoping to get into an MSW or post degree BSW program. However, OISE is the only school I've heard back from as of yet (though I'm assuming I've been rejected from Windsor because I didn't get an email). Normally I'd wait (somewhat) patiently to hear back from other schools, but OISE has given us three weeks from the offer date (March 14) to accept - add in postage time (you have to send the reply in by mail) and I'm doubtful that I'll hear back from all the other schools before I have to send my OISE answer off. So here's my question - do any of you happen to know what the best way to tackle this situation is? Is it possible that I accept OISE's offer and then if I do get into one of the programs I'm hoping more for, could I cancel? Any info you have on what the procedure would be is greatly appreciated... Thanks all!
  13. Hi! I applied to the 2 year MSW at U of T as well, and haven't heard back - as far as I know, no one has yet, so try not to worry! For Lakehead (I applied to that program as well), on March 3rd Sonya sent out an email saying that decisions will be ready in 3 weeks. So, it's looking like it'll be early April! I know there's not too much of a difference between early and mid April, but in my opinion, we're all dying to hear back so badly that one week DOES count for something!! Best of luck!
  14. Thanks, DanielEPS - sometimes I think we all need a little reminder to have a little hope! Heartfelt & well deserved congratulations to you!
  15. DanielEPS, did you get accepted to Windsor? I didn't receive an email today so I'm thinking that probably means I've been rejected and will hear back via mail...
